Looks like trump's finally signed the disaster proclamation that reached his desk what looks like a good six or seven hours ago. So there's that. Hope to hell someone's told FEMA et al besides his twitter post.

E: Ah, and a good bit of Corpus Christi's emergency response infrastructure (main center, vehicles, etc.) have now been reported to be more or less fucked. Response there is likely to be delayed and fractured for a while :-\

E2: Though the real goddamn about it is the shit hasn't even really hit the fan yet. Even though it's been about fifty years since the last cat 4 made landfall in tex, the sumbitch about this one is that predictions are showing it's going to be effectively parking itself for upwards the better part of a week. It's bettable odds anything in a flood zone in that region is going to be gone by next friday.

Knowing and caring are two different things MSH, and storm chasers tend to not have much of the latter to give.

E: Ah, and it looks like it's started raining over here in the panhandle. Was wondering if that was going to start tonight or wait a day or three.

6918
Yeah, it's supposed to be somewhere in that area now... or soonish/a bit ago.

... incidentally, rockport (where the guy's streaming from -- there's actually at least one more chaser in town somewhere else trying the same, apparently) was under mandatory evac, which means ETA on first responders is "No one knows."

6919
Somethin' folks might be interested in. Normally don't really look at reddit, but that's got stuff comin' in pretty quick. Looks like we're getting first official-ish damage reports; buildings wrecked (no shit) in rockport, some folks that couldn't or wouldn't get away may be trapped :-\

6920
Though for what it's worth, looks like one of the other folks there just tweeted so if they haven't dropped in the minutes/seconds since, they're still alive, at least for a bit longer.

6921
Which means exactly jack nothing that close to that strong of a hurricane's eye, mind.

6922
For now, anyway. Or not. Still not entirely sure linking was a good idea, honestly, just 'cause, y'know. Odds are much worse than even he doesn't make it.

They're... probably not leaving. Like, where they're at right now, if that car gets out from under cover it's probably going to start doing acrobatics. Maybe it's got some hella' mods of some sort on it, but...
The car is inside a car wash building apparently, which is decent cover. It's squat and heavy. And a car can't take impacts all that well, but at least it'll hit that instead of you.
Eh, it can make a difference, just only so much of one. Cat 1 or 2 or so and I wouldn't see it as sketchy as I do at th'mo' (hell, I've been outside in winds at those levels before, if far enough inland a lot of the worst of it was mitigated even with the winds going as strong), but... that ain't a cat 1 or 2. Or 3. Hit'll transfer through a vehicle even if it doesn't puncture, winds like that can take down just about anything civilian if it hits it the right way, etc., etc.

6924
Probably... for all the good it'd do. Survival where he's at is pretty much entirely luck. The winds are enough to put things through that car like it's paper, if it doesn't just take the car itself and put it through a wall.

That close to a cat 4 eyewall isn't so much dice rolling as attempting suicide, frankly. Was tempted enough to try looking but I'm kinda' relieved I can't.

6926
Can't get it to run on my end, and I'm not actually sure I'd recommend looking in on it 'cause what I can see of folks talking about it suggests it may be rapidly approaching a livestream of someone dying, but this is apparently live from suicidally stupid close to the eyewall. 3-5 miles away, something like that. Emmy award winning storm chaser, apparently, but...

Better not be intolerance. I ate nothing yesterday that I don't eat and enjoy often.

Imma go with an undetectable bug for now.
... depending on exactly what sort of feeling like shit it is, there's more than stomach problems on the table. I had something similar happen to me a ways back that rapidly got bad enough I ended up in the ER. Turned out it was a kidney stone, and if something's off/hurts enough your body starts trying to expel as much as it can in hopes of making it stop. Looke and felt like food poisoning kicked up a notch, just... wasn't. Hopefully that ain't it, 'cause bloody hell it sucks. Had a chunk of me took out about the size of a softball at one point from surgery, and recovery from that (all better part of a year of it combined) got knocked down to number 2 in my lifetime's pain records that day.

Any case, getting increasingly frustrating lately to be as messed up as I am physically and otherwise, particularly on top of being broke. Shit like tex going down, family needing more help than I'm managing, and there's just. Not much I can figure out to do, that I'm not going to be incapable of doing outright or likely unable to maintain long enough to matter. And what little money I'd have to give is both little and the entirety of the financial cushion I have that isn't family. Been making for some pretty shitty days the last few weeks. All can do is hope I trip over somethin' that makes things better, I guess.

Anger at events et al have been giving some unusual degree of motivation, but the problem there is that anger makes me feel even shittier than normal, so it's a two steps forward two to two and a half back kind of thing.

Still, there's some folks a 12-18 hour or so drive from me about to have an even shittier time of things than I am, so... best of wishes to 'em.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think trump is even aware of that side of things, or would give a single shit even if he was. It's just vaguely amusing (or something similar to it) that chunks of the GOP base are cheering the fed effectively pissing on a state court. Drives home what that chunk of their base really cares about, for the Nth time.

E: Or, well, it would be vaguely amusing if it didn't mean the president was screwing around with some racist jackhole totem when folks less than a day's drive from me are about to get hit by the sodden hammer of god.

See, the thing is, though, is that joe's not being pardoned on what the state convicted him of. Trump literally can't pardon that -- presidential pardon extends to federal crimes and no further. He's being pardoned of the contempt of court charge he ate when the appeals (iirc, or somethin') hit the federal level. Whatever the state hit him with is still there, whatever else they feel like hitting him with is still there, etc., so on.

E: Amusingly goddamn enough, a good chunk of what's going on related to that is a state's rights issue, and trump is attempting to take a piss on them. Gods alive, this shit.

Bravery, desperation, stupidity. The usual for people who are about to get sideswiped by a hurricane and didn't start preparing for it (i.e. getting the hell out of dodge, particularly if you're on the coast) early enough.
