No, no, it's like matrix five or six. There was the animated one, and then the video game! Plus the rest.

Sorta' seems like it. That said, I wouldn't read to much either way into that. For the last while we've been increasingly finding that worker conditions in general in the gaming industry are pretty consistently and seriously shit. Serious exploitation or abuse of workers is apparently kinda' fucking common.

Okay, so it was Goodman that did the disgustingly good pure instrumental remix/arrangement of Prima's Sing Sing Sing. Probably one of the most iconic pieces of old swing instrumental work I'm aware of, and also stupidly, stupidly good music. Now I know.

... well, drenching everybody and apparently running a fucktrain directly over parts of the bahamas.

It officially hit cat four about fifty minutes ago.

Will it, though? Aren't they pretty enthusiastic about hammering copyright issues?

Imagine how happy their lawyers might be to get to take a swing at the american government. Protected copyright even against the POTUS is a pretty hefty feather in the cap!

It depends a lot on what it does, yeah. My biggest worry is it plowing through the state (or possibly worse, not, and proceeding to the next step at full power), getting into the gulf, and then coming back around for Round 2, Fuck All Of You Boogaloo.

Also yes, the one-store thing was a joke.

...also everything about those shelters linked are mildly fucking terrifying. All my eyes can see is that one with the kid shut up, with the flood waters quietly covering it :-\ A fairly small artificial hill seriously wouldn't cut it in some of the worse flood zones around here. Neither would up-stairs or attic, assuming either meaningfully existed.

I mean, should, sure. Do? Different question, that. So's able, remembers to, so on, so forth :-\

There's also going to be a lot of people who's going through things for the first time for whatever reason (visiting, first time under own finances, etc.), or trying to restock, or whatever. Iirc the logistics of how things play out with hurricanes (days warning, etc.) vs tornados (more localized, less warning, so on) leads rightly or wrongly to different prep profiles. Want to say the difference in geography plays into that; there's basically fucking no basements in florida, ferex, and if there were they'd basically be borderline suicide to shelter in (and questionable to store emergency stuff in) due to flooding issues. Having a storm kit is a good idea, storing it can be a different question.

Though the profile for a hurricane kit differs a bit. More food and water, mostly -- partially due to being further south, partially due to hurricanes tending to level much wider swaths of land. Can take longer for relief to reach you, more or less. If I'm not misremembering it, local news stuff is suggesting a gallon of water per person per day for a solid week or so though that's for more than just drinking.

E: It's also good to remember that florida has a pretty hefty population. Even if a relatively small fraction is lacking one thing or another, them flexing all at once in the face of an incoming storm can cause all sorts of logistics problems. Everyone in a tornado alley state might be able to fit in one grocery store but that don't work in these swamplands.

No, no, I don't think there was a period between rotary and letters-on-pad. Not worth mention, anyway.

In any case, whether there was or not is fairly irrelevant. That using letters as your phone number thing is bullshit and has been bullshit since day one. If someone's having to use a cipher to figure out what the hell to dial you done borked up. It is, indeed, not intuitive, never has been, and won't be until the day the letters are bigger than the numbers on the phone.

*scratches head* There's probably a fair few that haven't, in fact, dealt with a cat 4 dropping on top of their head, though. Which is where intensity forecasts on landfall are going.

There haven't been many of those over my (or my grandparents', for that matter) lifetime to hit florida, and I'll speak from experience a cat 1-2 coming to visit is more than a wee bit different from a cat 4-5 deciding to shit on you from on high. The former can be fun, the latter sends parts of your neighbors houses to say hello.

If your area is in the direct impact zone and it hits you in the upper reaches of cat 4, it's actually pretty damn likely you come out the day after to the scene of it looking like the apocalypse just happened. Like, they are probably panicking a bit much, but...

4661
As long as it stays out of the gulf things will probably be, uh. Less bad. Gulf's like hurricane pcp or some shit.

E: Nevermind, looks a lot like it's going to get in the gulf. If that even matters if it plows into the state as a cat 4+. Fuckshit we are not ready for this to happen again :-\

4662
The contentious part is the one where you're being a smug prick
If it's coming across like that, it's not intentional. Smugness ain't what that mess is causing me to feel, it's something between disbelief and muted horror. S'like watching a train wreck knowing the shrapnel is going to hit you along with everyone immediately involved :-\

4663
I'm saying there are plenty of better ways to do so than saying "wow you're all screwed and we're actually better than you."
"You're making some of our shit look less bad" doesn't actually translate into "and we're actually better than you", but okay.

You are screwed, though. Not really any getting out of that, at this point. Even if you go least-damaging and revoke A50, the resulting domestic political shitshow will be a mess and a half. Everything else has worse economic repercussions (for more or less everyone, UK probably most of all) and a similar polis kerfuffle. So, y'know. Screwed. It's been a while since the UK had a way out of this that didn't leave them pretty fucked.

Basically telling parliament to go home for most of the time y'all have left until one of the most major deadlines the UK's faced in my lifetime isn't exactly going to help, though :P

4664
You're pretty definitely screwed, your government is apparently falling over itself to do clownshoes stupid shit, and its nonsense is actually making some of the US gov't's nonsense look less terrible in comparison, yes. Unless you're actually bojo or a physical incarnation of the collective incompetence of the UK's government, that hopefully doesn't include you, personally. You're just collateral damage, just like most of the UK's population is looking to end up like.

4665
Every time I look at what's going on with the UK for the last few years, I come out of it with the impression, 'Wow, y'all are fucked." Every time. Clownshoe shit makes some of what's going on stateside look better in comparison, and holy hell is that a bar to pass.
