... except that saying that islam doesn't correspond to 99% of the population's beliefs is so hella' wrong it actually is a lie by just about any metric you care to use. Saying that the folks making that claim are white supremacists is a pretty decent attempt at guessing why they believe it. Might be factually wrong at the end of the day, but positing the root cause is that ain't dumb by many measures of it I've seen.

There's significantly more similarities between islam and christianity than there are differences, and by extension that puts it in line with quite a lot of this country religious and not.

E: Though to be clear, the devil's in the details and exceptions more than commonalities. Only problem there is we legislated various degrees of acceptance or protection for a lot of those exceptions long before muslim was a word most of the population even really knew the basic nature of. Harping on a lot of them (if not all) kinda' falls flat when stuff like 14 year old marriages and crap were legalized for christian denominations.

E2: Though largely unrelated to that, apparently the PR referendum is currently looking extremely inclined towards statehood, with something in the upper 90% with about half the vote counted. Participation in vote's also apparently low as hell, but... still. It's looking a lot like we're going to have a petition to put another star on our flag coming up in the very near future.

Sure there are. Second largest state level population in the country. Is why I specified florida instead of looking at new york and laughing at the concept the GOP gives a shit about it or the dems have use of courting minorities in the area more than their general policies et al already do.

I'unno, and I don't recall at the moment 'cause applicable populations basically aren't where I live, but I think a question that might decide how the GOP in particular (given attempts to court the cuban/etc. vote in recent years), but both parties to a degree, would jump, is "How do minority populations in florida feel about PR statehood". Maybe another state or two that's potentially effected and not, y'know, New York.

General Discussion / Re: UK Snap Election Thread - Darth May
« on: June 11, 2017, 09:55:23 am »
I wonder how many of the problems/issues Theresa May had mirror that of Hillary Clintons loss? Obviously there are plenty of differences, starting with staff not seeing that perhaps the candidate was the problem, but there are parallels for sure...
Eehh, if you stretch things really, really hard. Clinton's closer to corbyn than she is to may personality or campaign wise, from what I can tell, and not a particularly close match for either. From what I've been picking up it kinda' sounds like may was closer to romney or something in the Obama election(s), really though I also wouldn't even remotely put corbyn anywhere near obama, so... yeah.

E: Though comparisons like that are kinda' off, mind. For all may screwed up, the cons are still the largest single party on the block and expanded their share of the national vote, even as they lost seats. There's not really a POTUS election that went quite like that, that I can recall.

E2: Though it did just occur to me that corbyn's thing is possibly closer to trump than anyone, which would indeed put a parallel to clinton for may. The cons expanded their amount of popular support (by a fairly small degree, but it was still there), but lost a sizable chunk of their actual positions. So far as the popular will goes on the net, may just presided over a conservative gain (popular vote), but lost majority control (EC vote) despite it. It's not even remotely a good comparison to make, because these are really not systems similar enough to be comparing things like that and there are only significantly notable similarities between the four politicians if you squint real hard and ignore a hell of a lot, but... still. I could see the argument being made, from that angle.

Generally speaking, some of those demos are probably a proof-of-concept for the title before the full work starts. And it'd probably be a shame to just throw something like that in the trash, so why not use it?
Oh, sure. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it was bad practice or whatever. If you have good assets there ain't much problem in using 'em, and in particular demo/trailer stuff being integrated into the main game is a nice bone toss to the more dedicated fans. Quite often hear folks playing through a game mention appreciation for seeing preview material once again and/or more fleshed out. Good hook, good follow through (assuming the quality is good, anyway, ha).

Ever get the impression that game developers will create an E3 demo for a game before they finish the game, and then cram the demo into the actual game?
Game devs making a demo during development and integrating it into the finished game has been a thing for basically ever. Not just an E3 thing, that's been common for games for most of computer (and console, for that matter) gaming's history. So yeah, of course they do. That's been normal for longer than some devs have been alive, heh.

45-55 is middle aged actually, with old generally seen as over 60 and pegged as 65+ specifically in most developed countries.

"If they buy it, more will come." If the people are willing to pay for investigators with an ass for a face, then butt detectives they will have. though I do realize that was probably a joke. It's often fun to answer anyway :V

Eh... that depends on the complexity and whatnot. Generally older players (which tend to be who play older stuff, far as I know) are more chill, but sometimes they... aren't. Particularly when idiot scrubs are crapping up their nice clean murder exchange.

7480
Comey, probably never, but mueller... well, that might be a different story. Probably still going to be a bit if it's going to happen and would almost certainly just be parts of it, though.

7481
... gods, populist idiot actually a deep cover <something> bent on undermining a country is going to become more of a thing in the near future, isn't it?

7482
Aliens man, aliens. If they're there, they'd have the means to make people unable to talk about them. Not even trump can defeat the power of extraterrestrial dialogue blockers. For those that believe, this does not mean Area 51 doesn't exist, just that they're not sharing their technology with trump's support staff :V

7483
I mean... sorta'? But also sorta' not. The end word on that would be SCOTUS, not the executive branch, and congress et al could have a go at it, too (though it'd end up in the courts to decide if screwup has actually occurred). You could call it a right, but it's not an unconditional one, for all that to date we haven't really had a president inept enough to test it.

E: Or to clarify it a bit, there's actually very, very little the executive branch -- any of it, up to and including the president -- decides the legality of. They can decide what it means to enforce that legality (to a degree, anyway), but not what it is. That particular function belongs primarily to the legislative and secondarily to the judiciary.

7484
Eh... I'unno if I'd actually be entirely comfortable saying he has the right, desc. Those are generally fairly unconditional until they start bumping into people with similar rights. The power, definitely, but the presidential powers are granted in the context of improving or maintaining the USA's well being. If they're invoked in such a way as to work against that (such as, say, blabbing state secrets to all and sundry), shirk the responsibilities involved, or wield them for personal benefit... well, that's some of the possible qualifiers for impeachment, right there. Maybe more, too, if someone was getting really frisky and the SCOTUS had caffeine IVs on hand.

... though yeah, improper relations with a subordinate is indeed something to be sketchy about pretty much regardless of context. That's one of the more damning bits from comey's testimony, ahaha.

7485
Though mind, as an addendum to that, that "lie" was the exact sort that trump and friends have been rolling in pretty much since day one. Very specifically worded in an attempt to get around the precise phrasing of the involved laws, materially deceptive despite it.

There was apparently a point in my life that was impeachment worthy :V
