Mm... will say re: those shields you mentioned, it might be worth spoiling things a little and noting you're going to get yet another accessory slot eventually. My own critter actually has been rolling with two shields for a while now (think they're the component pair for an end-chain shield, iirc), since even with the HP freezing I (sorta') need max health to avoid getting squished, heh.

Think you might be able to get the multi-carapace thing already, now that I think about it. Iirc it's a pretty nice defense buff once you cobble the pieces together. Want to say it's the accessory turtle shells you can see dropped in the jungle that's a component, if you're looking for the recipe. There's a surface fungus mob that drops one, too.

Hey, congrats, heh. Had a whole spiel but it's invalid now so whee. Though re: brimstone, I think you don't actually have to be inside the circle to spawn the thing, just in the general calamity biome. Might be able to do it sitting on top of the entrance, assuming you can survive starting the fight in a fairly narrow valley.

Also yeah, at least the throwing artifact is... kinda' lackluster. Like, it's okay for fighting your general chaff mobs, but it's unfortunately one of those whose attacks kinda' interfere with each other, so the damage is just sorta' anemic for something you have to murder most of the vanilla hard mode bosses (plus a bit) for. Probably going to see if I can't fish up the rest of another keystone (found one piece already, just need the rest) and check out the other ones at some point, I'unno.

Can't really remember what you'd have access to at the moment resource wise, or I'd offer suggestions that might be more on the helpful side, heh. Could swear there's a couple really sexy accessories you could potentially get your hands on in that general resource range, but can't remember exactly what you'd need, bleh.

Will say, if you haven't already done it before you go after the brimstone ele you probably want to hollow out a nice huge chunk of the calamity,* and maybe sizable portions of the surrounding underworld. WoF stuff might be enough, but you may want more verticality than those normally get built with. Don't think the ele itself is that bad, but what gets triggered in there afterwards is a different sort of story and you're pretty likely going to want quite a lot of maneuvering room. You're going to be dealing with very explicit bullet hell patterns while quite painful things are trying to ram you, heh.

If you're really feeling frisky, having a solid (and giant) line to the nearest underground hallow could eventually net you an otherwise inaccessible item. Apparently the profaned god has a special drop if you finish killing it in that biome.

* I eventually dug out pretty much everything above the bottom part of the center spot, heh. Dealing with the lava's mildly annoying but something around that level of materials offers complete lava immunity in a hat, so yeah. Makes some of the critter farming a bit more troublesome (theres something that starts spawning that's impressively irritating that can largely be neutered if you can shoot it through a wall), but both the space to maneuver and the ability to use skyfall weapons is real nice.

Maybe go a bit lighter on the summons but heavier on defense and/or mobility? Twins fight looked a lot like being a bit jumpier than normal for a twins fight would be pretty helpful, and for what it's worth there is a faintly ridiculous amount of move speed et al bonuses littering this mod trio. Maybe at least pick up a dash from something if you're not already using one. Hard horizontal juke can be helpful-ish and it's real good at helping you reverse your momentum, assuming the kinda' hair trigger dash has sometimes doesn't get you killed. Almost entirely certain there's at least a shield accessory or two you can get at where you're at that has one built in (even discounting the EoC's expert drop), and there's most definitely some later on.*

Heck, might even consider trying to leverage teleportation. There's a means or two available pre-mechanical, iirc. Chaos eles drop the rod and I think there's some throwables you can get some way or another that'll 'port you to wherever they land... probably some other stuff, there's some weird crap in all the new armor sets introduced.

* It's actually kinda' irritating, multiple of the really good defense accessories (among other things) have a built in dash. I've thought more than once of changing the button for the ruddy thing after trying to perform fine-ish movement (e.g. land on a teleport pad, ferex) led to me instead catapulting myself across the screen or into a wall or boss's one-shot inducing head or whatev'.

E: Though all that said, it's probably worth noting the twins are frankly kinda' tame compared to some of the late game bosses these mods introduce (in any of the three, not just calamity or somethin'). If they're causing frustration some of the stuff after it is probably going to be hell, heh.

Yeah, corpse bloom is actually pre-wall. It's post skeletron and fairly rare, but that's it.

And yes, as you look for moths, know my pain and feel my suffering. Something like seven minutes straight of 30x spawn rate didn't get one of those bastards to show up. Did somewhat after the zerg pot wore out, but not during. Bloody things are a pain to find. Extra fun is when one shows up on the rare enemy finder, and then despawns before you can actually find it. Ruddy thing needs a direction indicator *grumbles*

It's... calamity mod, I think? The play is on the sandstorm in a bottle, since it's a sand elemental in a bottle. It just "happens" that whoever implemented the things made all the accessory minion elementals female. And has the item names/descriptions refer to them as waifu.

That said, it (along with a good four or five other elemental minion granting accessories) is pretty badass for a good chunk of the game/hard mode. Pretty active (if it's not the siren, they tend to hover off the side of my viewscreen when I'm in lower resolution fullscreen), decent damage, likes to hurl around AoE hurt tornadoes, in the case of the sand one. Cloud ele shares largely the same attacks, though with a different color. Kinda' pretty when their two attacks of that sort overlap.

... anyway, they're generally better than a +1 on most other minions, at least for a good long while, so they're pretty good for a summoner until they can stock up on the real good summon accessories. Then, too, once/if you collect all the pieces and get the harem rock heart of the elements. Also looks like their damage jacks up a couple times over the course of the game... triples after moon lord, 2.5x after devourer of the gods. Didn't notice that, good to know.

E: Have the tooltip for the finished product, it also gives 10 def:
Quote
   The heart of the world
Increases max life by 50, life regen by 2, and all damage and crit chance by 10%
Increases movement speed by 10% and jump speed by 200%
Increases damage reduction by 5%
Increases max mana by 50 and reduces mana usage by 5%
You grow flowers on the grass beneath you, chance to grow very random dye plants on grassless dirt
Summons all waifus to protect you

Ehehe. You got the waifu, now you gotta' get the rare one :P

...

Doing that was the reason I crafted the first zerg potion, I think. 2% drop rate on sand eles is just kinda' mean, doubly so when it's expert mode only. That said, if you got the sludge, you got the biggest piece. Battle potion, a bone serpent drop, and murky sludge are the mats needed. Thing's technically pre-wall, though I'm pretty sure it's functionally useless at that point unless you feel like dying for some reason. You kinda' need hard mode items to survive the potion's effect, 30x spawn rate is no joke, heh. I mean, it's actually kinda' hilarious the way everything jumps at you from everywhere but you need some pretty serious dakka or you gon' die with th'quickness.

So far as frostburn vs. other stuff, I'd definitely recommend doing comparison tests for a bit before swapping. You very badly want a source of ichor somewhere in your arsenal for a lot of the tougher mod critters, particularly as a summoner. Armor pen accessories might work, too (I have no idea if summons benefit from them or not), but ichor's a good bit easier.

Could just keep the armor bane around for a debuff swap weapon to whip out when your target stops being yellow... better stuff out there for that specific purpose, but it'd probably be better than not having it. There's accessories that give certain attacks random debuffs that can manage it, too. Sooner or later you'll run into the ichor portal thing and have a summon damage source for the debuff, heh.

i have the Torrential Tear which is a drop from the Desert Scourge. the only downside is that it takes a while for the rain to start. (allthought i saw that it activates other climatic conditions at the same time. because the blizzard started first and there was a sandstorm too. not sure honestly)

in terms of spawnrates, i used an item dropped by the WoF called Demon Trophy. it supposedly boosts spawn rates by 1.25
If tear's the one I'm thinking of, it's just rain. Which is to say rain outside snow biome (good if fishing, always make rain before casting line), blizzard inside snow biome (which pretty definitely increases spawn rate, if you need surface snow biome stuff), and does nothing to sandstorms (though it does cause it to rain in the desert, which as far as I'm aware does nothing unusual). For sandstorms, there's a consumable that some critters drop and the NPC that'll toggle it for a gold piece. Pretty sure the tear's actually instant, too, it just takes a bit for the graphical effects to kick on. Could probably test it if you have the fishing power trinket...

Demon trophy goes, I'm still not entirely sure if/how it works, heh. Current critter's actually ate four of them at this point, but I don't really notice terribly much of a difference. Might just because my standards have been warped by zerg potions, ehehe.* Speaking of those, though, do make sure you never ever throw away or sell murky sludge. They're a pretty rare drop and the main component for said rush potions that are an absolute godsend for farming.

... though speaking of not working, be careful if/when you get to the storm weaver. Might just be a quirk of my computer, but my critter's fought the thing three times so far: Once I got one-shot by a 770 damage crit, and the other two times the game crashed about as soon as I started hitting the thing. So that may be a bit rough, yeh.

* Neat thing, I went from nymph mission to like the one just before bone lee in the tracker over the course of one rush potion. It's hectic as all hell but it's real good at getting rare mobs to spawn in a short time frame, providing you can survive it. Also if for some reason you want a bajillion birds or somethin'. Enough NPCs will mostly suppress hostiles but that don't stop dozens of rabbits and crap from trying to invade your housing.

If you're cloud ele hunting, you might want to bring something that can make it rain. At least feels like it boosts their spawn up a bit. Pretty sure there's something fairly early in hard mode you can craft that lets you toggle rain more or less at will... another one not that much past it that lets you flip the day/night cycle, which is tremendously useful.

Re: Beholder staves and firing rate, they're a bit weird. Sometimes the things will machine gun fire (for shooty minions, anyway), sometimes they pace it out a bit, and a pattern to it I haven't really noticed. Mostly would very much not recommend them for damage, though. They're good-ish for it, but not two minion slots good. You keep one around for the enemy detection until you have other means of that (my current guy mostly just spams clockwork bow around with an accessory that makes projectiles emit light. Reveals pretty much the entire screen I'm on, ehehe), and that's about it.

If you can get to it, I think you could get twisted bark from waking nightmares in the dungeon at this point, though I may be getting confused and that being post mechanical/plantera.* Once you can, definitely do. The critters it summons are pretty mean just by themselves, but they also come with a generic summons buff while they're out. Pretty sexy stuff, heh.

Thaaat said, if you have beholders you can probably survive spelunking in the jungle. Corpse bloom should be loitering around somewhere down there. Kill the thing and a NPC shows up that fixes any concern you'll have for plants for the rest of forever, ehehe.

Also yeah, healing may be more important, but don't forget at the absolute least the unholy glyph's effect is inherited by your summons. It's a pretty nice damage boost if you're looking for one. Can be good to have a mix of enchantments instead of just using one, yeh.

Costs a bit of money, but you're in hard mode on revengence, now. Money isn't going to be an issue for much longer. Current guy's frittering around trying to get up the scratch to stop being one-shot by late game spirit/calamity bosses, and occasionally loses 150-200 plat when something manages to kill 'em, with 300+ in the piggy bank. Cash inflates hard after a certain point, which I guess is good 'cause some of the boss summoning items also sell for upwards 30 plat a pop, and sinking fifty or sixty plat into getting a top grade modifier is pretty normal.

*E: Yeah, double check suggests it's post plantera dungeon. Bit of a ways away, then.

I'unno man, some of those myth critters do a pretty good job of blasted hellscape, from what I recall. Usually not planet wide stuff, so it's still a possible step down from a sauron victory route, but... still. Sometimes they can be good or bad depending on how you treat it, sometimes they depopulate a nation because sod everything in it, it's in the way or summat.

Lot more didn't go the localized disaster route and "just" had a diet of human (parts) or somethin', too. Plenty of times they're capricious as all hell and whether or not you walk away on foot, crawling, or in something's stomach is effectively an RNG check. Roll whatever diplo number you feel the DC ain't a persuasion or etiquette check bub, shoulda' used that cha as a dump stat. You had your be polite ones and you had your run the hell away and pray you fall off a cliff or somethin' instead of get caught.

Basically y'might be underselling what "just live with it" would probably mean, heh. I'm not entirely sure a environment where those critters were actually around and active, as opposed to stories and the occasional event attributed to 'em, would be much more livable for humans than a mordor world tour. Lot of ways you'd basically be taking much of the many, many ills of mankind in the olden times and personifying the bunch of 'em. It's one thing where folks think they're real and a rather different one when they're physically walking down the street, ha.

There may indeed end up a with a lot more stuff still living, though. I'm just not entirely sure how much of it would be humans :P

Later on you'll get a nice lil' thing for housing. Think thorium adds it, something like a one tile wall hanging that qualifies for everything a house needs. And yeah, I have no clue why the rogue needs that specific item instead of just a throwing weapon in general or something.

... any case, ceaseless void was a thing. Down side, took far longer than it should have. Up side, I got to see the DPS meter read 20k+ a few times, for a bit. Ruddy ridiculous fight. Bring AoE. Lots of AoE.

Also, I've kinda' noticed that fancy dyed (or at least purple ooze) lamia wraps apparently give female characters intermittently glowing nipples. Still not sure what to think about this development.

6567
Possibly? It rings a bell, but I only really read through the first book, and as with you it's been years... more like decades at this point, I think. I'm pretty sure there was at least one mindflayer attack on a gnomeish population in the first book, though.

So you... want to send your alien foe a bombardment of the remains of their former planets that you destroyed?

That's a new level of harsh- to put that in perspective, that'd be like bombarding the Rebel Base on Hoth (Echo Base) with bits of Alderaan.
You're getting the idea, yes. Probably make a closer comparison to bombarding whatever outer rim world was next with bits of bakura, after getting fed up with trying to stuff their population into your computers' batteries.

Hoth was pretty empty, if you're going to drop the wreckage of a destroyed planetary population onto another planetary population you want to hit something with a bit more impact, and the whole needlessly sadistic alien lizard people stuffing the souls of xeno non-people into pain matrices to power their kitchen appliances and whatnot is a lot more in line with turning a planet's debris field into the proverbial rocks fallen.

Sadly, as in-depth as Aurora is I don't believe it's that in-depth. The best you can really do is so badly irradiate and pollute a planet that it's virtually uninhabitable.
Didn't recall it being that in depth, heh. I'm just saying, if you really want to be sure, using fragments of their planet as the opening volley of a KKV bombardment on some other entity that's annoyed you is the way to go. Nothing says surety like the space frozen ashen wastes of their civilization turning to slag as it burns through another planet's atmosphere and crushes their habitable environments to ruin.

Re: NPCs, probably the main one I could see missing is the Rogue. Can't remember you mentioning it and quick thread search didn't turn up anything either.

Thing has a piece of a pretty ballin' ranged accessory, but the requirements are something really easy to miss. I didn't figure it out until I actually looked up how to find the piece at some point post plantera, and found out it was in the inventory of a pre-wall NPC, heh. Thing's mostly throwing related, but I think there's one or two generically useful bits, too.

... any case, if you haven't yet, take the time to forge some iron level shuriken and keep at least one in your inventory. Because that is the requirement. Not a throwing weapon, not any particular shuriken, but specifically an iron tier one sitting in your inventory. As far as I'm aware absolutely nothing drops them, so unless you happen to craft that particular sort of one for some reason, it's hella' easy to miss the guy.

E: And ah, re: party girl, far as I'm aware what she has new is a ranged weapon I haven't got around to trying. It lists itself as actually doing pretty hefty base damage for the point you can get it, and iirc it's the material for a hard mode gun or somethin', too. Spirit mod puts it in, checking.
