Yeah, it's mostly because they functionally have the self-control of a particularly stoned wombat. The problem with normalizing vulgarity around kids in some situations is they haven't quite had enough time and experience to suss out they shouldn't expand that to all situations and then they're swearing a blue streak at the traffic officer and that speeding ticket or whatever suddenly isn't sliding with just a warning.

So you avoid cursing around them so they don't think cursing around other people (or at the absolute least around adults) is a casually done thing. It's inculcating communicative survival instincts through (lack of) exposure.

... man, reading through what's been translated of the Made in Abyss manga. Like. It could do without playing prepubescent or nearly so sexuality for jokes. And maybe the occasional dip into guroland. But the bits outside like ten year old nudity/bondage/shotaboners (why that last one actually ends up being a semi-important plot point bloody hell) and organ puree are pretty incredible.

Looking back at parts of the thread that mention it and seeing it called kid friendly blows my mind, though. The anime must be majorly fucking different than the manga.

Seriously though this shit has me pretty conflicted but reading anyway. Sorta' reminds me of Franken Fran on that front, now that I think about it. Swear to the gods, though, if the ruler they broke off up the shotabot's ass ends up being a late story plot point I quit then and there. Chekhov's Pegging is my limit. Also yeah I really do kinda' wish that wasn't an accurate description of something mentioned in the story BUT IT WAS!

Aye, DoW 1 is darn solid. There's also some pretty expansive mods tooling around nowadays, if mostly for dark crusade or soulstorm.

DoW 2's honestly pretty alright, too, it's just quite different in terms of execution and scale and whatnot. Closer to a squad based ARPG or somethin'.

DoW 3... we don't talk about 3 >_>

So, when he says the system failed him, it's because he was already at a university-education level at age nine but they failed to provide any sort of suitable plan for him to get into higher education without sitting through a shitload of pointless classes and such.
Huh, definitely some sympathy there. Didn't have the drive or was that far ahead, but I was starting in on high school level mathematics around 4th grade, ran into a teacher that wouldn't let me substitute the higher level work for their math class, and ended up basically saying fuckit to math in general for like the next decade or more. Wasn't a chance in hell I would have managed both workloads and it's a hell of a lot easier to just underperform instead.

Didn't really catch back up to my younger years in terms of general proficiency and comfort until around college, heh. Probably will never mess with much of anything besides accounting level algebra type stuff.

I... sure. I could use another reason to actually cobble together a new computer. Cheers for running the giveaway, meph!

Plus there would most likely always be decent populations of them in places that aren't farms - I'm pretty sure that's the case for most such species already.
Far as I can recall there are populations, but decent isn't how they're generally described... and it's only going to get worse going forward. Also could swear I remember them tending to be pretty fragile populations vis a vis disease or environmental disruption or whatev'. Farm animals generally aren't exactly the most competitive anymore, heh, barring the occasional one that's an invasive species (and introducing those en-masse makes you a colossal biosphere wrecking dickwad, by the by).

You could probably stop animal farming outright, conceptually, but you'd see the populations involved shrink drastically (with the varying consequences involved with probably scattershot introducing that many corpses to wherever they end up, 'coz gods know we don't have the patience to ramp things down over decades/centuries) if they managed to survive at all. If for whatever reason you give a shit about the critters' wellbeing, it's largely one of those damned either way situations.

I mean. Most of them? They're omnivores by dint of predating on something, so long as they're not strict carrion eaters I guess.

They just aren't very many apex predator ones tooling around that I can recall.

Now, if you're talking primarily predatory, I don't think there's many of those (or at least non-insectivore ones? Maybe fish eaters, too.). Most of the point of being an omnivore is being able to eat whatever can't get away from you at the moment, and the stuff that fits that category tends to be plant life of some sort or another so the diet tends to be supplemented by meat rather than dominated by it, current environment allowing.

There is nothing inherently ethical or unethical about the consumption of meat.
...You're saying there's nothing inherently unethical about enslaving an entire friggin' species for use as food products? ???
Eh. If you're going that route eating anything period is also massively unethical. Murdering and eating random members of a species isn't exactly what you'd call some great improvement.

N'that's not getting into the whole issue with non-animals being species, too. You're not going to manage ethical consumption if you're expanding your ethical consideration much beyond humans, if that. There's still plenty of reason to oppose many of our farming (and general animal treatment, really) practices, but the only way you're going to avoid being the bad guy extraterrestrials is suicide.

That would unfortunately be true pretty much regardless of what we were, physiology wise. Plants probably come closest but even they're pretty messed up if you stop to think much about how they go about propagating and surviving, and what it entails for stuff around them. Just generally slower.

The bandages are because he keeps cutting himself, right?
She*, iirc, but maybe. Sadly, a shiv deck doesn't have quite the same feel. Mostly because upgraded daggers in FH are brutal on an individual level, whereas StS shivs are... less so. At least without multiple Aims played or somethin', anyway. Still can be pretty fun so long as you don't end up drawing the time jackass as your final boss.

That is a remarkably unilluminating trailer for a deeply dubious concept. The reactions on twitter seem to kinda' sum things up otherwise...

E: For those unwilling to follow a link with no description or whatev'. That's a link to an announcement for a live action Cowboy Bebop. It's basically fifteen seconds of nothing.

Huh. I get free homegrown eggs from a guy I know. They're probably way better than anything you could buy.
I'unno. I've had home grown/free range eggs from several different sources, and about the only difference in terms of taste/food stuff I've noticed is the store bought ones tend to provide more egg per egg. Taste is pretty much identical. Add on that someone else washes the chickenshit off for you and, well...

Started out wanting to build a dagger deck. Real simple idea, get lots of dagger cards and the dagger fate thing, that makes it so playing a dagger draws another card. So I proceeded through the game getting basically all the daggers and blowing all the monies on upgrading daggers.

Five floors in, I'm full up on fate slots and the dagger fate never showed up.

Alright, I says to myself. Screw you anyway. Plan Hobo Knife Fight is still a go.

And so I kept getting daggers and blowing money on upgrading daggers.

One (final) floor later and I've shanked the everything with my excessive amount of daggers, ruining the final boss in about three turns, taking no damage whatsoever from it. Welp.

I think a society that could rely on hunting to feed itself would be great for both hunters and animals. I just don't that that with current numbers it's feasible.
Unless by rely you mean supplement, it's not terribly feasible with human populations way, waaaay smaller than our current one. Our species has been an extinction event or near to it for other species since before we started brutally enviro-fucking the planet, never mind after, and that when we seemed to be primarily dieting on not!meat.

Humans doing much hunting, particularly relying on it, is a BAD END level scenario for most everything else, heh. Something that was vaguely sustainable would be less hunting than large scale free range farming, probably.

Didn't it get itself locked some way or another?

E: Yes, yes it did. Back in march.

So apparently Manafort's back in the news? Seems to have decided, for some massively goddamn stupid reason, to lie to investigators or whatev' and consequently violate his plea deal.

Congrats on doing the exact wrong thing again, MF.
