I suppose I'm lucky, then? A year or so ago part of a major road in town literally exploded due to the Arps plant it was built along, and it was fixed up in a few weeks, good as new. This is pretty consistent with everything else road related around me so
BTW I live in America
Could just be in a good area for it. Alternatively, that bit related to the arps plant may have had something to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised to find a number of the areas prone to perpetual construction contracts are also scarce on major transportation reliant businesses.

Nah. We just gave them hedonism and free time, which meant they had more time to indulge and more incentive to do it for fun.

... most of what they seem to be calling for isn't really "fucking over", though. Just treating the UK like someone not in the union and/or supporting the ones that are over (relatively soon to no longer be a member) UK interests. Which does kinda' fuck 'em over (go figure, a major economic alliance with local powers is just a wee bit beneficial), but that doesn't appear to be the intent even if the occasional bit of rhetoric leans that way.

More than punishing someone, the EU needs to be showing they will support their own first and foremost. Not particularly their problem if the UK stuck their head up their own arse and refused to acknowledge the consequences of that... or decided they'd be better off without that support, to be more charitable. Fair amount of the euroskeptic screeching about the EU wanting to punish the UK is just idiots that didn't realize they had a really goddamn good deal and they weren't going to get to keep it while dropping their end of the bargain.

Man, all I know is now I want to see a scenario where a power that be taps the same guy for repeated false flag operations against themself, changing faces every time. The biography of the agent that killed themself fifty times, a story of the death and replacement of several dozen political figures of different names and faces but astoundingly similar proportions and mannerisms. Just imagine the support staff and spin doctors involved in that. It'd be a hell of a job to have.

Long as you're alright and your vehicle in one piece?
Can you actually meaningfully and accurately redirect asteroid trajectories with just nukes? If so, why haven't we knocked a juicy one into orbit to mine yet?
Cost, mostly, near as I can recall. Our lift capacity (up and down) isn't quite to the point it would be worth the price to do the mining, never mind the actual nuke part (and getting the world's nuclear powers to sign off on openly putting nukes into space to begin with). Beyond that, while we're pretty damn good at the whole orbital mechanics thing at this point, we're not quite to the level anyone in particular would be comfortable playing nuclear billiards with asteroids and our only planet as the corner pocket. Also you'd again have to convince world powers to let you do that, when a cockup can mean tunguska except in downtown LA or something. People get rather skittish when a cockup means tunguska in the middle of an urban area.

Basically, even if we do have the technical capability, it's still going to be quite a while before someone gets to try it without someone shooting them for the attempt.

I would, considering that inactivity's been a common response since the scenario was first introduced, and from what I've personally seen, age doesn't correlate much with a change in that. Conventional morality leans towards not pulling the switch if anything, near as I've noticed. It doesn't exactly like to take responsibility for stuff it didn't directly do, really. Makes for some uncomfortable conclusions regarding second order activities (culpability for elected officials, consequences of excess on third parties, stuff like that) and whatnot.

Also, CNN has said something about something cryptic about 'follow the trail of dead Russians'. Not sure what is up with that. This whole thing has become something straight out of a spy novel. Real Life being stranger than fiction and all that.
Not much up with that, nor all that cryptic. There's seven or eight or so fairly important/notable (for various reasons and to various degrees) russian figures that have ended up dead under perhaps questionable circumstances in the last little bit. CNN's basically saying to dig up who these people had been interacting with, and see what kind of stateside connections fall out. Should be fairly obvious that the insinuation is that one or more of the current administration is in bed with someone (*coughputincough* *hackrussianoligarchshack* ah, sorry, something caught in my throat for a second there...) who's been going on something of a murder spree to cover tracks/tie up loose ends.

Other than the whole was-manafort's-recommendation thing, anyway. Which is nothing direct, certainly.

Ethics and morality are interchangeable terms, mostly. Functionally there's almost never a difference, especially in casual usage. The times there are it's most used to differentiate between secular and non-secular ethics, near as I've noticed. Mostly just a case of english being english, though.

... no, it's definitely covered under ethics. It's one of the common scenarios used in introduction to the field.

E: Also something certain professions occasionally have to address in a very non-hypothetical manner. Emergency response, trauma care, military, just for some of the obvious ones.

Yeah, that's basically it, grei. It's a degrees of separation thing, by and large. For a lot of folks, just the causal distance provided in the scenario (by only controlling where the train goes, rather than having started it moving to begin with) is enough they feel justified their actions lead to more people dying. They didn't "do" anything, ergo they deny responsibility for the deaths. It be interesting if that applied to other stuff, like not paying taxes or putting on breaks or somethin'. It certainly doesn't in regards to dependants, heh.

Though yeah, changing the tracks would be murder, too. Sometimes the ethical solution is only really the least unethical, and you end up killing someone regardless.

7902
Aye, there was a degree of backlash, near as I can recall. Some down here, too, though, if my memory's working right. Which isn't an entirely safe assumption to make, but eh.

Eh, the argument is agency, grei. Something along those lines. With the five, your act is just inaction -- you didn't do anything save do nothing. With the one, you actively kill them. Lot of folks don't really see the former as leaving you responsible.

Don't much agree, personally. Murder by neglect is still murder, heh. You're going to be responsible for killing someone one way or another, so all else being equal it might as well be the fewer amount.

It depends on whether it was before or after eating or shooting. If the order's right and the comma's placed, it's legit.

Well, I don't think I noticed it being mentioned trump has more or less directly declared war on the freedom caucus. Some other messes apparently starting up, too. Remains to be seen what comes of it, if anything, but intraparty relations look like they're starting to blatantly break down.
