Like... I get the sentiment, and everything. But it does strike me that trading a thousand demons and only getting one new one back is a pretty good deal? Reducing your considered demon population by around 99.9% is usually considered fairly successful, I think.

Even better, running with the concept, once you've killed off about a million demons, you have a thousand new ones to deal with, can kill them, and have turned a million demons into one demon. This is damn good efficiency we're talking, here. I'm not sure it's a good bit of pith to use, all things considered.

... that looks more like neo's overdosed on something unhealthy, really. Or trying to make some kind of point in something approaching the worst way possible. Can't really tell.

*scratches head* Uh. That's actually kinda' one of the few areas where just about everyone in our political system measurably benefits from it. Chunk to do with why food is as cheap as it is, why people in poverty aren't really outright starving much of the time.

There's a lot of other shit seven different kinds of wrong with the situation, but that that de-facto slavery is providing a fair heap of shit to the country as a whole is one of the reasons the issue's as loggerheaded as it is.

I didn't mean Bannon would spill every single thing HE knows, I meant stuff about Trump or Russia. If Trumps base sours on Bannons ousting, he could very well turn on Trump.
I know you were talking about that, smj. Thing is, the sorta' folks that's willing to go that far generally don't care who the hell you're backstabbing, just that you are and you have things you can stab them with, too.

It's not exactly unknown for people with criminal (or equivalent) ties that break ranks to get dealt with by people largely or entirely unrelated to whoever they immediately broke ranks with. If you can be broke once, you can be broke twice, so someone goes and makes sure you're broke into enough pieces the question becomes as academic as your tenure in cold storage.

Questionably anything? It's not bad odds people would literally kill bannon if he started talking. Not even necessarily because of what he'd have to spill on trump's lot, but just because of what it signals so far as ability to trust the guy to stay quiet about various sorts of stuff.

Snitching would be how he gets all sorts of alt-right folks he's connected to, that just happen to know of someone or another willing to put a traitor in a grave, twitchy. Whatever the majority of 'em may or may not be, the alt-right very much is the single largest source of domestic terrorism in this country, and the various crime ties aren't exactly trivial. If he's made confidences people'd kill over, and it's pretty damn possible he has over the years, that sort of thing is how you get them to give it a go.

Conceptually protective services or somethin' could manage something, but do you actually think there is a single chance in hell one of the major figures in the movement to burn the government to the ground would actually go for that?

I could see a bunch of the trump co critters getting away with something like that, 'cause they generally look like they're not really in particularly deep, but bannon has been face down and rolling in that muck for years.

Though in other-ish news, I did find out somethin' kinda'... interesting isn't the right word, but whatever, because of all this.

Y'all know the GOP has been spearheading attempted legislation that would make "accidentally" killing protesters by way of vehicular manslaughter no longer grounds for a civil suite? Can't recall if it's extended to criminal, too, but the "fun" part of that is proving it wasn't an accident takes the prosecution being able to prove intent. Scattered around a few states; mostly being knocked down because what the shit, but it may have passed in a few places. Heard mention of NC, but haven't gotten around to checking.

Says a lot about the GOP leadership, really. Idle pastime: Trying to more or less legalize murdering political activists and/or get people out of civil damages if they can't muster enough of a fuck to not drive over protesters. Can't imagine that would go well on a date site profile or somethin'.

Or at least pop a warning more explicit. Iirc we got german folk around here, and it's still conceptually possible that kinda' thing can cause problems.

It's... kinda' self-evident they're not a tiny, tiny minority, though? Duke isn't exactly wrong when he tells the world trump owes his place as POTUS to 'em. If nothing else, the impact is rather disproportionate to the size.

Everybody white probably ain't accurate, but SG saying most folks in his social circle are probably is. Chunks of this country are still quite like that, and actually aren't more than a loosening of taboo from cheering that sort of filth on pretty openly.

Man, fine. Just note carefully pretty much goddamn nobody is saying the government should, about what this thread of discussion started on. This ain't about legislation or enforcement. This is about folks noting that when an american citizen is killed by a domestic terrorist, that milquetoast shite the POTUS has spat out is not what is supposed to be coming out.

Maybe the shit turns around in the next few days when it becomes more obvious exactly how he fucked up. It even approaches possible, given that even the bloody GOP has been having folks pick up the message of, "Yo', what the hell." It'd almost be nice to be surprised on this one.

... not "just" because someone doesn't like it. Because the folks in question are literally proponents of murder, ethnic cleansing, etc. Dislike isn't exactly the right term when the condemnation is for the components of goddamn genocide.

Policy ain't to say they can't think, good action is to shout the filth down and good policy is to make incitement a crime and hate an aggravating factor. Which is on the books, at least, for all it's hell to actually stick the former to people.

Kinda shitty tbh, just a statement half a day later saying "we mean nazis too,"
Ah, only took the press crew a couple tries, then. It's almost somethin'.

Does look like trump himself is still refusing to the say the words like they're pazuzu, but hey, I guess the people he regularly contradicts had the reproductive fortitude.

"You shouldn't be white supremacists, mmkay? White supremacy is bad, mmkay?"

Trump's statement has about as much effectiveness as Mr. Mackey.
Has him or the WH press crew actually gotten around to getting off their craven asses and specifically mentioning white supremacy, yet? Hell, nazi shit, even. Right wing extremists, whatever. Last time I checked they were still avoiding those kind of specifics in a way that defies words, particularly ones suited to public discourse.

I can call it unfounded because none of the people at that rally ever walked through a town in Virginia beating up whoever they want because skin-hate, and I don't see them doing so in the future.
Whoo boy honey I would bet you money -- actual money, not fake money or money I don't have, I got twenty bucks lying around I can't really afford to fritter away that I'd do it with -- that one or more of the people rallying around folks toting swastika flags about do, in fact, have some convictions under their belt where A) the victim(s) involved weren't white, and/or B) turned out to be considered a hate crime.

Seriously man, I would not want to be someone trying to lay the bet down that no one at a white supremacist rally that had open goddamn nazis walking around with it has gone around beating the shit out of brown people. You might slip through if you go with "On main street, in broad daylight, specifically in virgina", but I'm still not entirely sure that's a bet I'd be willing to make. Has anyone actually got around to checking that one? Because if there's bloody anywhere where someone involved might have done that, this was one of the spots.
And allow me to clarify this, because I have a feeling your response will be along your "didn't see any klansmen there" lines.  They were protesting the removal of a tribute to a man who fought in support of victimizing black people in the past.  Is that not making their stance pretty clear?
Don't forget the good ol' swastika and confed battle flags, man. I'm just going to wager it didn't take a minority within viewing distance of that mess seeing klan walking around in full regalia to ken on to what that lot was about.

Loathe as I am to defend Trump, I cannot agree with the criticism he is receiving for failing to name specific groups and disavow them. It's not the President's responsibility to decide which ideological groups are good or bad. Trump denounced the violent actions, and that was an entirely sufficient response to this situation.
Everything else aside, no, I'm pretty sure it actually is an american president's responsibility to acknowledge neo-nazis and whatnot as bad. We nuked people because of the mess their shit kicked off, we're kinda' committed at this point. He also denounced the violent actions of both sides, in a case where one side actually bloody killed someone. In an act of domestic terrorism. Trump's response was insufficient to the magnitude of the issue by a long damned shot.

Quote
Also, he responded within hours of the violence ramping up, and was harshly criticized for not saying anything sooner. That is just utterly ridiculous.
He's harshly criticized for giving what appeared to be an as-sincere-as-he-gets condolence to the dead cops minutes after their situation was known, while giving a lukewarm response to the citizen murdered by a right-wing extremist... something like an hour later? Somethin' like that. When the second happened before the first. Junk along those lines. There's more going on with this crap than you seem to have noticed, y'ken?

In that sort of context, Trump's vague response makes some sense since he was caught in the same bind, except that he didn't want to alienate his base. He got pilloried from both sides for his effort, or lack of.
I mean... of course the POTUS's statements make more sense in the context of trying to pander to white supremacist and/or neo-nazi groups without outright saying he supports them? Lotta' his crap makes more sense if you stop trying to make excuses for the discrepancies involved, it just ain't exactly a glowing picture that gets painted in the process.
