His party won't do shit so far as censure goes, to be frank. I'm not entirely sure the GOP is even capable of it, at this point, much less willing to do more than offer half-arsed condemnation with no functional component and the integrity of loose sand. If the critter's getting elected the GOP doesn't particularly give a fuck what they're saying or doing, even beyond what's normal for a political organization.

To be what fair is possible, part of that's just due to the nature of american political parties. Anyone can claim to be republican, or democrat, or god's munificent third testicle, or whatever. Doesn't mean a political party can actually do much about them.

Though @baff, our infrastructure is indeed fairly vulnerable, but it's also goddamn huge. Vital things can be slow and finicky to replace and it not actually make much of a difference if the pool of resources being drawn from large enough. If someone's managing to do significant and lasting damage to our infrastructure, they've probably already effectively occupied parts of the country and we'd be looking at bigger problems than idle sabotage campaigns.

It's like the good old days all over again, except a lot easier to get the patches! Also to find out ahead of time. Less likely to attempt to wipe your hard drive. All sorts of things, really. It's like nothing has changed except everything about the process has become more convenient :V

Which may be the point, but still. Can't recall if there's ever been a time in PC gaming where buying at launch wasn't speculative. The history of gaming is, in part, the history of spectacular day 1 bugs. And day 200 bugs. And day NaN, 'cause the devs or their overlords dropped that mess like it was hot for whatever (money, effort, money) reason.

... for the latter, there's actually several different styles of WC3/SC2 custom map that indulges. Off the top of my head you might check out probe vs zealot or evolve in the SC2 arcade (bonus points, the starcraft arcade went F2P a year or three back, so it's costless other than the 20 gigs or so of HD space), hunters vs. farmers in WC3 (if I'm not misremembering the names, anyway). Buncha' stuff like that, variations on similar themes... want to say the general style was usually referred to as runner or tag based maps, but I never really played the things and couldn't say for sure. Lot of zombie related maps that largely work that way, too, though they tend to make early engagement not quite so deadly.

Basically if you're looking for that sort of early game instakill/late game god mode style of thing you might want to dig around warcraft 3 or starcraft 2... maybe DotA 2, too,* and the player made content/custom maps/modes specifically. Might take some finagling to get a WC3 game going, though. Still a playerbase faffing around, but think it's more through 3d party type stuff nowadays.

* Know there's been conversion and tentative work with custom map type junk since they opened up the editor et al, but haven't been paying attention and can't say how far along it is.

... honestly, I can't really think of any. Most of the stuff that'd approach it aren't so much unliked as unknown (Chaos Seed, ferex). Guess... maybe Black Sigil? Or at least value it a bit abnormally high, compared to what seemed to be the normal response. Encounter rate and being somewhat clunky in places seemed to have turned some folks off (or at least down), but it was... nice. Loved the intro/tutorial island bit, which hooked me for what else of it I played. Main character just got sequentially shat on, metaphorically, to a degree it was pretty hilarious. Rest of it largely just pretty well put together, iirc. Never did finish it, though...

Wait, wait, shit. GBA, that Lufia game everyone seems to hate. Ruins of Lore, now that I check. I liked that one. Monster collecting, the dungeon whatsit, found the art style fairly appealing and the battles surprisingly engaging. Can't remember the plot but it wasn't about the plot. Reviews and aggregate scoring and whatnot don't seem to devalue it much, but I don't think I've ever actually seen it mentioned without a <it doesn't exist, shut up> sort of addendum.

General Discussion / Re: Do you own firearms?
« on: May 28, 2017, 09:30:19 pm »
Only one that's actually mine is an old (and by old, I mean it's over a century old) .22 rifle, inherited. Own it for that reason, on top of the potential selling opportunity if things got sketchy enough. Last I checked on it it's still in fairly good shape, and you can usually get a pretty decent price for an antique rifle, particularly if it's still in working condition.

Been a while since I used it, though. Last time I fired anything not air-propelled was a year or three back, for a concealed carry course whatsit. Opportunity's there, since while I only own the one there's like a dozen or three (mixed rifle, shotgun, and handgun of various makes) I have easy access to, on top of family that's aware of where the local ranges are if for whatever reason I wanted to mess around with something fancier. Just not really interested these days. Don't hunt, far too aware of the statistics when it comes to self-defense, most use I'm likely to have any time soon is possible snake killing or somethin', and that don't exactly need rust shook off to manage. Or much in the way of firepower really. Killed a few rattlers et al over the years just with a BB gun, heh. Target/skeet shooting's interesting enough, but it also involves outside and money, with the former being miserable in this goddamn swamp and the latter scarce enough at th'mo spending it on ammo is... kinda' stupid, if you're not going to hunt with it.

Fair bit more active with the things when I was younger, though. Still didn't hunt (most wild game tastes kinda' nasty to me for whatever reason, and pure sports hunting is an abomination), but more leisure shooting, occasional skeet et al outings, that sort of thing. Was a'ight. Appeal largely wore off at some point, but it's not a regret or somethin'. Probably get talked into going to a range at some point in the next few years, I'unno. Actually never shot at a proper firing range, now that I think about it. Bummed around an outside police range a bit and some of the stuff at the safety courses I've been to might have counted, plenty of shooting in the woods or clay/sand pits or whatev', but never a commercial range.

Yeah, politics (other than the islamophobia) doesn't come into play here, guy was crazy, violent, and a hater, simple as that.
Eh... politics almost always comes into play with this kind of thing. The atmosphere and environment someone is in shapes their behavior a fair bit, often enough, and actions like the guy took, well. Certain folks in our cultural sphere have been trying to promote and/or normalize a greater degree of violence.

Dunnit mean he wouldn't have still done something of similar nature if we didn't have quite president talking of second amendment rights or a political movement encouraging such and trying to paint their opponents with a similar brush or whatever applicable bout of crap you feel like bringing up, but it likely would have been less likely.

Give a gander for cardioversion aftereffects. Major side effects seem to be relatively rare, but stuff like breathing pains, somewhat irregular heartbeat, and suchlike, seem a bit more common. Near as I can tell, you might be able to get up and move, but you're probably not going to be very happy about it and recommendation is pretty strong to avoid doing much for a couple weeks, as well as no driving for a few days. Doesn't help most methods we have are not exactly unlikely to cause their own damages. Broken ribs from CPR or burns from a fib are things, iirc.

7598
Can't say I do, really. He's been there, there's apparently been some fairly sketchy background we've heard about for a while now that I can't recall the details of right this minute, he's actually capable of interacting with trump regularly enough to marry trump's spawn. About as far as my idly remembered summary goes, that.

7599
Mate, he managed to lose local endorsements earlier today/yesterday. Some of the GOP having the ethical character of a pile of rotten chicken menses is expected, what's going to matter more is the rest of it and the media response. Any case, even if it doesn't entirely sink him with the party itself, the statement was in relation to across the aisle cooperation. At this point, a dem, or most independents, that decided to go down that route would probably be committing electoral suicide.

7600
Don't you have to physically turn up in congress to vote?
Idle check suggests yeah, but it's not like the vote itself is everything involved. Also looks like some congresscritters occasionally manage to arrange things with an opposition member for the one present to abstain, effectively casting a vote by proxy. Probably some other workarounds of one sort or another, I'unno.

... mind you, I somehow doubt sma here could manage that second bit. Rather imagine collusion with the guy is going to be fairly poisonous going forward, never mind the base line issues with that sort of cooperation, particularly in relation to a modern day GOP politician.

7601
Yeah, looks like ser misdemeanor assault ended up winning. It was likely regardless considering something like 7/10ths of the votes had already been cast, iirc, but... still. Here's hoping he gets time for it. I'm kinda' morbidly curious how you work as a representative from inside a jail cell. Would you teleconference or somethin'? What I recall the few times it's happened involved a lot of letter writing, but most of it occurred before a great deal of telecom developments.

In any case, congratulations montana. You are now slated to be represented by someone with so little composure and dignity he would jump a reporter instead of answering a difficult question. Perhaps next election you can find someone in juvie for anger management issues and manslaughter.

Mild curiosity more than interest in playing, but does it actually require the origin version? Pretty sure I actually remember where my RA2 discs are, though gods know if they still work.

... though I guess you just answered that, to a degree. Eh, already typed, might as well post.

7603
Eh, if you really feel like it it's mostly okay to leave something like that out. Probably wouldn't be many situations it'd qualify as formal writing, but it's fairly legit.

7604
The proper spelling is Al, apparently. Makes things easier, but good gods is the pronunciation a nightmare for ESL folks. There's like, up to six or seven syllables in those two letters.

7605
Yeah, at least the communication outside the mess was fairly on point.

Any case, it looks like the fourth circuit has upheld the stay on trump's more recent immigration ban. Seem to remember it going through some other courts during the same period, but in at least that one the verdict came out for keeping the ban dead in the water.
