Did somebody pretend to be the author to steal the book?
Nah, it was actually the author that checked it out. They just apparently didn't get around to returning it.

I spent most of my day getting repeated scam calls, to the point where I activated the blanket DO NOT DISTURB option on my phone. I don't know what the hell was going on - I kept blocking numbers but kept getting identical calls from different numbers, and choosing to block all unknown numbers did absolutely nothing.
Welcome to my life. You're in the fuckers-that-prey-on-the-elderly zone. All I really know is these scumfuck bastards have some way or another around call blocking.

If I had a genie's wish the lot of them would be maimed to the point they can't use phones ever again.

It's not necessarily Qi and the immortality bit is fairly conditional, but yeah, more or less. Think MMORPG scaling mechanics as a core plot point without necessarily having an explicit system... with more or less exactly what that means vis a vis the MC (and others) level of power. Gather power units, level up, gather more power units. Cultivate your whatever until you can break mountains and kill gods. Probably commit genocide at some point or another, or at least murder lots of people and steal their stuff.

I read more than is probably healthy (because holy shit the main characters tend to be some variety of scum), mostly because they're one of the few bits of fiction where people fairly regularly bludgeon each other with parts of the landscape. If you ever see me mention punch magic or fooxia, it's probably a reference to this stuff.

I'm like 80% sure there's multiple "reincarnated/transported into wonderland" stories out there, really. Can't recall if I've seen one done raw isekai style, but...

By that logic nearly every cultivation novel is a multiple-iteration isekai, which sounds remarkably fitting in terms of quality connotations.
Lots of cultivation novels are definitely isekai, yeah, inasmuch as the term can be applied generally to begin with. I wouldn't say nearly every one, but plenty are.

... that said, the general morass of cultivation novels largely share general quality level with isekai even when there's not fairly explicit overlap otherwise. If I've noticed a broad brush difference between the two, it's that, perhaps terrifyingly, isekai tends to have more ethical main characters doing less heinous things less regularly.

I'unno about biggest, but you probably wouldn't see argument from much of anyone that's been paying attention that he's not at least somewhere in the top ten, maybe even top three or so.

Coworker fiddling with overdue stuff today. Noticed one of our long overdue books... was checked out by the book's author and never checked back in.

I don't necessarily disagree, but building hellavators/containment ditches are enough of a repetitive time consuming pain the arse without making it aesthetically pleasing. It and multi-mod housing* are two of the things I blame no one for just... not... dealing with.

* When you have like twenty or thirty NPCs and don't want to go without chunks of them, you can either build housing or play the game. Not so much both. There's a mod that auto-gens minimalist housing based on number of potential residents and it is a godsend.

Uh, yeah, HP is explicitly not isekai. The concept/genre is based on someone getting transported to another world/dimension (the word itself more or less literally means 'different world'), usually (though not always) with no way back and without much in the way of consent or warning. Hidden societies and whatnot just don't fall under its umbrella. Hollow earth stuff would probably be close-ish, but generally if it's on the same planet (or you used common infrastructure to get to another one) it just doesn't count.

If you were looking for more western or classic examples that could slot into the concept, well... the wiki page on the subject has some good ones. The Wizard of Oz probably counts, ferex :P

The supporty bits of a terrarium can be other materials. No, what that means is you have to backwall the entire jungle with glass if you're going to use some other materials for the boundary markers.

... or be a bit more sane and just do a bit off the side for aesthetic effect. Incidentally, I'm not sure how easy editing a mod is, but if it's not too bad and works in MP there's totally instant hellavator items in mods. One I use regularly has grey brick, torches, and rope, but if you could change that to living mahogany and glass (and probably vine rope! And those shrine torches, probably.) it'd be an incredible time saver.

alternatively, just take tedit to the map at some point to make the containment parts :V

... I do recall excavating a desert in one bay 12 MP game. Turned it into a greenhouse, iirc. Then something about a jungle house and stealing someone's nothing. Still got a screenshot of that last one somewhere or another. Stole their nothing and left a sign, too.

check the wiki page? Can't be arsed to parse it fully. Mostly seem to be piggybacking off someone else's system, and maybe doing some of the funding via better tier services you buy into. F2P cell phone service :P

Deeply disappointed that wasn't some kind of flight of the bumblebee remix :-\

Speaking of which, not a remix, but still pretty neat. If probably more for the visual aspect than the (admittedly decently played) musical part. Outside of the flight of the bumblebee being pretty good stuff in general.

Oh, so light novels are actual books text-only books? I thought they were just the manga equivalent of kiosk literature.
Light novels are basically novellas. Probably about the same size as, like, old school pulp fiction stuff. They're generally aimed at younger adults/older teens, but like manga can vary on that front. There's a lot of crossover/interbleed with web novels/web serials, too. Quality wise it's generally stuff easier to get into and whatnot than proper length books, so, yeah, you see a lot of amateurish work.

Personally, I've seen a lot of pretty neat stuff and interesting ideas (plus they're like the only goddamn thing that will touch my apparently fetishistic appreciation of video game UI in writing. Phallic objects out for blue boxes in the middle of your paragraphs, yo'. Metaphorically, I mean.), but the general quality even for the relatively good stuff is... it's pretty shit. Intermittently appealing shit that grows on you like some kind of dung mold, but still pretty shit.

I see further evidence the monkey is going to end up fighting (possibly as some kind of multi-monkey death squad), and care about nothing else. Here's hoping they make it to the finals! Go alien monkey critters, I'm rooting for you. Tear someone's face off for me :3

Ok, so who here's going to go to an anti-war protest?
If my grandparents are dead by then, and I'm not physically crippled, and it's in reaching distance, and odds are good going wouldn't ultimately result in me be homeless or dead... maybe. Probably just vote for whoever's pushing hardest against it at the time, so long as they're not running as GOP, honestly. Voting and a bit of (mostly internet) discussion is about all I can manage, most days.

Iirc he was actually an odd sort of pre-cog rather than a time splitter or anything like that. Think that was sussed out by the end of all of it, but it's been a good while since I actually read worm instead of worm fanfics. Regardless, you're probably better off not thinking too hard about the mechanics of planet eating trans-dimensional space whale granted superpowers.
