That "making it easier to be a healthcare worker" is key here. Because from a commodity standpoint, there is no reason to keep enough staff around to treat everyone, just so long as the people they do treat pay, and it becomes profitable
Psst, hey. Want to know one straightforward way to make things easier to be a healthcare worker? Get rid of most to all of private health insurance, so they're not incessantly bogged down by dealing with fifty billion competing, different, sets of paperwork and asshole companies trying to avoid paying them for services rendered :V

We know for a fact millions to billions of the dollars draining into our healthcare system is getting pissed away dealing with the (intentionally!) ever more complicated paperwork private health insurance foists on all of us in an attempt to fuck people over for profit, and every dime of that has a cost in human hours that could be spent doing something more useful.

Calculus is pretty clear; fuckers fucking with the rest of us, so fuck 'em, screw the private health insurance industry into a pitiful ghost of its current corpsesucking self :P

Why is it called "clop" fic tho? Is it just the sound of the hooves?
Yeah, basically. As far as I'm aware it was adopted because the word is fairly close to fap in both spelling and (in this specific usage) intent, except hoofs because, well. Hooves.

E: Infinite english hatefact of the day: Both hoofs and hooves is a legitimate pluralization of hoof.

Remember folks, english hates you and wants you to suffer!

I'unno rol, even when google was side tracking my search into silly things like non-typo'd beards, I don't think I saw anything that classified as a bear, at least as I remember the term being. They're supposed to be kinda' short and more hirsute, everything google was showing me was just normal beardpeople, nothing bear-adjacent. It was disappointing even on that level, never mind actually styled non-human ursines.

In other wtfs mild upset...edness?, I can never decide if it's supposed to be nevermind or never mind, and as far as I've noticed english hates all of us and doesn't actually care. Nevermind looks more correct to my eyes (and is less typing!), but firefox's spellchecker complains about it. Part of me wants to settle into some sort of consistency regarding it (even if the most likely candidate for that consistency is "intentionally alternate between the two"), but most of me is in full too-much-effort-to-care,embrace-chaos mode. Just make sure to occasionally switch between the two and I'm sure it'll work out eventually.

I mean, there are studies out there putting sugar or salt or something at around the same addictiveness as cocaine. Maybe the capital's just where all the good cooks live :P

755
Kudos for giving it a go, ahaha.

... AI bears don't have quite the same je ne sais quoi, but it's also far less likely to involve bears maiming someone for coming at them with trimmers, so it probably evens out somewhere in there.

i see the reference to horses counting with their feet and

all i can think is you've invented the programming equivalent of (for all that don't know what this means, my best, most sincere suggestion: don't look it up, you're better off not knowing) a clop fic

the second, more unfortunate, think, is if that makes the subject verboten on b12 due to being my little pony adjacent

757
It's really, really mild, but a typo inspired google search for neatly trimmed bears came up with nothing relevant. No one seems to have neatly trimmed a bear, or if they did, there was no photo evidence of it (... also possibly no survivors). Great disappointment, it is.

I... think that's backwards, in this case? The cat was notably brighter than the dog was. Like, its eyeballs were glowing.

Well, that's something I can't remember ever having done before, and it's... kinda' creepy.

Turns out if you put a flashlight (that's on, if it wasn't obvious) against a cat's cheek, the closest eye to that cheek lights up from the inside. Y'know, like it does for your thumb or whatever except it's an eye socket. Cat didn't seem to mind, but...

E: Also, having now checked, it doesn't have the same effect on at least the dog I've got, dunno about other breeds. Like, the skin around the eye does the light-up-from-inside thing, but... not basically the whole eye socket. Apparently something about feline eye structure makes the effect particularly unsettling on cats.

*shrugs* I mean, you don't have to predict all that much? Folks have been able to see what subscription numbers and whatnot are doing (trending downwards :V), and considering what's been going on in regards to the checkmark, that's pretty unsurprising. When you turn a useful service into a not useful service that doubles as an indicator you got grifted by a jackass, usage of that service tends to drop, heh.

So, now Musk wants to turn Twitter into a VKontakte by giving "verified" users the ability to upload 2-hour-long videos.

Yay! Knowing how "well" Elon's Twitter moderates content, I expect a flood of pirated content followed by lawsuits.  Oh. And pedo porn. A lot of pedo porn
I mean, that's actively happening now, yes. The pirated content, the lawsuits, and the spike in CSAM on the platform.

... far as I can recall that all happened even before the longer form videos started getting allowed, though, somewhere in the wake of the dumbshit firing most of the moderation staff. Actions have consequences sometimes, weird how that works :V

And I consider myself "one of the 'A's in LGBTQIAA++", so I'm not sure GRSM is inclusive of me. I'm being oppressed!
The As would pretty straightforwardly fall under romantic (aro) or sexual (ace) minority, wouldn't it? Unless there's a third sort of A out there.

It'd be in the sense that atheism is a position on theistic belief... which there's argument about at times from various strains of atheist, but it's probably close enough for general use.

I keep wanting to default to LGBT* (i.e. wildcard), really. Usually end up with etc. instead, just 'cause of how poorly asterisk as a wildcard works in communication, due to how often it's used to indicate footnotes, too.

There's days I'm kinda' disappointed GSRM/GRSM (Gender, Romantic, and Sexual Minorities) didn't catch on, though I suspect it's 'cause it's a little too broad. Could probably fix it slapping a "consensual" in there somewhere, but eh.

El jibbity's a fine compromise, though.

Probably too worried about other stuff to care, really.

... anyway, I can't remember where I saw it, but iirc someone went and checked on actual florida people's opinion on the whole disney shitting on deshitis thing, and the majority of the responses basically boiled down to "what?". Most folks knew about it about as much as they cared about it, which is to say they didn't. Opinion among residents actually aware of it was generally negative overall, and only somewhat positive even among conservatives.

So, like. It's not going great for the jackass down here on that particular issue, ha.

Yeah, I'll echo trying to look out for yourself as well as you can. I wasn't the one directly responsible for a lot going on on the medical/financial side, but I was adjacent to it and the primary caregiver with my grandparents, who... weren't as bad, but at least partially only because I was there for the last five or six years of their lives.

It put me on blood pressure meds to stop from dying, and there were points I moved personal knives and shit out of my room just to get the temptation out of sight. Those last years can be fucking rough, and they get progressively worse straight through the end. Do what you got to do to feel alright by yourself, but also try not to let it ruin you in the process. It ain't an easy balance to manage, though.

I don't regret it, personally, but it's also fairly likely the whole mess has cut my life expectancy to like 50, heh. Maybe I make it another 15 years or so, but I'm increasingly doubtful of it...
