Don't know one off the top of my head, but from what I recall most email accounts have some sort of option to redirect/forward their stuff to another account. Could potentially fiddle with that and have it all sent to a sort of omniaccount. Probably the least potentially sketchy option, t'boot. Pretty such most major email programs (outlook, etc.) have some sort of functionality along those lines, too. POP forwarding or somethin' like that. Been like a decade since the last time I had reason to bother with it.

Quick check around pulled up the names mercurymail and zoe, though. Haven't used them, nor looked beyond cursory search in passing regarding quality et al, but they might be worth checking.

... that said, that's a vaguely silly amount of memory per tab, and I say that as someone that regularly has a couple hundred tabs open. Maybe consider just using a different browser specifically for the email checking? Or kicking on various only-use-html options email providers tend to have for older computer/slower connection folks. Might help if you haven't already gotten around to trying it.

They don't actually give out permits for that, really. Emergency response type stuff gets some leeway there, but even they only have so much slack before the civil and/or criminal suits start rolling in.

@Frumple
@Martinuzz
You're being too compassionate, which is ironically why cops look so bad in certains shootings just because the suspects turned out to be unarmed (but were reaching for something, or grappled).

I could be wrong, but I think *concealed* carry is prominently forbidden for such buildings...  Open carry is not, though they'd have to surrender their weapons at the metal detectors.
They may have been in their legal rights.

Edit:  Though even if it's illegal, is it worth shooting them outright just for being armed?  No, there are rules for escalation.
Ah, rol, I didn't really say anything about it being the open carry that would have meant them being shot wouldn't have been particularly out of line, legality wise. Again, as per the article, what they're being charged with isn't misuse of a firearm or whatever the technical term for a carry violation is. They were absolutely not in their rights to walk into a police station and maintain possession of their arms if a police officer told them to relinquish them, nor to commit an act that was very much obviously going to cause a disturbance. The open carry made it so the police had more reason to stop them with lethal force, but it wasn't what would have justified it.

That said, open carry is impermissible in most places concealed carry is as well, at least in michigan, though technically police stations may not qualify as one of those places ("correctional facilities" are, but it's questionable if the station itself counts, there -- the state law (at least the one I noticed and appears to be meaningfully clarified by the courts) in question was pretty specifically aimed at prisons). And that's not getting into the disturbance et al issues.

And yeah, shooting them just for being armed wouldn't have been what got them shot, as per the transcribed lines in the article linked. Not immediately putting down their weapon when the cops told them to, would have. There's relatively few places you can legally deny that kind of command, and pretty much none of them even remotely resemble a public government building being used for law enforcement.

Nah, I'm pretty sure it actually would have been okay if they had been shot, at the absolute least from a legal standpoint. Wouldn't have had much to do with the open-carry part of the equation, though.* Charges the pair are up for should make the why of it obvious enough, methinks.

E: *Mostly by changing noncompliance with police orders to armed noncompliance, which generally does rather painful things to your legal protections. Add on the public space and especially the government/police department part of it and eesh. There damn sure ain't constitutional protection for that shit.

Ah... well, far as I could parse from the article there would have actually been less than .05% legit claims. The .05% was just claims aimed at sites that didn't fail to be in google's search index, not necessarily ones that were genuinely infringing :V

Eh. Rough guess as to the nature of morality is social optimization, shaping the implementation of our inter and intra group behaviors to increase comfort (and/or survivability and/or happiness, and/or safety, and...), in the face of environmental concerns and human bio/psychology. It's long been how we inculcate behavior that makes it easier for us to live with each other, and function better in relation to a reality that wants to kill us. Just about every major ethical system and most individual and/or near/entirely universal ethical behavior derives pretty easily from that supposition, and explains a lot of what has caused ethical systems to develop as they have. It's not necessarily the exclusive or exhaustive nature of ethics, 'cause multivariate is multivariate and fuck your answers clear, simple, and wrong, but it's definitely what seems to be a very strong majority of it.

The stupid propositions that come from trying to game the observation into absurdity are pretty much invariably rooted in misunderstanding or ignorance of the mentioned environment, or biology or psychology, to preempt one of the more common attempts to invalidate it.

... I've tried to play several of the older ones. Some I made an hour or two in, some not. The side scrolling one I really wanted to get in to, I spent a couple hours and never made it more than two or three screens in. The combat system (I.e. what you spent 90+% of the time doing) back then (for all of them, and especially the side scroller) was honestly just kinda' miserable to play. Almost like a top down Joust, except more fiddly and significantly less enjoyable. Can't speak much for the newer ones, though. Hear they abandoned what was imo one of the worst incarnations of top-down combat the world has ever seen, at some point, but the early Ys soured me pretty hard to the series, for all I've got a fair amount of respect for it vis a vis the influence and popularity.

My best recommendation (short of indulging in emulation, anyway) would be to see which in particular is enticing you, and then hunt down a video or two from a let's play, see if the gameplay in action is something that appeals to you. So far as the older ones and their remakes are concerned, though, I'd honestly just suggest watching/reading a LP and saving yourself the trouble. Good to see some gameplay or ride along for a playthrough or two just 'cause of their place in gaming history, but to actually play it... there's a lot of significantly more enjoyable things you can do with your gaming time.

Oh, of you're looking for blame, trek lets you always blame the Q. It's oddly convenient.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure close to literally every attempt in that universe of any meaningful degree of transhumanist tech went badly -- most exceptions were exceptions, generally singular, and occasionally went completely off the rails and almost killed everyone around them. Cyborgs, artificial life, genetic engineering, pretty sure uploading at some point or any other, basically everything. Plus they have immortals flapping around, and they're all bugnuts with as near as I can recall zero exception. Pretty sure the federation's actually operating off of empirically observed fact.

And even then, they mess around with stuff like the Doctor. The sentiment against it is strong, but they're also a lot like anti-nuke folks that can actually point to a great deal of instances where shit melted down and exploded.

You can say a lot about the writers bias, but so far as in-setting reasoning goes I'd say it's pretty defensible for folks in the star trek universe to be incredibly leery about pretty much everything transhuman or moving in its direction.

Eh, fair enough. Other side of it is that those things do tend to get organized well ahead of the actual date. If there was actually completely frozen agencies there, they were probably just booked before stupidity came into effect. Poor everyone.

8336
Local job fair the past two days.

Loads of government agencies attending, but there's basically no point in them being there, because Trump froze all of the hiring.

Thanks Obama Donald J Trump.
For what it's worth, the hiring freeze isn't entirely solid. Some parts of the fed are still able to hire, and state gov is unaffected (save for knockon effects of the fed trying to dig itself into a grand hole of uselessness). No clue if the agencies at your fair fall under one or the other, but it's entirely possible they actually have positions that are both needed and able to be filled.

I just hope it's not a repeat of last time, heh. Bundlestars is indeed mostly legit, but they also kinda' screwed the SR2 dev a little bit back.

Mind tends to be a fair bit more important, mostly, and by and large changing ourselves and our environment to suit our needs (mental and otherwise) is basically what we do as a species. Whether changing the mind or the situation is considered more favorable depends a significant amount of the situation -- "many" is not "most", if you will. Also probably worth noting that changing the genitals to match the mind isn't considered acceptable for a lot of people. I'd disagree pretty strenuously with 'em myself, but it's a thing.

That, and as near as I can recall very, very few people that have tried to change the mind to match the body (in the sense of buggering the brain chemistry into matching the plumbing rather than the other way around) in the considered situation actually managed it, particularly in any way that was even remotely healthy. There's virtue in reasonableness and proper consideration, not so much self-flagellation and psychosis-inducing denial.

It hasn't been because nobody wants to. That's nearly on the level of "what would happen if Ranma got pregnant as a girl and then turned back into a boy?"
... well, official answer, yes. Unofficial, fanfics roll with that premise rather a lot. Not the most uncommon prompt, though usually it's him getting stuck rather than swapping back.

Disturbingly, I seem to remember at least one or two of them are actually pretty well written. Can't even begin to recall the name, though, and I'm not going to go looking, either.

easy there john calvin, it ain't that weird

edit: tangentially related controversial opinion, but most dudes should pee sitting down too anyway. i don't really give a shit about dudes leaving the seat up (tho i am of the opinion that you should always put the seat and cover down, it really doesn't save you any time to skip this step, don't be lazy), but i've known too many guys who stink up the place because they can't aim for shit. if you can't get your piss in the water like a civilised person, sit your ass down and take a moment to think about what a failure you are
For what it's worth, folks both male and female have been leaving the seat up where I'm living. It's not a time thing, it's the fact that if you leave it down one of those folks that have occasional trouble aiming will get the seat instead of the bowl, when they're in too much of a hurry or just forget to lift it when they go themselves. It may not save time so far as pissing goes, but it definitely saves time from not having to clean the toilet seat.

... that said, if you're not somewhat incontinent elderly you probably shouldn't need that kind of consideration.
