No, no, I'm pretty sure that's just some odd sort of language drift at worst. Everyone is fastidiously calling whatever it is that's supposed to be an elk an elk. The definition of elk, even, is now, "Whatever it is that's supposed to be called an elk." It's a delightful example of efficient variable linguistic recursion. which may or may not be more evil than you. It's hard to tell with evlr.

... dunno if I ever posted this. Was probably a good decade or better where the first (pre-song, sorta') bit of it was intermittently stuck in my head, despite having heard it even more years before it started doing that. Bit like Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, that.

But sometime in the last year or so, I got around to finding a recording I had originally seen on VHS.

Never have got around to seeing if I could actually dig up where the instrumental bit I remembered came from, but the vid is an old Screen Song short for someone or another's "Oh, You Beautiful Doll."

I... seem to recall it had gone bad before 2010? Think I remember starting to have to excise it somewhere in the mid to late '00s, anyway. Depends on what you call many years for an AV program, I guess, heh.

Quick wiki check suggests it may have been more in the 2012-ish range, though. Somewhere around the point toolbar shenanigans started happening. Why, though, I can't see easy explanation with the (very little) amount of looking I'm willing to do. Can only imagine it went the way of the ad and the owners were seduced by the sweet lure of dosh.

No, you forgot to plug something you sell to make the conspiracy go away/less of a problem.

Dumbass.
Wouldn't you just know it, I got a helluva' thing here. Specially trained burmese cobras, able to turn a hundred square foot radius into a dying ground for gay frogs. You come to me and we can cut these FEMA bastards' plan off right at the spigot.

Look, look. Specially trained, man. You'll be fine, and those slimy crooked legged shitsuckers won't get a foothold in your neighborhood. Trust me here, I just need a little bit to cover transportation costs, and then you'll be golden.

No rage thread, but this works. Just had to go over to fix my mother's computer because some chucklefuck decided to remove Malwarebytes and install AVG and she didn't notice for six months where that bloatware dogshit was on her system.
... the wording there makes me ask. Did it take her six months to notice AVG was there, or did she spend six months repeatedly missing where the program's files/means of uninstallation were? Because that reads like she spent six months failing to find out what folder AVG had been put in.

Honestly, probably not much. Certainly not even remotely as much as, say, the US market does. Whatever making it has good odds of still turning a profit, if that's what they're after.

Most prescription style stuff is very, very cheap so far as actual cost of production goes. If you don't factor out the R&D costs, it's still cheap, just less cheap. There's exceptions, but most of it just... isn't. The base materials for most of this stuff generally isn't exactly hard to come by or process.

The markup is about a bunch of other shit, including hitting the patient's metaphorical pound of flesh like a strip mine into a moutaintop, that doesn't really have much to do with whatever the medication itself is.

I never know how intentional it is.

Reading thing. Bottom of page, ad.

"MADE with LOVE"
"BAKED WITH BOB'S"

Graphic bits are mostly just a pair of largely normally attired women that appear to be wrapping their hands around something. Can't actually see what, but that's roughly the gesture.

For those that don't realize quite what's going on there, BOB can be an acronym for Battery Operated Boyfriend, i.e. a vibrator. And, like.

Did they not realize when they chose the name of whatever they are what that would look like? Or did they, and went with it anyway? Was this naivety, or did someone actually want to make an advertisement with the unstated subtext of "We baked this with oscillating fake dicks."

Why do people keep doing this. I don't want to contemplate silicon schlong in a pie this early in the morning. It's almost noon, but it's still too early for this shit.

'Course, that trick wouldn't be nearly as effective if it wasn't healthcare, heh. Coffee show or whatev' can do that, and people can just shrug their shoulders and not buy until the price turns sane. Prescriptions (medical care in general, really), well. Lot of those you try that and you die.

When I was talking about that 10-20 base I was talking about generics, heh. There's certain ones that are cheaper, but most I've seen are still in that range or higher. Even with generics breaking a de facto or de jure monopoly over a substance that sees shit like shkreli happen, it doesn't do much to stop providers from looking at each other and going, "Heee~ey. Maybe we all agree to not go lower, eh?" Not like their consumers can wait until someone not in on it manages to break into production.

Why is there no outrage over it costing 13.50 in the first place? The pill costs 40 cents in the Netherlands. It's almost as if your health department / insurance negotiator / whomever it is that sets healthcare prices really hates people with hiv.
Mostly 'cause 13.50 is frankly kinda' cheap for prescriptions stateside. Insurance can bring it down lower so far as the direct consumer's cost goes, but stuff that that has a base price under 10-20 per whatever the standard bit is isn't terribly common.

Do remember, mart, that the US healthcare system is fucked up, particularly price wise. Whatever you view as sanity in your netherlands, eject it from your nethers before you attempt to apply it to the US. Its place here is as the dreaming promises of the underside of a nickel whore's skirt, the reality of which is a thing not of splendor.

Eh? Wait, for youtube? Kinda' don't really care about its UI (coloring, anyway)... usually if I'm watching anything it's fullscreen, so I don't have to deal with it terribly much. Was talking about MPC -- the version I had was using your kinda' basic windows color scheme, which is to say mostly white and grey. The one that's newer defaults to darker colors. Which is nice.

... actually reminds me I've never got around to trying to finagle the color scheme on this computer into something more soothing than the vista default. Might try doing that soonish. I swear, if I had inclination and capability towards making malware, I would have spent the last decade infesting the world with malicious code that renders about half the color spectrum unable to be rendered or somethin'. Death to bright colors, fie unto the pastel, all praise the soothing dimness.

Whatever branch of MPC I'm using (BE seems to be the one that's working best, of what I just dug out of the internet) lets you just stick the video URL in it and let 'er rip.

Half frustration, but youtube finally appearing to pretty much hard cut off flash (i.e. the only thing they seemed willing to use that ran worth a damn on this computer, HTML5 playback being a heaping pile of dung without the material benefits of being fertilizer) has ended up getting me to finally getting around to taking the roughly five seconds* it took to figure out how to play their shtick in an external player.

Which is the happy part. This... this is nice. Probably should have done it a long time ago. Now all I have to do is figure out how to consistently force its quality choice and I'll be in pretty good shape.

* After spending several minutes getting my player(s, now) in order, anyway. Looks a lot like I may have not updated the primary vid player I was using (some version of MPC) since around... 2012. Now I'm using a newer version of some sort of MPC, that isn't old enough to start considering pre-school. The world is a new and strange place with far better contrast sod off white UI elements

... only over a hundred? I think I may actually be over three hundred between opera, firefox, and opera on the tablet, right now. It's more up there than it's generally trended towards in the past, anyway.

Amusingly enough, while I think I've gotten mildly better about the tabs I have open in one browser, I'm also now generally flipping between three different ones, so the net effect...

7124
Probably!

... to be completely honest, I don't actually remember exactly what an elk is, or if there's any difference between one and a moose and a BUBM. I've just been throwing out the word and letting it stick to whatever it sticks to for whoever reads it.

Is why ceding elk and moose and basically everything related to them is real easy. Got no clue which ones they are and I don't really care if or how badly I'm getting it wrong :V

Lelwut frumple, Elk live primarily in the northern parts of the US, you'd find them in Yellowstone for example. Ditto Alaska and the whole of Canada.
You'll note that, while I have been from east to west coast and back in this country, I've never personally been further north than north carolina -- I got family all the way up (NY), but if there's elk around the areas they're in I rather imagine the elk apocalypse descending on NYC would have hit the news by now. Misk would have at least mentioned the regular elk dodging, at least. Critters might as well not exist for all they've interacted with basically anything I have. Elk are like wyoming. No one's where they are to tell you they exist.

You may also be interested in a population map of the country, so that you may compare the rest of it to what isn't in the northern wilderness-y bits :P
