May still able to get access to the records, mind. Either whoever took over for her or whoever inherited the records are not entirely unlikely to still have 'em around. Can also give a go at contacting anyway; send a snail mail letter or somethin' to make it less intrusive. Apologize for interrupting the retirement, ask if she happens to remember or could direct you to whoever might still have the records, etc. Ain't been stopped yet, just stymied a bit.

... anyway, that feeling when someone asks you to look over some paperwork, and you notice that for the last year or three family has been paying for license plate renewal on a car that's about as much burnt out husk as car. Like, we're not talking "oh, there's some fire damage" we're talking "most of it outright unsalvageable, probably not worth selling for scrap metal". And they were keeping the plate up to date. I kinda' understand (as in, it's been justified to me as that, but I haven't actually checked the net costs involved) there can be reason to do that if you're expecting to get a new vehicle soon-ish and intend to transfer the thing... but it's past soonish by several months, and they have neither the finances nor intention for getting another one. Not without doing stuff that, if they were inclined to, I wouldn't be dealing with this to begin with hoarding behavior can go straight to hell

Seriously need to figure out what to do about this kinda' thing. I'm not in good enough shape to keep overwatch on 'em by with the amount of help I've been getting... especially without power of attorney/full financial access. Rough bit is if this shit keeps up, and it shows no sign of slowing down (rather the opposite), this bunch of the family's probably going to get in a bit of a spat getting that from 'em within a year or two. Folks in question still think they're mostly competent, and that's increasingly becoming less true and more cognitive degeneration causing them to think they are. Double bonus(?) points it's kinda' happening to me, too, with less delusion and more slow building despair :-\

Eh... I haven't even bothered checking what mine are saying on it, honestly. Between one being rubio and the other being D I'd be mildly surprised if I couldn't kinda' guess the thrust of things (ten pounds of bullshit in a half pound chamberpot, something with a general sentiment of recommending to his GOP senate peers they sodomize themselves with a rusty railroad spike, respectively) without actually reading it. If the GOP ends up trying a runaround on the CBO and then shove-through shenanigans afters, I might get around to it just so I can mail that rat bastard rubio a letter filled top to bottom with properly selected invective.

And the discussion on it will last only 20 hours! NO DEBATING just pass it!
It'd be rather unfortunate for everyone if that happened, methinks. Especially the Rcritter on the senate that stated publicly they'd be sending it to the CBO before continuing.

7338
... huh. Apparently the senate's released their version of the healthcare travesty? Tentative reactions I'm noticing seem to be suggesting it's... largely what the house had. Which is somewhat concerning, bleh.

7339
Eh, trying to post-hoc justify your actions is fairly human in general...

... that said, there's post-hoc justification and then there's whatever the blazes that was. What made me boggle at that statement the most was the "Want child safe, must put bullets into vehicle" bit. Like, what the ever loving hell leads someone to thinking the best way to alleviate that danger is to fire bullets in the kid's general direction? Escalate to firing at all? Did this guy not know about goddamn ricochet, just to start? Misfire, chance of the other person having a gun, any of the things that could have caused? Just watching folks drive, I know we fail our countryfolk at teaching physics pretty hard, but th'hell are we paying these chucklefucks for if they can't even manage the basic shooting safety I've seen taught to goddamn twelve year olds?

I'unno if that's worth two bads, but a single one... maybe. Gods know if our justice system wasn't quite so screwed up when it comes to cops that would be something like criminal negligence and some level of manslaughter at minimum. Though I guess at least we're apparently not paying him anymore, at least for the time being. Who knows if he'll be rehired, either in the same area once the news dies down or a different precinct.

Also, it wasn't even pot when it came to that second-hand thing. How many tobacco smokers have kids, again? Apparently it indicates such a reckless disregard for human life to justify shooting first. I guess it's another reason to quit...?

Though mind, it could help jobless if folks felt like changing that bit. Don't have to be above the cutoff point for tax filing to file anyway. Actually tends to be a pretty good idea, since if you're that low it's fairly likely you'll be able to mitigate some of whatever taxes or related stuff you did run into over the course of the year.

Ahaha, you don't know the meaning of shit. That's only marginally worse than the best I can manage by hand, never mind using a stylus.

It's actually reached the point I'm not even trying to make my signature legible anymore. I've stopped trying to even make letters. It's just a line of loopy scribbles with some bits and bobs on it to fool people into thinking I'm trying to put a t or i or something down.

They did get the vote out. The problem is that, with all the publicity and whatnot for this special election, so did the Republicans.
And even with that, turned a 20 something point red area into a (sub-?)5 if not purple than close enough it barely matters one.

People (hell, myself included, I didn't pick up on it until a day or three ago) seem to like to forget special elections generally only happen in extremely safe districts. Winning would have been a coup, but getting that close isn't something to downplay, either.

7343
why is this still going on in this thread

this has less than fuck all to do with american politics almost always, and none of you seem to have brought up an exception actually relevant to the present and if you did you're damn sure not actually talking about it

you're all very pretty, but please take this to some other thread

jerks made me think something interesting had happened while I was asleep, but nooooo, no morning events of interest for frumple to make up for being awake at five in the goddamn morning *shakes fist*

And in the real world, those things don't exist.
Yeah, ree, hate to break it to you, but they actually exist. It's called company policy and behavior standards, for example, and it gets your ass kicked out the building if you start spouting shit the management doesn't like. The real world does, in fact, have many, many areas where your speech is limited de facto or de jure. You can call them whatever the blazes you want, but it boils down to the same thing.

Amusingly enough, if you want to continue that line of concept torture, you could easily say colleges indulging in safe space related stuff actually are preparing people for the real world, where sometimes you have to keep your mouth shut on any number of subjects when in a specific area, or keep out :V

7345
Yeah. Shame, it would have been more interesting with a loss or close margin.

... though it'll be a bigger one if it turns out those shooting ads were the deciding factor. Lotta' folks in the US don't exactly want another nail put in the coffin of even vague attempts at a principled runoff.

Respect, maybe, sure. But respect wasn't what was on the table :P

No. Wanting worship is not in itself a bad thing. Demanding it is.
... no, no, I'm pretty sure wanting worship pretty much is a bad thing in itself. Attention or respect or somethin' maybe not so much, but there's rather a difference. You desire that kind of adulation for whatever reason, to some degree there's somethin' gone wrong.

7348
Yeah, right to work's basically it. The grounds to achieve wrongful termination in those places are pretty specific.

7349
This is the only legal answer you should listen to, because it's the only one with a minimal chance of biting you in the ass: Ask an actual lawyer familiar with your state's laws. If my memory's failing again, and you're outside the U.S., replace state with whatever applicable lowest scale of jurisdiction you're under. Whatever statement other than that, general or specific, any of us can give, can become completely off base depending on the state of your local legislature. To a one, they will all be fundamentally bad advice unless for some bloody weird reason someone that's licenced for practice in your area shows up -- and then it may be even more likely to be terrible, because a lawyer giving legal advice online on a random forum and in response to that much information is what can be colloquially called "fuckstupid".

More asspully, I'd be willing to wager a very small amount of non-money it would largely hinge on your area's stance regarding at-will employment. If your lot's on board with it, and they probably are state side, you very likely won't have grounds for shit because they can fire you for any reason, including none, and the only legal recourse you would have is if they're doing it for reasons discriminatory towards a protected class. And the leniency patterns towards a single person not you is almost certainly not going to be enough to prove that was the motivation for your firing, especially if it's prefixed by you starting to do stuff people are normally fired over.

General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

Also, I have a theory that it's harder to hear bad acting in other languages. Maybe I just tune out the voice when I'm reading subs, though.
Nah, I'm like 90% sure that's true. If you're not familiar enough with a language to pick out certain things being off, it's harder to tell if someone's screwing up. Are they mispronouncing or stumbling over every third word? Is it a dialect, affectation intentional or otherwise? Hell if you know, and things can be better than way.
