... so yeah xar. Little bit of friendly advice. If you happen to go swimming in the ocean, and get out to the edge of the map. And there's this thing there? Called ??? on the rare finder. Couldn't see it too well, but it's fairly large and vaguely humanoid. 3k hp in expert/hardmode/revenge.

Just.

Just leave it alone.

Sweet holy hell just leave it alone.

Though now I know these mods include bosses that functionally can't be fought if your resolution is too low. Because clearly you don't need to see the HP of that thing taking up like half of the side of your screen :V

Hoho, fyi if you haven't noticed it yet, but one of the NPCs actually sells the compass and depth meter now. Adventurer, checking real quick... they got some alright other junk, too. Unfortunately, I have zero clue what the prereqs for the critter is, heh.

Also might be worth noting iffin' yeh hadn't seen it, a lot (all?) of the various status effect immunity items (i.e. ankh shield components) can be built, instead of having to roll around in the RNG like a pig on pcp.

Cni's a rare critter, at least. Conceptually. I was blast mining my way around the underground desert (revengence makes that a lot more sustainable early on, by the by) and ran into like a dozen of the ruddy things inside maybe 20, 30 minutes at the most.

Best suggestion I have with it is to have some kind of minion that will track onto things (brier will do it, I'm currently using meteor heads because they're friggin' amazing, especially with the meteor armor summoning set) and then hide behind a wall. The projectiles don't pierce, so as long as it's not cheerfully ignoring collision you're pretty much entirely safe as your minions whittle down their health.

E: Huh. Well that's interesting. Dunno if it's intentional, but once you get access to the enchanter, you can enchant weapons. Oddity to it, the effect isn't bound to the specific weapon's attacks, so if you have, say, the poison cloud proc one on your primary, any other sources of damage you're putting out also gain the effect so long as you're currently using the enchanted weapon.

Sources like, say, minions. Because these meteor heads totally needed extra crit, and a poison proc that puts out four clouds each doing like 4 times a single head hit, on top of the meteor armor's "Hey let's juggle that darksteel knight" summoner set ability. Whee.

Oh, neat. If you happen to have not been around those cnidrions or whatever they are long enough. Turns out the oversized blue gecko can move itself through walls.

Of all the things I expected it to do after seeing it the first time, noclip was not among them.

Uh. Hrm. Well, if you can pop a shadow orb/heart whatsit, and chill till a meteor drops. Then go gets some. You can make a staff for 10 bars, and the meteor heads it pops out are pretty brutal. Also looks like meteor armor's got a summoning variant, too.

Also pretty sure you want that NPC. Maybe knock it off the swarmer or something, don't quite remember what it entails. That sounds like the desert NPC guy, and that's the one that gives you the damage multiplying throwing accessories of doom. Maybe less applicable if you're trying full summon, though, I'unno. Guy potentially has some really sexy stuff if it's the same one, anyway.

E: Also meteor wise, the meteor fist (also 10 bars, if I haven't already forgotten) is very useful, if you haven't tried it before. One of the best exploratory illumination items available, early on. The explosion the fists leave lingers long enough to get a pretty good view of whatever's below it, and they don't use ammo or cost mana soooo...

Iirc (I've actually loaded up the same mod list and am poking around a bit :P), there's a pretty nice early game summoning weapon available if you can reach the... Reach. Brier elemental summon staff, can build it out of critter drops in the area (and the critters are pretty tame, basically somewhat higher damage skeletons, eyeballs, and slimes, so long as you don't go too far underground); the damage per damage instance is about in line with that sun spirit, but the way it attacks means it can occasionally end up inside things and stack up a good chunk of damage. Has just the right amount of knockback to make it hard for stuff like eyes to get to you, too.

There's also good odds of finding, um. Some mineral I've already forgotten the name of, kinda' pale green and pointy. In chests in the biome in question. Want to say it's eight or so to make a pretty nice sword for that stage of the game, decently fast swinging and launches a straight line projectile with good range and a chance to poison. Made dealing with stuff until I got better junk much more smooth. Other pretty nice one, if you can dig up some diamonds -- 5 diamonds, 3 fallen stars, and 50 throwing knives makes an infinite ammo throwing weapon with alright-ish damage for that stage of the game, that splinters part way through its throwing arc, shooting off three or four extra projectiles in other directions. Pretty good stuff for pre-boss access.

If you're going for speed town construction, the secret to doing it quickly is to give not a single damn about aesthetics. Either econobox it and build a tower of those minimum-size ones that have no doors, only platforms, or just put very little consideration into silly things like it being pretty or symmetric or the same material or etc. The less you care about how it looks the faster it can get built :V

... now if you're asking how people get those pretty or vaguely okay looking town-like things up quicklike, man, heck if I know. Think at least some cheat in materials, others have friends come in and help, or import construction accessories from a different char if they're not using it anyway, and so on. Rest's probably just a good deal of repetition.

Ain't no accident omitting those when you're talking about the US. Technically they have access to the same advantages and sometimes even get them, but in practice, things ain't quite so even.

Christian churches got treated the same way non ones do, we'd be dealing with notably less abuses of the extra consideration, heh. General point being if you want religious discrimination to not be coming from the gov't, there's an elephant in your room and it's getting better treatment than pretty much anyone.

Want to say they do, but they also inherit the damage malus. Unless they do something more than hurt (and, to be fair, there are some that bring debuffs to the table), it probably wouldn't help much.

6595
Man, if you'd never support that and you're stateside you got a helluva' lot of christian shitkicking to do. Most of it's positive discrimination or whatever the hell the word is but churches get a fair heap of special privileges, and it's damn sure not equally accessible to all religions. Things do seem to be getting a little better in some ways as the churches push away more of the younger generations, but eesh.

That's what the Dems need to fix next time around. Someone similar to Trump but saner and preferably less prone to diplomatic fuck-ups.
Do they, though? Dems have enough trouble taking the election when they win the popular vote. Moving towards what lost it seems a bit sketchy as a proposition.

So far as what parts of trump's vote share (probably not his base, mind) can be redirected, you probably just need someone decently effective at highlighting GOP economic bullshit as bullshit. Which'll prooooobably be a bit easier come 2020, heh. Or go full blunt and run a white dude that's marginally competent, not running after eight years of sustained racist vitriol aimed towards their party, and consequently somewhat more effective at shutting down dogwhistle dickery.

There is a lake within a stone throw reach from this building.
I suspect fishmen.
Fishmen is like the best case scenario, though. Get a good bludgeon and a grill, all the pleasures of cannibalism with the fine taste of seafood and none of the moral quandary.

Other Games / Re: What are your gaming quirks?
« on: October 20, 2017, 10:36:26 pm »
I'm pretty sure most gamers have the hoarding issue, especially older-ish ones. There's been a lot of stuff over the years that trains you hard to loot everything to the ground and never let go of anything whatsoever, while simultaneously never really being difficult enough you need the shiniest of macguffins to save you. So you compulsively collect them and never use them. It's a vicious cycle.*

... in any case, I think about the closest thing I have to a persistent quirk these days is naming characters something traditionally inflicted on their opposite gender. Not an always thing, but... very common. At my laziest I default to naming guys Jill and ladyfolk Jack. It's a hobby, I guess.

Second closest would probably be a fairly low bar (at least relative to when I was younger) for deciding to slap a game in the face with a twelve inch cheat engine. Memory editors have made that sort of thing so much easier nowadays, so if a particular feature annoys me in a game I otherwise like, I tend to just... fix... the nuisance factor.

*E: ... that said, did you know you end up with around two or three thousand gold if you vendor everything in morrowind's starting town? Because you do. Strip enough houses of their cutlery and pillows and it adds up.

E2: though that did remind me, there is a third notable I can recall. Occasionally I'll fixate on a specific item or category of items, and either hang onto one forever (Voidspire Tactics was one of the more recent ones I played through where I did that) or collect basically every one of them I encounter. Elderscrolls games are easily the most prominent offenders on that front. I compulsively loot every light source I can find, because for whatever reason it amuses me to filch a lantern from behind a guard while yelling something along the lines of, "I am the thief of light!" in my head.

Well remember one time I took the time to do it and absolutely blanketed a building in purloined lighting. One of those shacks in the starting town, iirc. Every available surface had lights on it. Roof, encircling the building, everything you could stick one on inside. Torches, lanterns, if it glowed it was included. It was a good run, that one.

Yeah, I got no real idea with the shell. Maybe it'd have a decent use with multiplayer? Emergency button to hit when about to kick it so a healer or somethin' can bring you back into the game. Maybe for a music critter to keep themselves alive and buffing, I'unno.

Wish I could remember exactly what kit setup I was using at the time. I'm pretty sure somewhere in there I had a throwing setup that was like spectre + hood except on crack and with (multiple) %max HP damage procs (iirc, it was both %max hp and % lifesteal -- and when you're dealing with targets with tens of thousands of HP, it turns into something close to a full heal every time it happens). It was disgusting, to the point it actually let me take out some late game bosses without freezing my HP :V

Didn't quite let me just sit in the middle of the apocalypse trio in the end, but it came closer than it should have.

I mean... complete honesty, if you're looking for something on a 3ds I really can't recommend anything kemco unless it's real damn cheap and you're cash starved. They make solid-ish but thoroughly mediocre jrpgs (and both cryst and soe are veeeerry much mediocre), and bunches of 'em, but basically none of them are particularly good, just possessing an occasional good part. They're decent enough to mostly not be outright shovelware but there's totally better stuff on pretty much any platform they sell on. Don't really expect much out of it, basically.

Though now that I'm awake enough to read straight, "burned through everything else" is an okay reason to be sifting through kemco games, heh. Also it's apparently too late, ahaha. Anyway, my kemco heuristic basically boils down to "is it in a humble bundle", heh. Generally not something I'd consider worth the price otherwise (even when the price is like .99 USD).

... that said, yeah, I've apparently played eternity*. Not sure I'd call it one of their best (its one of their more sparse/old ones, so it's more mid/early generic SNES jrpg and less mid/late generic SNES jrpg), but it's probably at least one of their middle-ish tier ones. Kinda' hard to say, really. I've played a good number of kemco games so far but there's kinda' a shitton of kemco games, so there's plenty I haven't played. Pretty sure there's another one related to that one (sequel or prequel or something; the robots are in both) that I liked more. Combat system was manaless, game itself was a bit prettier and smoother gameplay/progression wise, etc. Can't remember which it is off the top of my head, though.

*Not eternia, mind, as as near as I can tell kemco has nothing with that exact name. Closest that exists is tales of eternia, and the tales of line of games is something very, very different.
