Yeaaah... the work harder == (probably) get ahead thing has been pretty bullshit in the US for a... long time. Upward mobility hasn't been particularly great for a while now and backsliding is too goddamn easy. Been like that for generations, more or less.

Most of what's happening lately-ish is that folks are getting more cognizant of it/wiling to say it out loud, with a side of it actually getting worse by some metrics, too. Underemployment being fucking rampant really emphasizes the job lotto thing on top of all that. It's overall quite a mess that the younger generations are getting increasingly fed up with, especially when the older ones go out of their way to shit on everything that might mitigate it.

I've managed to dodge a fair amount of that stuff myself, but my position's fairly precarious anyway and I seriously, seriously fucking empathize with folks that didn't manage their evasion check.

The only MtG game you need is the one by Microprose from 20 years ago.  I'm surprised that they haven't made another game of that style since.

We need some kind of open world game where combat is resolved through card games.
There's a couple out there, actually. Don't even ask me what they're called, but there's more in that rough style around nowadays. Some fairly recent, iirc.

... any case, I think I tried arena at some point. Not very long, though. For some reason the whole hearthstone aesthetic thing is like deeply repulsive to me and is about the fastest way to get me to uninstall a game in existence. I literally don't know exactly why but it's a gigantic negative for me. Kinda' unfortunate when I do quite like card game style games.

Too much effort, more like, when other means are technically viable. Their official updates on the matter and shite have been emphasizing "there's other shit to use that work more easily with mobile crap and we don't want to spend money on updating anymore kthxbai" more than anything about security.

Slay the Spire was like the last place I think I was expecting to see a Kill Six Billion Demons shoutout. Newest character has a card called "Reach Heaven", which on top of a bit of damage shuffles the card "Through Violence" into your draw pile.

Cat quest seems fairly aggressively alright. Kinda' a kid's ARPG or somethin', could pretty easily be a fairly high class mobile game. Definitely wouldn't call it bad, but it's not something I'd normally consider spending money on. The Immortal thing's probably the crunchier of the (non-borderlands) action-y games in that bundle. Playstyle's pretty reminiscent of several of the isometric ARPGs we've been seeing lately-ish, the Transistor or whatever line of things. Haven't played it much but it also seems more or less okay. Kinda' difficult, too, at least to me.

I mean, now the question is, can they one-up John "Khorne-Has-The-Right-Idea" Bolton?

Sooo... EU just appointed an irish fellow as their chief trade negotiator, apparently. That's gotta' be 'fun' news for certain folks in the UK.

Does it also do the Darkest Dungeon/Nethack BS with "you must have memorized this much wiki to succeed"?
From what I've seen so far, not really, and I have pretty low tolerance for nethack level wiki shenanigans. There's some stuff where foreknowledge can mitigate some (mostly energy, from what I've encountered) wastage, but it's not been super major from what I've played up to now. Nix the energy mess and it's even less of a concern.

... also wow, the arena mode for DSD is pretty goddamn brutal. Combat gauntlet, not even sure if you get to heal but if you do the first chance is like eight to ten fights in and the fights by and large do not screw around. It's pretty impressively mean. Techie going heavy shield recovery (or something equivalent) seems near vital.

If you're still alive enough to pray you're not chugging the bleach hard enough. I don't believe you.

OB's from the '00s, though :P

Though the older ones generally didn't play around like the ring thing, much. Part of that was just because they were making the tropes to eventually be fiddled with, but still. Its dickery tended to come from poor directions or whatev' than more explicit screw-yous.

... speaking of those, an early-ish warning sign from OB is a minor fetch quest you catch wind of super early and get access to shortly thereafter. The short of it is some dude gets you to bring them this tricked out sword (few hundred gold for a base weapon cost, then studded with the spell components you murder out of passing wildlife), and your reward is... basically the cheapest healing item in the game. Costs like a tenth or less what you trade for it. Dude was super enthusiastic about the thing and it supposedly tastes delicious, though! Game's honestly fairly legit so far, heh.

Well played, Oriental Blue, well played. Normal game expectations, you fight sleep inducing enemy, steal special accessory off them called Sleep Ring, obviously it's a status resist accessory, right? Slip that baby on and enjoy your status immunity.

Oriental Blue's like, haha, actually unremovable cursed ring that inflicts sleep on the wearer. And not as, like, randomly or something. Straight up your ass is unconscious from turn 1 of a fight. Also you can't get it off and acquired it decently deep in a place full of enemies that hit pretty hard. Have fun with that~ and by fun i mean load your savestate and give the designers a nod of respect

I've played Deep Sky Derelicts, and I have to say, the energy thing isn't really a big issue. It's really more a thing that exists to keep you from just running all over the place, and you can still explore an entire derelict if you're willing to take multiple trips (actually, it will most likely take multiple trips to clear an derelict anyway).
Yeah, I'm actually playing it now, and it.... well, like you say. It doesn't actually stop you from exploring a derelict, it just makes you go back, and you'll probably do that a time or two just because something tears you up.

... which is frankly irritating, just like I had worried about when I first heard about it. They could scrap the energy mechanic (or tie it strictly to to in-combat boosts/enviro thing usage, or whatever), and all that would be "lost" is intermittent interruption of game play/exploration to go fix your food clock energy supply. Game seems to flow much better with it just dealt with (i.e. locked at 1k so it stops being a concern), so... that's what I'm doing. Nice game so far, with the food clock equivalent turned off.

It's a common design in places with limited space. Also helps save on plumbing. Only need one feed and one drain rather than a seperate one for each.

I'm not saying it's the best idea, but it's used fairly widely, and been done so for quite a while.
Literally where, though? I've never seen it, or heard of it used outside of what's popped up lately, and would suspect only people without means to protest would stomach it (for a given value of stomaching rooted in a complete inability to fight back).
