... y'know, I was going to quip "prosperity gospel", but then I remembered they do argue for end of life preparations, too, it's just their idea of that is the preacher going something along the lines of "will everything you have to my personal bank account".

It's not exactly good advice, but that's what you get when you buy into heresy that inimical to basic decency. It definitely offers suggestions for preparing for death.

So I guess the question would be how bad does the teachings have to be before they stop counting? "Don't think about it and keep praying" is as much teaching on end of life preparation as anything, it's just staggeringly shit teaching.

Musk isn't particularly interested in having rules outside his own drugged out whims, to all appearances, so you're pretty on point with that one.

Calling someone a racial epitaph isn't a call to violence. And I stressed _borderline_ because that's where the Right has been for 4 years now. If the rules are "every statement has to be adjudicated" then that's not policy, nor is it tenable.
I mean... if it isn't it's pretty damn close to it. I can't think of a single fucking instance in my life where racial slurs being brought out meant anything other than the person using them thought the target was deserving of whatever they got, with the implication (when it or worse wasn't just said outright) a good beating would be a nice start.

I'd expect to see him at some place like OAN very soon.
RT TV, maybe, heh. I've seen suggestion he might go back to CNN, since the change in leadership there. Hard to say, reporting I've seen points to the firing being quite sudden (as in Carlson might not have known until this morning), so it'll probably be a bit before anything shakes out on that front.

Good day and good riddance, in any case. Might not be a great tomorrow when the lying hatemonger gets replaced with someone similar, but for now it's nice.

Basically they don't make money, from what I understand. Free image hosting is relatively expensive for the host, and because most of the usage is hotlinking (i.e. most of the people using their bandwidth never actually see their site), they lack much ability to make it up by advertising or whatev'. So it's hard to keep up, and that difficulty only gets worse as the site gets more popular and sees more, largely unmonetizable, traffic.

So the cycle for these things is they start small and probably largely easy to use (i.e. there's little to no money making bullshit involved), people start using it, then ease of use degrades as the site owner tries (ineffectively!) to offset the cost of maintaining the servers, and eventually it buckles under the weight of steadily decreasing usability on top of increasing expenses without commensurate increase in income.

... or in other words, capitalism is incapable of being a sustainable system for maintaining free image hosting (which, in fairness, is completely bloody obvious if you think for a few minutes). Expenses increase faster than income and the basic structure of the service is pretty much impossible to effectively monetize in the face of expanding usage. You're probably not going to see an image host that doesn't follow that described cycle until someone or another turns one into a public utility, and it's probably going to be a long, long time before that happens.

SC protects access to the Abortion drug that Texas tried to ban, 5 to 2. Alito and Thomas dissenting.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/21/politics/supreme-court-abortion-pill-mifepristone/index.html

Safe. For now.
It's probably worth noting they didn't exactly protect shit, just held off on anything definitive until the appeals involved play out. It'll at least put a pin in that particular bit of horseshit for a few months, but they shouldn't get credit for anything more than kicking a can down the road until they actually do something more than that :-\

Practically, more or less as much traction as anything else? It (ignoring the old testament laws/saying they no longer applied to christians) has informed massive movements within modern christianity. So's outright literal anti-christ tier heresy that violently pisses all over scripture (prosperity gospel).

Far as I'm aware tossing out the old testament rules doesn't have huge grounds for theological justification based on scripture (most seriousface theologians I've noticed would agree it's post-hoc justification nonsense with no basis in the text, to whatever degree they think that's actually important), but when the hell has that mattered? Theology's fun, but it ain't what's pulling the metaphorical cart when it comes to religion.

Fun for me with things like that is tracking the sight lines. There's layers to noticing the girl can't seem to force her eyes above that thing's neck, and the horse-thing is looking more at her hair than anything. You can see her basically freaking out as the mythos-beast decides to start gnawing on her hair like a goat.

I sometimes wonder what kind of religion could be formed if using only the Gospels, discarding old Jewish laws and stories,  Paul's ideas of how to run Church\worship God, and Book of Revelations (oh that thing...)
You're basically talking about something built off the Jefferson Bible, or something of similar intent. There's definitely not much of anything of significant note organized like that, but there's been the occasional effort at it over the centuries.

I think a lot of the problem with efforts like that is that once you've done that project you're basically just left with "Don't be an asshole", which... doesn't need a special religious figure to anchor it, y'know? It's just some dude saying be good to one another. From there it either regresses back into ritualized junk or discards the spiritual aspect more or less entirely.

Between being tired and probably needing an eye exam, I read this instead, at first glance:
Seen that happen with kittens with too little water in them. The water evaporates and the film of minerals left behind burns on the heating element.

which is a very, very different statement

and on that note i'm going to sleep

may you all dream of kitten minerals burning into heating elements

This is one of those if it exists there will be pron of it things or is is something else?
Sorta' yes to both? JRR's stuff has been around and popular for a long, long time. Nevermind artists, just fanfiction writers have had decades to do things to his works, and the general and ongoing popularity means there was the content creators to do it, too.

It has less to do with R34 specifically than it does with just time, though.

Y'know, I'm honestly unsure if there's any character in all of tolkien's works that remains unlewded. I would be completely unsurprised if someone went looking and found something for literally all of them.

... I'd be even more unsurprised at that remainder rapidly disappearing if someone actually went and found out something had avoided it.

Eh, or that they can break the opposing party with legal fees without actually needing a case. Frivolous lawsuits as a punitive thing are something the wealthy seem to love.

Nuking it's apparently recommended as a way to decrystallize the stuff, and it's even mostly safe... with a glass container.

But yeah, despite some staggeringly unwise advice I noticed during a quick check if there was some kind of significant reason for the warning, trying it in a plastic bottle is repeatedly noted by google search results (and, like, basic familiarity with food preparation) as an invitation to a hospital trip for burn damage.

It's just such an incredibly obviously poor choice you'd think it'd be rare enough a warning label wasn't warranted, but. Apparently not.
