... in the process of machine translating a pokemon mod for a fairly niche indie game (Legend Creatures, the mod's the most subscribed one on the steam workshop, heh), I've discovered that bulbapedia is, like... incredibly thorough? Doing an edit check to make the pokemon abilities match official english terminology, I'm finding some swarm of dedicated people have dutifully included the chinese names of every single move, ability, and so on, in the entire series. You can plug in the name of a move in basically any language that pokemon's been officially released in and search will cheerfully pull up whatever the thing is in english.

It's incredibly helpful at this juncture and I wish I had noticed before starting the initial edit pass instead of after I'd spent hours puzzling over google's output to match stuff with officially localized terms, but mostly it's just kinda' good-weird folks have actually been that careful about adding information to the wiki. It had to involve several thousand pages worth of edits and additions, which is a hell of a lot of effort for such a relatively small addition to a primarily english language wiki.

Oh hey, sounds like they're cribbing notes from the US in regards to one of the major things to do to minority communities (pave over as much as you can and split them up with highways). Even odds that has little to nothing to actually do with improving access for cars and everything to do with fucking over minorities. Gods know that was the primary motivation over here :-\

It's a known sentiment in certain subcultures in the west, too, for what it's worth? That's not the first time I've heard that gay sex doesn't count if it's rape,* just the first time I've seen it mentioned specifically in reference to russia. It comes up in the worst parts of male dominated spaces (or, more generally, cultures which encourage rape or dubious consent on some level... which is unfortunately most of them :-\) with something approaching regularity.

... actually referring to the behavior as based and traditional is something new, though. I don't think I've ever encountered any group of any sort that holds that kind of behavior being common as somehow a desirable state of society.

* I could swear I've actually seen some kind of psychology studies that even sorta' support the sentiment, if you squint real hard. Rape often isn't an act that has much or anything to do with sexual or romantic attraction, so it's possible to not be gay in one sense (being attracted to men) while still raping men. It's... somewhat horseshit from a practical or general usage perspective, but still.

Dream brain just decided to wake me up from nap by presenting within the dream, the "Infinitely Complex Hyperzebra". As might be deduced from the name, it's a self-propagating/expanding >3d (initially) hypercube shaped zebra. My head kinda' hurts just trying to remember what it looks like, but it shortly ended up sorta' like a ball of yarn made of zebra parts.

Relevant observers on the time of the appearance of the hyperzebra reacted with shock, then abject terror, as its impossible evershifting form became steadily more complex and began to grow -- the implication immediately obvious to all in the dreamspace was that this impossible thing was the end of all things, as it would eventually expand in complexity until all realities could no longer maintain existence under its metaphysical and literal weight.

... anyway, it came to be because someone had a sort of low-level magic transforming tool thing. The original owner was just using to do simple stuff like rope, but then they gave it to someone else and things took a turn for impossible geometries. Pray we never actually manage to observe the terrible majesty of the infinitely complex hyperzebra.

Nah, not even a little. It wasn't along the side of the road, it was right in the middle of it (and everywhere else; like said, it meandered all across the interstate). Kinda' like the line a garbage truck can leave behind it if it's leaking, just... not liquid. Looked similar to that, even, except again, going over it with your tires made a sound similar to a bloody belt sander. If it wasn't an intentional thing, it was road damage of some sort.

621
It... could be? Didn't look like it, though, it wobbled all over the street and for more than just one or two miles. Also wasn't a large strip... looked like maybe as wide as a dollar bill, something like that. If I had to guess, it'd be that something or another dragged along the pavement for a long ways, or something along those lines.

... but it could be intentional, sure. Whoever decided to do it should be beat about the head and shoulders with a bundle of sticks, because the sound it's causing is pretty bloody horrible.

622
Road on the interstate on the way home had some kind of... strip of damaged/different/clearly-out-of-place-material that made the wheels on the car make some kind of hellish grinding noise, kinda' like someone was taking a friggin' belt sander to the car or somethin'.

Scared the hell out of me for the bit of time it took to figure out that it wasn't, in fact, my car coming apart underneath me, just shoddy infrastructure making a racket.

I mean, I've ate stuff like that before, too, yeah. Monocheese is boring as hell, though, if you're making the god sandwich of cheese mountain you gotta' have a bunch of different kinds of cheese in there. Different preps, too, get shredded cheese in there, those little cheese cubes, drizzle cheese sauce over it, etc. The attempt is appreciated but the execution, disappointing.

Took down difficulty 4/first one with a final battle for the first time. For how low-budget-seeming this one is, as bullet heavens go the game goes pretty damn hard. Ended up killing roughly 480 thousand enemies by the end of day 10.

And hey, at least one periodical has some integrity.
Sorta restores my faith in the Free Media.
... I mean, that's AP? They're basically the major news source most other reporting venues in the US crib their notes from. It's not "one periodical", it's more or less the primary journalism organization in the US. They've got their issues, but they're not exactly a small name.

Not with that attitude! Idle check suggests it's at least theoretically possible to jailbreak most consoles DD's on and do you thing from there.

As I say, the UK regulator has already said no. If that isn’t overturned or reviewed, the merger can’t happen.
Is it actually a "can't happen" or more a "well, they can't operate in the UK" thing? Because I could see them going "lol, who gives a damn about the UK market" at this point, heh. If you got the US and EU markets you can probably pretty safely tell the UK to get stuffed.

... anyway, if it does go through I don't expect it to make either of them worse, and might even make actiblizz somewhat less terrible to its workforce, but I wouldn't have high expectations. "Not worse" does not necessarily entail "better", ha.

Might move to threads aswell, depending on how retarded their politics on user data are.
Last I noticed, the data they ask for access to looks like a checklist and is currently the reason they weren't/aren't planning on operating in the EU out the gate -- they're not capable or willing to meet EU standards on privacy. Worse than facebook, basically, which was already more or less industry leader in wiping its ass with your personal data, heh.

Starting to wonder if this cat has issues with object permanence or something. Like, earlier was more understandable, but she's nearly a year old and still basically incapable of recognizing the dog after a grooming trip, despite having experienced the process several times at this point.

On one hand it's kinda' funny to see her bow up and be terrified of something she was trying to play with a few hours earlier, but on the other hand this period where I have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't try to kill each other when the dog acts normally and the cat has no idea what the hell this thing is that's getting close to her and attacks is getting kinda' annoying.

Dunno if it's the reduced hair, bath, or smell of other dogs/cats at the groomer or what, but the cat is just... completely incapable of recognizing the dog after he's been shaved down.

It was hilarious how both Biden and Trump are exactly the same regarding their shitbag sons.  They're not alone: George H.W. Bush had several sons as well...
They really aren't, though? Biden's kept pretty distant from hunter's nonsense (and it's mostly just been hunter, for that matter), at least as far as I've noticed, while trump... hasn't been, with his kids. They've been pretty close to the exact opposite of exactly the same regarding their shitbag sons, heh.
