Sweet hell I've built magic storage's crafting access. The sentiment may have already been expressed in the thread, but this is goddamn glorious, of the "I don't entirely know if I'll be able to play this game without it" variety.

Image for a moment if, instead of dicking around with the guide and wikis and fifty thousand chests with god knows what who knows where and a dozen crafting stations you could, instead. Shove all your shit in a single, search/filter/sort enabled, box, jam crafting stations into another box, and then that second box will tell you exactly what you can build with those stations and all your shit. Said all things, again, search/filter/sort enabled.

Quality of goddamn life just spiked having done this, is what I'm saying. One of the more time consuming and clumsy parts of terraria, bloody close to just straight up fixed. Friggin' great. Would heavily recommend anyone still playing this game to stop hating yourself and get the ruddy magic storage mod.

dont forget that you have to catch a golden butterfly for the final staff.
Yeaaah, if that doesn't get lucky early enough I'm probably going to drop a zerg pot on the NPC apartments during daytime. Enough residents there and they mostly squelch hostile generation, which means you get 30x critter production interspersed with the occasional slime. If you need gold critters and you're real tired of being patient, that's the way to do it.

... also the mods I've further stacked on top of everything has at least one double rate accessory. Going to be reeeeaaaal interesting to find out if that's additive or multiplicative, ehehehe.

And hey, weird one tile hole in the ground ultimately going about a fifth of the way down the map led to a sword grotto thing. Arkhalis get!

E: Huh. Not sure I've seen this before. Total ocean chests (y'know, the water ones along the ocean floors) in this world: 0. None got generated.

E2: Alright then dye man. My character has now taken on their true calling: Shiny Hypnosis Themed Supervillain. Shame it looks kinda' ass without the moving bits. Blue acid on an archaeologist's hat, red cape, and slime mount, reflective copper on my armor, leggings, and the glowing shroom shell I've got on my back that makes me look like a knockoff doctor octopus. This is serendipity.

Please stop killing the butterflies I need to make a better one of you, butterfly staff. I get that you don't expect a 5 hp component piece to be flapping around in a caverns level granite zone or whatev', but I need those to hire your replacement make you a prettier stick.*

In other news, but I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread that magic storage is kinda' amazing. I'd just like to report that, yes, while the material constraints involved can be annoying (gib diamond gib silver stop screwing with me game), it is indeed kinda' amazing. Put the pieces together and get a searchable/filterable/sortable list of whatever you shove into the system? Yes, yes thank you. Go to hell chest pile clogging up my everything.

* Though yes, I know you can cancel summons buffs to get rid of summons. Sometimes you don't scramble quick enough :-\

I dunno, lads. It might be time for a change of identity.
Contrary to some of what's been said on this, I'd probably recommend keeping a separate identity for the sort of public dispersal you're talking about. It's decent practice pretty much always when dealing with the internet and anything even remotely approaching the possibility of having professional impact (which inviting fellow workers for a round of whatever definitely has, if small). You're never entirely sure what part of a lengthy history is going to shotgun you in the crotch for a prospective or current employer, and most sorts of those kinds of interactions, direct management or inter-organizational or whatever, can be complicated by that sort of thing.

Basically, you can keep naxza but having a yourname39 equivalent (and yes, something along those lines is recommended for a more professionally connected profile, sadly enough) for interactions with folks you're less comfortable with/could eventually bite you in the ass is fairly high up there on the "good ideas in personal personnel management" list. Maybe whoever it is wouldn't give a casual search for your current one, but maybe they would, too, or someone potentially impactful towards your life could be looking into them and run into your junk by association.

If you don't have real good reason otherwise, why take the risk when not is not much beyond a new email address, and a little bit of message control to keep each set separate, in terms of effort to substantially mitigate it?

Not off the top of my head, but if it's worth anything explosives makes marble harvesting go much faster :P

Assuming you can find them, anyway. Kinda' feels like one or more of the mods tweaked world generation on that front, though. Seem to see more granite and marble biomes than I want to with those ones running, heh, at least on medium and small.

Any case might actually consider using some kind of placeholder (processed snow of one sort or another if you're after a mostly white block? Think the traveler occasionally sells white team blocks or something, too.) until the giga drill or rocket 3s or something are available. Then it's faster-than-drill-unit scoot going down.

Alternatively, martian plating. Always martian plating. Martian plating accentuated with pirate dropped gold junk, bordered with celestial blocks and interspersed with spike pillars. Go for a lovely little invasion chic dealio, mod invasion style events bits and bobs and seasonal stuff optional.

Kill EoC. Meander for a bit doing little. Decide to open pandora's box (a 20 gold item claimed to be able to do just about anything) because ?.

...

Receive wyvern. Oh dear.

...

Kill wyvern after long, long string of mostly single digit damage pings (occasionally 11 damage or a crit in the twenties!), receive souls of flight. Well then. Thank you, based thorium icy arrows. I'm glad I remembered that if you whang a wyvern in the head with a slowing attack it basically stops moving for as long as you can keep it applied.

Bit of a scare at first, though. Didn't think to change arrows, was goomba stomping it to dodge, accidentally fell into a fairly deep digging tunnel. Got out of the thing with one hit worth of health left and potions on cooldown, ehehe.

hmmm according to the wiki Clatterbone has the same defensive stats as Danger. so i dont need that
the travelling merchant also appeared with a lot of stock. cement mixer, dps meter,  dynasty materials and even a Code 1. so i jumped further in DPS. should be enough for the EoW fight.
Wish the guy'd hurry up on my end, heh. Wouldn't mind making the next layer of the ziggurat apartments out of their stuff.

E: goddamnit game

very next day traveling merchant shows up

has no building materials for sale

nothing placeable except a chalice

wish i could goomba stomp this jerk right now

Oh nice. This... grealm, checking (what mod is this is a godsend, heh), thing has a dowsing rod. That points to the nearest plain, living, or water chest in a 200 tile radius. It's, uh. It's nice.

Trying to get the mask from the slime king. First dozen or so attempts, nothing, so I decide to dump the 53 gold and see exactly how many "several" is in this overcharger thing's description.

... it turns out the answer is ten. Ten slime kings, ah ha ha.

Oddly enough, I think it might have been an easier fight than a single one. I'm at barely gold tier in terms of weapons (and not even that for armor), so I've mostly been using the mount to goomba stomp my way to victory, raining arrows and debuffs from above. Turns out when the floor is king slime it's notably easier to stay in the air. Who woulda' thought? Though I did end up bombing part of my next door plains to get rid of the remnant carpet of those spiky slimes. Probably should have thought through the lingering aoe concern to a larger degree than noticing I had a few bombs in my inventory part way through the fight :V

E: oh sod off

flush with victory I head into the partially constructed inverted ziggurat that is my NPC apartments

walk through the front door

"You feel an evil presence watching you..."

Yeah, I still won't eat there because of it. Probably better for my health, anyway.
Depends on what you're replacing it with, heh. For better or worse, they're probably one of the healthier fast food chains. Which is admittedly a bit like saying the cooler sort of molten slag metal, but... still.

And yeah, since the crap however long ago it was I've been avoiding the place, too. Not exactly a major thing considering about the only fast food anything I've gotten with anything approaching regularity for the last few years ("approaching" still being maybe twice in a month on the high end) has been (cheesecake) milkshakes, and I just didn't go unless I was driving and about to fall over for a long while before that, but I always did like their waffle fries thing.

Chicken's alright as fast food joints go, too.

We just need some duct tape and post-its...
... that sounds a fair bit like whoever did the wiring thought they were meant to "do" it more in a fornicative sense than functional. Totally explains the one that does nothing, even, as that would be the one that finally shocked sense into them by way of electric groin infusion.

Can only guess hope it was DIY rather than someone actually hired, heh.

I'd probably recommend double checking about that desert fishing, heh. Pretty sure it's the fishing 2.0 mod I'm running, but the mess I'm running actually has desert stuff you can fish up. Might be something new you can pull out the water.

Hrm. Well, crash giving thoroughly unhelpful error message mixed with some UI issues (of the "wait a tick, where the buggery did half my inventory go" sort, among other things) with the RPG one I was checking out, and I'm re-enabling calamity (on top of the rest, so I'm at trio-thorium+like-eight-other-mods, assuming it doesn't crash while reloading) because because. Also one of the other RPG ones I grabbed to peek at.

K one (never bothered to actually pay attention to the name, but it's the only K name I can recall) was nice so far outside the interface problems, if fairly low key on the actual stat gain side of things (less so surrounding mechanics, heh), but those interface problems were a thorough pain in the arse. No autopause unless you want little things like the shop interface to disappear, intermittent problems with the extra inventory pages that looked to have caused the disappearing inventory trick, some other stuff including incompatibility with magic storage which I really want to check out. It's fairly well done design wise and mostly works, but mostly doesn't cut it very well when it takes like 10 minutes or more to load all this mess, heh.

... or not, since mod loader seems to have updated and calamity and spirit are noping out during initialization. Grumble grumble. Also the mod browser self-update in-game thing is itself crashing, so... fix later. Generate new world now.

Huh. I'm not sure which mod is doing this, but I'm definitely liking it. Started the game with what looks to be three random spell glyphs, which could be stuck into one of four three slot skulls to make a complete spell. Between my starters I had a thing that would spit out four rotating boulders (megaman leaf shield style) with good knockback, multiple hits, wall piercing, and the chance to cause confusion on hit. Expensive-ish for the early game and the damage is pretty sketchy, but very solid utility.

By the time just before noticing it's a quarter to one in the morning, however, I've found something that replaced the plain jane direct straight line firing pattern... with a bat winged eyeball that acts like a summons, doesn't seem to go away, and independently casts the spell with no cost beyond the initial summoning. It's, um. Pretty neat, particularly in combination with the birb staff (which summons a quite ruddy aggressive bird animal, the little white ones) that fell out of a tree. Makes me feel like I made a terrible mistake going gunslinger on a whim with some kind of upgradable starting artifact/class accessory, heh.

Ach, wish me luck. I've disabled thorium and calamity, left spirit on (because biome conflicts are fun, let's break the generation code in half), and turned on, like. Eight or ten new mods. Think only two or three were major content mods, but... still. Going to be interesting to see if it explodes and/or if my computer crawls into a corner and cries instead of running the game.

E: it hasn't crashed yet, but I have learned a lesson: Maybe don't try to run the recipe browser mod when you're adding in probably several hundred new items :P

E2: Welp, there it went. Crashed as the recipe thing was nearly finished loading, ha. Let's try this again...

Couldn't say with any specificity... far as I'm aware it's largely because the thing's one of the more/most technically advanced of the SNES library, though, or something along those lines. Wasn't until relatively recently (some point during bsnes's development) that anything could even run it, iirc, and I recall earlier attempts actually requiring an additional graphics pack thing on top of the rom dump to even try to get anywhere. Want to say it was star ocean or somethin' (one of the later street fighters?) that had a similar thing going on on that front, but memory, shot, etc., etc.

Having poked around it a bit, I can see it. The damn thing has a biorhythm system and real time synchronization for in-game special events (festivals, the character's birthday, etc.). There's been anime-style cutscenes and wuxia style shit happening in more in-game cutscenes/plot stuffs. At least one, and possibly two (or party characters that eat them for upgrades), pet system(s). Apparently there's giant robot fights at some point going by screenshots, I'unno. Seems to have a good bit going on for its time, and I've barely played any.
