Dementia, if I haven't already forgot what it's for. Pretty basic cognitive functions degenerating or going haywire, generally.

I know it can be like slurred speech, but I meant Trump's specific style of verbosity. And that's a good point regarding the test in your personal experience.
Nah, not so much slurred speech (though it definitely can be an indicator of something or another), but specific ways of presenting ideas, patterns in how you construct sentences, etc. If you're doing stuff like tripping over or contradicting stuff you said yesterday (or a few hours ago, or whatever), that can pretty easily be a sign of something not working right.

And ninja'd a bit, heh. I was trying to talk more about stuff like what that doc did, though. In person (or whatever), short term test vs anything more systematic.

You definitely can based on speaking patterns, though it's generally a fairly off the cuff thing rather than a particularly careful diagnosis, far as I'm aware.
They're actually really easy to pass. It's not designed as an IQ test, it's just designed to detect dementia. If you couldn't get a perfect score, it would probably be something to worry about. My 85-year-old grandfather can. :P
Yeah... grandfather (who's a bit older than yours) had a quick one done along those lines -- probably not that specific one, but something similar -- fairly recently and got a "no problems we can see" results. Meanwhile he's regularly remembering things that didn't happen, sometimes not really capable of comprehending things like, "We can't help you here," and every once in a while has fairly major emotion control issues that weren't there five or ten years ago. Amongst other things.

... basically the tests don't seem to be very good at much beyond exactly what they were designed to do. Not a terribly reassuring thing, especially if you're dealing with a patient that has irregular symptoms rather than a persistent problem. If they're going neurologically haywire every few days instead of exactly when they're taking the test, or under conditions that aren't being replicated, well...

Aren't conservatives generally for net neutrality? Pretty sure it's something that had generally broad bipartisan support.
It does have broad support, but, as is fairly common, there is a difference between conservatives and their representatives.

... 4 might be interesting. I actually was hashing out some things with a net/phone provider a day or two ago, and their automated call system started off with a blurb declaring the company was dedicated to net neutrality standards. It's on folks' minds enough to be filtering into mostly-rural floridian utility companies, so...

Read the article, still no idea what was their idea.

I know a few things about the Bible, what could make they think that stuff was okay?
Old testament, parts of the new that can excuse physical harm if it leads to spiritual whatever, various supplementary works that go all over the bloody place, stuff considered personal revelation (also called bugnut insanity, often enough), the myriad problems that pop up with sufficiently insular groups, etc., etc., etc. The list is as long as that of people that have used and abused the texts in order to abuse others, which is to say very, very long.

Exactly what it was if it was strongly christian/biblically influenced is questionable, but religious works get twisted into flayed manskin pretzels pretty easily if someone involved wants to make with the fleshsnacks. That's probably more literal than anyone should be comfortable with in the rare case, too...

Actually, funny story about this kind of stuff. My parents (reluctantly) voted Trump. Most of my family about that age or older seem to have, actually. A lot of it was because of stories like this; these are such trivial stories intended to smear Trump further that all it does is desensitize them to the actual major problems when they get covered in the news, because they just see it as more of the same.
For what it's worth, that doesn't really track all that well. We've had the same shit for more or less every president since news went 24/7 entertainment at a minimum, and it was fairly rampant with obama in particular. Yet you didn't seem to hear much about a similar effect. It was around, but not quite so... invoked. Part of that's due to previous presidents not being quite so much of a clusterfuck even on a purely personal level, but still.

Beyond that, primary or directly consumed news isn't the only part of the media influence going on. It's not just a matter of what news they watch, but also what news they read or listen to on radio, as applicable, and what the people they interact with are influenced by. And it's fairly common for older folks in particular, even if the specific one in question isn't sucking on the right-wing media's teat, to be around/in communication with peers that are fairly embroiled in that cesspool.

... basically, it's probably either/more post-facto justification attempts (or whatever you want to call scrambling for excuses for a particular act) or secondary/non-TV sources causing the claimed outlook, rather than it actually being much of an issue.

Settings->security->backup, apparently. Then you'd presumably find the backup file(s) and put it on a flash or something. Quick google for backing up win 10 will get you more details. I've still basically not used anything past vista, ha.

Oh hey. You got the black screen thing? Mouse cursor still there but basically sod all worked? If so, that's actually what I'm in the process of fixing.

... though fixing in this case is backing up the important stuff and then doing a clean reinstall. Computer's been an elderly's internet browsing machine, which means it wasn't doing all that well :V

For once it's probably a misstatement. It was 52 whatever the planes were that got offloaded, and particularly at that age that sort of verbal slip up isn't the most uncommon thing in the world.

... eh? Why'd you have to restart? Been well over a decade since I looked at ccleaner, but unless something has gone hilariously wrong*, you can use task manager (or an equivalent) to run explorer again.**

Explorer going kaput doesn't tend to stop other programs from running, too, so for stuff like that you can usually chill until whatever it is finishes, then do what you need to get going again.

* I'm actually dealing with a hilariously wrong right now, ha. Making backups onto a flash drive via recovery disk command line is somewhat annoying :V

** Which is particularly good if you're on a really shitty rig and need that extra little bit of memory or CPU power or whatev'. Been a while since I've had strong need of it, but there was a good few years I tended to just kill explorer until I actually had use for it.

It's okay, you're probably doing better than the current administration is. It's a new year, anyone can join in on the speculation and even have good odds of figuring out better courses of action! Mostly because they're making pretty hella' shit ones, but hey :V

That said. The current administration being itself, assuming the move has roughly sod all to do with geopolitics might be a good idea. Is pissing off turkey, or whoever, something that will resonate with the solid base of GOP voters? What about send the actors involved into the arms of one group or another that's been shitting out the bribes (putin would more or less count, here, mind you)? If yes, or of a similar nature, you've probably figured out what the people making the decision is actually considering to be of import.

Thinking these chucklefucks are thinking much about stuff like what turkey may or may not do could pretty easily be giving them too much credit, basically.

Though I don't know how enjoyable it would be to eat there nowadays... back then I was only vegetarian, and there were plenty of potato salads and meat-free pasta dishes to choose from. Now it would probably be a nightmare, haha.
I'm pretty sure golden corral's buffet lineup has been largely unchanged since... basically ever. It's rare joints like that in the US have much of a shakeup in offerings, outside a few things that rotate throughout the week and maybe a couple others that are seasonal or somethin'. Basically, anything you ate once you'd probably be able to eat again, even if it's been like a decade. Or two. Or more. Place more or less has the same friggin' bread rolls they did in the 90s, last I ate at one. Which has been a few years cause I kinda' hate eating buffet, but eh.

Most country buffet type things tend to have plenty of non-meat options, though. Most buffet type things in general, stateside. Hell, usually there's more variation there than there is with meat, both due to customer inclination and cost. Folks like their meat but most like their sides pretty heavily, too, and the restaurant would really love it if you ate less of the generally (much) more expensive meat.

Your biggest conceptual problem as a vegetarian would probably be stuff cooked with meat. Greens cooked with ham or bacon for flavor more than to be ate, that sort of thing. McDonald's fries kinda' stuff.

I find it hard to believe it was accidental. A button like that would be THE thing that every employee is told about to NEVER push unless nescessary.
I think it's more likely a case of either disgruntled employee, or some idiot that thought it'd be funny, or made a bet with friends.
Eh... official-ish line I've seen is that someone (maybe newish?) autofired their way through a yes/no prompt. That thing a lot of folks that catch the occasional virus or malware do where they click buttons on autopilot during an installation, basically. Seems like they've already changed it to need two-stage authorization, for what that's worth, or whatever the hell the word is where it needs more than one person. Gods know if the rapid implementation is going to cause bugs in the near future.

It apparently was part of a fairly common drill, but so far as pretty much friggin' anyone (outside maybe the joint that triggered the alert) was concerned, no one knew it was for a good chunk of an hour. Y'know, 'nuff time for a bit of the state to get glassed.

... that said, this incident did just tell the world it would probably be real fucking easy right now to launch a decapitation strike on the US. POTUS, on yet another tax funded golfing trip, was apparently either not informed or didn't give a fuck one of our states (and one of the ones most likely to actually eat a hit, at that) triggered an incoming probably-nuke warning. While hawaii was re-experiencing the cold war, 45 was golfing.

There's the morbid side where folks are relieved he wasn't involved and there to do something unfortunate, but it at least says we have goddamn serious procedural problems in the top levels of the gov't at the mo'.

No, when you say

Fuck the other tribe

You're definitely railing against people because of who they are not because of what they've done.
Not... really? It's real hard to be republican without doing something (registering as one if absolutely nothing else). Pretty literally impossible to avoid it, to be part of the chunk materially/electorally supporting the shit that's pissing RK off. You can refer to that as who, I guess, but it's an identity primarily/entirely defined by actions. The who, in this case, is what you do.

Meanwhile it largely doesn't sodding matter what obama does. It's notably not what he does that catches flak (or at least large chunks of it), but rather who/what he is.

There's a fairly different sort of categorization going on, basically. Even if you can use the same words. Part of that is probably because you're talking group vs. individual, but you could pretty easily change obama to "democrat black president" (to the extent that could be considered a group when we've only had the one) and get the same sort of reaction. Generic individual republican (or the party in general, really) that stopped supporting reactionary radicals with a penchant for rotting out our country's infrastructure and administration (i.e. the GOP and functionally just about all its politicians) is prolly gon' get a pretty different response.

You have two things that get different sorts of responses when they do the same sort of stuff, be it a specific individual or otherwise. Y'ain't dealing with the same sort of thing when that's happening, y'know? Maybe they're similar things, but they're very much not literally exactly the same.
