It's come up. It's also a hilarious pile of horse shit. Folks have checked the numbers, and trans spending in the military tops out at round 8.4 million total for the highest accounting possible, for everything medical (or at all, can't quite remember that one) transgender soldier related. The cheerful reference point being used is that military spending on medication for erectile dysfunction is around 84 million.

Which is to say the military could save around ten times as much as everything they spend on transgender care if they stopped buying viagra.

That cost is the actual issue is real damn hard to defend, basically.

and ninja'd goddamnit screw it have the numbers

Note that wet heat is only truly unpleasant if you are not acclimated to it. Much like cold, for that matter. I only get the "cooking alive" feeling past 40C (and especially past 45C), while Sergarr feels that at 27, which, to me, is an extremely pleasant temperature.

However, since I am used to high humidity, dry climates of any kind are pure undiluted hell to me.
Not even remotely true, heh. Least not necessarily. I've been in florida almost all my life, and similar temps but dry air is comparatively heaven. Have about as much trouble going out in shorts and t-shirt when it's 100+F as I do when it's around 0, ha. Cooking alive feeling starts somewhere in the mid seventies, heh, though the mild end of it (stuff's a gradient, kinda' like the thing claiming alaskans have a metaphorical billion different words for snow). "I will kill you if it stops this" shows up somewhere in the upper nineties. That one's mostly a binary thing, though, that continues up to the point there's no response because I've stroked out and am now unconscious. Goddamn florida.

Mostly I just wish the air would stay around sixty five. If it took ritual murder to do that, I would unfortunately be enjoying the weather in a jail cell. Half sure I'm not even joking. I'm dubious I'd stop at much if it made the air quit trying to kill me. hell, maybe that could be spun as a self-defense claim? "I murdered those fifty people because they were collaborating with the atmosphere to try to kill me."

Might be pretty explicitly, even. Tweet with the main bit in a pic full of text stated to come from a trump admin critter, but to transcribe that bit:
Quote from: From a Trump Administration Official
"This forces Democrats in Rust Belt states line Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, to take complete ownership of this issue. How will the blue collar voters in these states respond when senators up for re-election in 2018 like Debbie Stabenow are forced to make their opposition to this a key plank of their campaigns?"

Much salt as ever considering it's not directly sourced, but if nothin' else it very much looks like somethin' you'd expect to see coming out of a GOP political strategist. Though I can think of more than one way that might not turn out like they seem to be hoping, heh. Particularly in the bits of the rust belt that'll be rusting just as fast as they were last year.

Mattis isn't even at work right now. Dude's on vacation, apparently. Likelihood is high the mentions of consulting military higher ups is a flat fucking lie.

Interesting to see Heller and Moran there, and not McCain or Capito. Still, these are now the "Usual suspects" of the Republican Caucus, and I bet you'll be seeing their names more soon. Next votes coming in the next few days I think.
Any case, it's from yesterday, but it probably bears to be mentioned that there's absolutely jack all unusual about mccain voting like that. Pretty much regardless of what comes out of his mouth, his vote is straight party line no matter the level of acidic shit it's pushing. His reputation of being someone more inclined towards opposition to the GOP agenda than your normal senator is pure and near complete bullshit.

Actually never really paid much attention to the guy until recently, and jesus christ what vague inclinations towards a sliver of respect that might have been there are very, very gone now that I have. Guy's had a good talking game but his actions and whatnot have been about as vile and craven as any of your more malicious GOP congresscritters. Dude just kinda' ain't good people.

E: Heh, and vis a vis the trans stupidity there's apparently reports rolling in that the pentagon's basically saying, "We have no idea what the hell that guy's talking about." in response to inquiries. Standard trump administration, I guess.

How common is it for Presidents to just fire everyone and hire their own?
Not. A lot of staff does tend to turn over during transitions, but quite a lot also tends to stick around either for an extended period or just period. More or less everyone getting canned and replaced really just kinda' hasn't happened much. As the repeated refrain goes, most of our previous presidents haven't been willing to act quite that stupidly.

One of the more unusual parts of the mess with the white house has been the amount of seasoned officials and staff that had largely just been doing their job for years/decades/etc. that got shat on and kicked out. No small part to why much of the administration is having the troubles it is. Fewer people with less expertise and/or experience dealing with the same amount of duties is a recipe for hilarity, and not the funny ha ha sort.

You would be shocked to learn how rarely this bites. Much more often, every company hurtles over the same cliff out of fear that they are missing out of a competitive advantage.
I really wouldn't be :P

Still, at least at the moment I'm pretty sure the difference is both egregious enough and new enough you wouldn't see the effect. Another twenty, thirty years and the technology matures and cheapens and I wouldn't be quite as close to approaching confident, heh.

And it may be, desc. Don't have a smart phone and only half-way pay attention to app junk due to having a tablet, so it's entirely possible I just haven't noticed that kind of thing starting the chug forward full steam ahead.

Well as can be expected, really. Ain't really the hallucinatory aspect that's terribly troublesome, exactly, just that it's having trouble stabilizing. Somewhat upsetting compared to previous weeks/months, but on the whole until it gets seriously out of line it's probably not going to bother me much. I've been hallucinating 24/7 my entire life, this is just a new sort, heh.

... a new sort that I don't enjoy nearly as much as the old sort it's started supplementing, but still. Multi-decade veteran of seeing shit what ain't there.

And yeah, tension could do it. Also possible your eyes are starting to weaken (or weaken more). Been starting to get headaches almost certainly caused by that myself in the last... month or two. Really need to get around to having a checkup...

Anyway, just be sure to keep an eye on it and hit up a doc if it persists and/or intensifies, yeh. Probably ain't no thang but you generally don't want to screw around with persistent head pains. Brainmeats be important, yo'.

Eh, generally the chips considered here aren't even remotely near high level tracking mechanisms, nor will they be any time soon. They're mostly just fancy security cards at this point, except you don't have to dig it out of your pocket or whatev' when it's time to go through a check. Roughly the same shit we put in chip enabled credit cards and junk.

We have a lot of the tech needed for a subdermal chip able to track basically everything, up to and including geolocation and health readings and shopping habits and whatnot, but that shit is hella' more expensive than anyone is going to spend to keep track of some schlep down in marketing. Or at least anyone sane and/or intending to stay in business, because doing so would be a notable competitive disadvantage vis a vis employee costs and mean your less stupid fellow companies will pull ahead of you, bit by bit.

It's possible that'll change at some point in the future, but that point in the future is pretty solidly guaranteed to not come until someone figures out a way to make high function subdermal chips and their installation and maintenance cheaper than the same thing except not stuck in fleshy bits.

... won't lie, I'd rather imagine what's going to happen faster is an app (template) of some sort that does all of the stuff HR/upper admin/marketing wants done, except the employee shoulders the cost of installation (i.e. buys and keeps running an applicable smart phone) if they want to get and stay hired.

Yeah, nah, as per mention there definitely is mark of the beast stuff going on regarding subdermal junk.

That said, US evangelicals being what they are that doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be opposed. Gotta' get them fowl lined up for that there apocalypse, y'know?

I'unno, generally if it more or less necessarily takes bleeding to remove somethin' you've gone pretty far past clothing. Like, I can sorta' see what you're saying, but generally folks tend to take something of a red line approach where things go piecemeal up unto a point and then the shanks come out if you keep going. Even relatively minor surgery tends to be in the knifing zone.

Probably not a joke, heh. Not necessarily, but there's been a bit more solidification of the tech behind subdermal stuff in the last few years. We'll almost certainly be seeing it start to pop up from place to place within a decade, maybe two or three. Even beyond whatever the wisconsin thing may or may not be, I coulda' sworn there's a few places that have done/are doing general use trial runs already.

Less certain is whether it'll actually become particularly pervasive. The things don't really offer all that much compared to more traditional means of ID for most stuff your average company would give a damn about, and generally less invasive stuff involves less headache, logistic and otherwise.

... that said, the tech developing is definitely something I'd personally call a good thing on the net. Not so much for civilian/normal business use, but for junk like medical monitoring. Family actually used something of that nature just recently, arm patch type thing that periodically monitored blood sugar over the course of a week or so. Stuff like that would kinda' be a bit of a godsend. Lotta' folks have trouble keeping up with manual monitoring of that sort.

Doc check check doc? Could be a lot of thing (sinuses come to mind, ferex), could be nothing, hard to tell. Probably not major, but at the same time head pains and notable cognitive shifts can be indicative of the proverbial Bad Things.

Similar sad, the (non-visual snow) hallucinations seem to be getting somewhat more common/insistent. Waking up from a nap to find the far wall looked like carpet instead of wall kinda' hammered that in a little harder than normal. Fortunately still largely harmless and minor, but it's a bit unfortunate given it had been pretty steady since they started happening.

All things considered I'd be happier knowing if the unidentifiable insect critter occasionally digging through the wall is or is not actually there. Wall staying the same shape and all, all the time instead of most of the time, would be nice, too, really.

On the plus (?) side, I guess I have a better idea of whether I would particularly enjoy hallucinogens, now. As with opioids, the answer is apparently "No, not really." The snow's alright and dreaming isn't too bad, but anything beyond that looks to be a bit of sensory fuckery I would really prefer to not deal with.

I'unno, anyone know if the betting critters are placing odds on a default? What they look like/are trending towards if it does exist would be neat to know, too.

Today, a good one, maybe two or more, hundred or so staples (and an indefinite but smaller number of nails, screws, and similar such objects) later, I now viscerally understand the (very literal) pain of the dorm managers that first decided to forbid college students from hanging anything on the walls that would leave a mark.

There was a point (yesterday) where my soul was naive enough to think no one could be so amazingly goddamn stupid as to consider a nail gun and construction staples to be appropriate choices for sticking any and every thing desired to the walls of a residence they didn't own.

I have been disabused of that notion, this day.

Cultural inclination either towards related/supporting precepts (individualism, gov't distrust, etc.) or against possible mitigating ones (acceptance of welfare, etc.), mostly. Outside of the whole -infrastructure is here thus more infrastructure- thing, using infrastructure in a political/population sort of sense, anyway. Bit of a lean towards being more accepting about being obnoxiously obvious about holding a particular lean than a lot of places, too.

Alternatively, they're the largest single population group that doesn't have fairly severe depressive elements towards the formation (or at least declaration) of the ideological inclination and/or you noticing the demographic exists (e.g. it's not china and it speaks english).
