Dude, it's nearly 8, polls closed around an hour ago. I'll be voting in the general regardless, but the only attractive thing to me about this primary choice was the possibility of writing in a candidate for the first time in my life, and that would have been replaceable by drawing a doodle of someone flipping off old people.
Like, all I was saying was a felt kind of bad about prioritizing the plague over a shitty throwaway vote, and now I feel less bad since the only option I might have picked just got friggin' destroyed in my state, so it's somewhat more ~whatever~

Well, in conflictingly mitigation not-bad/not-good news, apparently bernie's getting utterly fucking crushed in florida (and basically everywhere else voting tonight, for that matter). I feel less bad about not making it to the polling station out of concern this cough is something contagious

IIRC it has bipartisan support, but I would think this is one of those things they'll just "do" under emergency powers or some such. Things are moving fast these days, but I was still surprised how fast this went from idea to reality. Maybe Orange Man figures this makes him look generous and responsive and will help him get elected.

It's really not harmless, undercutting jobs that might actually meaningfully support a family just as a start. We should really not fucking incentivize corps to figure out how to wrangle paying their workers fuckall by reason of them being currently incarcerated, and that's just the tip of the iceberg so far as issues with penal labor goes. Either pay the work what it's due or fuck off, and 80 cents per hour isn't the due for goddamn anything anymore.
Also not the thread for it, though. I'm sure some prison or another will get their population infected and then probably disproportionately killed, then it'll have a good place in the crow plague thread.

Yeah, pretty much. It's also a fair amount of work and some decent upfront costs in a lot of cases, so... yeah. Side grift with maybe some benefits, probably best just done for enjoyment with anything financial considered to be a happy bonus. If you incidentally catch on and get fairly big, that can change, but it's hella' rough trying to bank on it.

Ah, I remember that feeling. Well, it was more mild disbelief because I had been behind the wheel at that point only like twice prior to the test and never had driving classes or anything more than one vaguely instructional drive that basically boiled down to "oh hey, turns out video games actually do teach you most of what you need to know to drive!"* but eh. That feeling you really shouldn't be passing a test you pass anyway is one well known to me

Y'know, something occurred to me. Something that could basically completely eliminate voting as a disease transmission vector, even the potential for transference via mail.

And for example in Poland one of major petrochemical companies switched some production lines to medical-grade sanitizers.
