... I mean, far as I can recall it's just a ratio thing. One over, five under, 1:5 odds. You can do the dots horizontal. Something like that, anyway.

Double post, but heyo. Duke energy's confirmed one of their dams have breached. Coal ash "may" be flowing into cape fear river! That should be not very fun at all.

Nah, we're much more set than most other critters for the near future. Lots of population loss and massive QoL reduction is more on the table but actual extinction much less so. We're both fairly hardy, massively populated over more or less all the geographic regions, and able and pretty willing to drive everything else to extinction first, if it means keeping ourselves going that little bit longer.

Humans will probably be one of the last non-insect/bacteria lifeforms to go in an extinction event that's larger than we are.

E: Also yeah, rats would work. Kinda' feels like they're too noble a beast to appropriate, though...

... what, though? That pair describes most of the non-microscopic animal kingdom that's not human, at this point.

Hmm...  another suggestion would be Hunter x Hunter.

On a similar note, the manga series is back from yet another vacation.
Man, I wanted to, but I remember the clown and his amazing gay pedophile text box. Even if it was one of the great usages of text box placements in illustrated literature, I didn't want to try rolling with that for public library babby's first manga section.

... mind you, I'm not 100% on what I did roll with on that sort of front, and may have cut Jitsu wa down to two volumes instead of cutting it entirely after remembering the sneezing stripper, but... whatever. Maybe after a while, once people are used to it existing and we're sure no crazy bible nut is going to try to burn the library down over manga half as risqué as half the shite in the YA section.

That feeling when you reach into your pocket and ask yourself, "Why does this feel like I stole somebody's pen?"

i hadn't, but there was one more pen in there than i usually carry, thus the confusion

Lost in medium translation, maybe? It's been a while since I caught up on overlord, but in the write-y bits there was suggestion things in that direction was on the table pretty early on and consistently, if not heavily emphasized, iirc.

at least we ended up in the cool dystopic future.
Man, I wish.  Where's my cyber arm.
Last I checked we more or less have them. They're just still kinda' shitty complete drek. SotA prototype prosthetics stuff, but there.

I'd probably be putting more hope into hoping that wherever they die from drinking deathwater at, it's not somewhere their corpses will further contaminate the water :-\

Huh. Looks like some of the coal ash piles have, indeed, flooded. Fuck NC groundwater for however long, I guess. Also pigshit ponds have overflowed, there's like over a million missing chickens probably rotting in the water as we speak, etc., etc. Don't drink the water, yikes.

I’m noticing a distinct lack of full metal alchemist. Do they already have it or is banned for the same reason Harry Potter was?
We don't specifically have it, but a related library does and I'd sorta' rather lean towards newer stuff, heh.

This is great, definitely helped. Cheers!

For the rest, Yona I was eyeballing, fruits basket is somewhere in the system already, and I'll see about checking some of those short stories. Got some suggestions from folks I'm working with to work in (might end up going max 4 volumes per series or somethin', ha), but this stuff's darn useful both for the immediate concern and hopefully later. Thanks, folks.

So I'm being consulted to expand a public library's manga section, focusing on older teen/young adult content. Haven't been told the exact spending goal, yet, but it's probably decently hefty and they get a good discount on top of it. Selection for the ordering service being used seems surprisingly solid, too. But, uh. I could stand some extra opinions, especially outside my exposure zones (good shojo or sports manga, ferex, where I wouldn't even know where to begin).

Content wise, I'm trying to avoid going too heavy on violence and trying to be pretty conservative vis a vis sexy stuff; rural conservative area, intended to be foisted on the youngins, so stuff that makes parents flip too hard is questionable. I'll spoiler my initial selection below; mostly I'm intending to get the first seven or eight volumes (if available) and seeing what circulates or if the rest gets explicitly requested -- our current manga section is both fairly anemic and monofocused, so it's hard to tell what'll get a bite.

... anyway, recommendations would be great.

Would EU meme culture just... straight up cease to exist?
EU meme culture wouldn't budge, since it would be protected under parody clauses regardless of any other changes, apparently.

I'd hold off on that, though. It wouldn't be the first, or even the fiftieth, time a GOP blighter talked one thing and then quietly shut up when it came time for actual follow through.

A single letter referencing stuff from decades back isn't exactly hard to suss out reasons to sit on for, though. Particularly considering the writer initially wanted anonymity, and the general circumstances we're aware of. Even basic verification would take time, especially if you were trying to protect the victim's identity.

... it is kinda' interesting how stung, so to speak, the GOP have been reacting, though. Makes you wonder what they were expecting to come up regarding kav.
