Here's where I saw reference. Model it's referencing is HWRF12z, which is apparently one of the NOAA's newer modeling systems.

Though re: that peak, NHC done adjusted it up by 5.

Oh, don't worry, mars is still worse. Particulate dust/sand is amazing and terrible, even beyond the whole unbreathable atmosphere thing.

6813
Yeah... saw mention that one of the most accurate models so far are predicting a possible peak at around 230 mph wind speeds. Which, uh. Would make it literally the most intense hurricane we've seen in at least the better part of two hundred-ish years since we've been recording. #1 in history, baby.

Still, going to take another day or three before we've got a particularly useful measure of where and how strong it's likely to hit. But... yeah. It's pretty much guaranteed to hit continental U.S. as at least a cat 4 at this point, if it makes landfall as it's real damn likely to.

Not saying abandon the south east entirely for a few weeks, but... maybe. Maybe that ends up being a good idea in the next few days.

E: Incidentally, MSH, that 190 would tie it with Tip. 215 would match patricia. Higher would say fuck you to cyclonic wind speed records.

E2: Oh, and yeah, those islands to our south east may end up being not inhabited anymore if that thing gets too close to them somewhere on the way to a peak like that.

Yeah... might be asking some family living in the area if they want to come a bit further north for a bit.

... or visit family in the north east for a few days/weeks.

After they jammed their collective thumbs up their asses and sat on a different solution for who knows how long, worked up the states that were attempting a legal challenge, confirmed the xenophobe fuck of an AG that won't attempt a challenge to 'em, and appointed the SCOTUS judge that's putting the issue at risk.

GOP's got a lot of excuses they like to trot out, but they're plain bullshit to an extent you can smell it from one end of this country to the other. Entire reason it's not something dealt with and in a way that wasn't disgusting is caused by shit they've intentionally done. The claim of constitutional concern is bullshit, complete and utter, and there only because they refused to allow anything else (that wasn't a complete ethics abomination, anyway).

Pretty sure most of it actually has to do with that specifically being for atlantic hurricanes. They tend to ramp hardest once they're in the caribbean or the gulf.

6817
Eh. One way or another states have already started piling on with a promise to bury attempts to nix DACA in litigation. Have to see how it falls out.

Really one of those things that hammers in exactly what trump and the GOP are after, though. Just about everything we have says doing that would lose jobs for everyone. Net economic loss, on top of the fucking massive moral failure. So yet again, every piece of shit they squeeze out their mouths about it being anything but racism and/or xenophobia is evidenced to be a complete fucking lie.

6818
Um. Yeaaahh.

Hurricane Irma is so strong it's starting to show up on seismometers in the Caribbean -- equipment designed to measure earthquakes.

Incidentally, currently tied or about to pass the top spot for strongest atlantic hurricane on record.

I suppose more accurately, a wizard is a person who understands magic and a sorcerer is a person who has magic inside of them.
More more accurately, they're synonyms that only have meaning more distinct than magic user depending on the author's whims :P

... also from what I recall dual class wizard/sorcerers tended to be kinda'... not that great. Probably more a detriment than boon in most builds, D&D wise.

Huh. Has irma been confirmed as a likely (relatively) heavy rain storm? Last I remember hearing anything on that front it looked like its big problem (insofar as a storm that might hit cat 5 and will probably hit at 3-4 goes) was winds more than particularly heavy rainfall.

Though eh, isp. It can help (for a given definition of help, considering it more means it knocks over your neighbors' houses instead of yours) for a hurricane to hit opposite coast of you, but it often enough only matters so much. Florida is neither terribly wide nor terribly tall. Buffer is something that happens more to other places, ha.

Does hit me for all harvey was a complete bastard and irma's probably aiming at me, I think somewhere in my heart they've made me a bit more relaxed. Basically a decade without any really major hurricanes hitting was making the murphy worshipper hiding in a corner of my soul kinda' jittery. Sky god back to trying to kill the south east, things are getting back to normal.

General Discussion / Re: philosophy: is "chair" an opinion?
« on: September 04, 2017, 08:18:08 am »
Can be an opinion, based on your chosen axioms. Generally, if you're working off an agreed definition of chair, identifying something as belonging (if perhaps not exclusively) to that category can be considered a(n attempt at making, since you could just be kinda' wrong) statement of fact. Other stuff falls out along those lines.

Is it human is more difficult because we're alternately arrogant and bigoted shits, and always working with incomplete information on the subject, and have traditionally tried pretty hard to avoid coming to an agreed definition on that front.

Now, if you ain't got that agreement you're having a roll in the hay with solipsism or something in its general direction and all bets are off, save that the proper response is probably going to be to ignore whoever's disagreeing's inanity and throw things at them until they go away.

Last night, family asks, "hey, think you could drop a transmission for me?" I go, to more bluntly paraphrase, "hell if I know, would have to go look, try." Cause I had fuck all knowledge or experience with whatever was involved.

Morning comes. Go look. Look up how-to, what the hell the transmission actually is (didn't remember, I don't work with engines enough to retain what the blazes anything is except the battery and various liquid input holes), what's needed and how long it'd probably take, risks, etc.

Look at a few different step by steps. Stare for a while. Under two hour job if you know what you're doing and are in relatively good shape -- neither describes me, the latter emphatically doesn't describe said family, in the "doctor has told you to not fucking do this shit repeatedly" sense, and the former conditionally due to senility. Takes tools we don't seem to have (have jack! Need transmission jack or adapter, which if we do I can't find and is needed to reduce chance of maiming and/or critical repair failure). Heavily recommends a second person there that would be able to do more than call an ambulance and/or have a heart attack/stroke and die if something went wrong. Happens to be the one of the more common operations that ends up ruining a vehicle and/or its transmission if you screw up any one of two or three different steps.

Like. Good bloody goddamn hell. A) No. Get someone here that has at least somewhat more of an idea of what they're doing and I'll help even if it's fuckstupid o'clock during the day (I.e. any point after about six am and before around 7 pm, at the moment). B) Please stop trying to do shit that runs an unnecessarily high chance of wrecking things, just because you're too fucking impatient to wait a few days. C) For the nth goddamn time please stop trying to get yourself and/or me maimed and/or killed by trying to get things done neither of us have any business trying to do.

Have you considered... birds?

Hey, there's video. You can hear it yourself. Delivery wasn't very good... sounded less like humor and more like exasperation, really. Also is georgia. Pretty understandable why his bosses would be just a wee bit sketchy of keeping around someone caught making statements like that on the clock. Poor PR in an area with pretty good cause to be sensitive about that kind of thing.

Can't really tell if he was fired, though. Seems like every news thing I looked at getting to said video alternated between saying he was fired or retired. The recommendation was firing, but whether it actually happened I couldn't tell with what looking I did.
