I mean, I can't remember the last time a governor said they wanted to pardon someone of the outright murder of a political protestor?

This particular shitty reason is actually kinda' remarkably shitty even among shitty reasons.

Though it's not actually true anyone can be pardoned? For what it's worth. The things have to be requested and/or accepted, and even in Texas there's a process involved beyond the governor.

That's a technical note when the substantive thing going here is a state governor indicating they'll pardon someone for the outright murder of political opposition, though.

And outright rejecting Old Testament... let's say not that many people will agree that you are a Christian after that.
Eh... huge swaths of protestantism does that to varying degrees, at a minimum? There's actually a lot (like, probably multiple hundreds of millions) of people that call themselves christian that reject some or all of the old testament's laws and strictures, and other parts of it to varying degrees as well.* Something something new covenant something.

Can't even say I blame 'em, with all due respect to judaism the old testament is incredibly fucked up on a lot of levels. Yeeting those writings (get rid of revelations while you're at it, it'll do you good) from your metaphysics drops a ton of really nasty baggage.

* ... not necessarily consistently, mind, but if you're expecting consistency from christianity (or any religion, for that matter) you haven't been paying attention, heh.

One of my english teachers threatened to throw a sword at me for that. Brandished it and everything.

You're probably thinking more writing or journalism than english :P

Lot more than dementia, some of it as simple as poor lighting and a similar build, never mind actual cognitive impairment of some sort due to intoxication or something neurological, or eye problems of some sort. Human sensory interpretation just... flat fabricates a lot, we've found, even when it's in otherwise good shape.

I've mistaken random people for folks I lived with for well over a decade, just due to not being particularly close yet -- probably only three or four times in my life between them all, but it's happened more than once.

It's understandable how much trust folks put in their own senses -- you kinda' have to, to some degree, just to live -- but... past a certain point, that trust is probably unwarranted. It's definitely something I've internalized as true after hallucinating nonstop for the last 30+ years, heh, but it's just as true for folks that don't have conditions causing outright hallucinations. Just not as easy for them to notice.

Eh... is it? I've hallucinated plenty of the course of my life, congenital stuff means it's literally my baseline state of existence. Personal experience is really easy to disprove, especially when you're entirely aware it wasn't particularly real. Human brain glitches real easy.

Dorohedoro is a great show. Same sort of feel of Chainsaw Man in that joyful irreverent sense of mayhem and choppy action. The first episode jumps straight into the action of an alligator-man and a chef waging a two-man war against sorcerers, who as we all know, wizards have no sense of right and wrong.
... that blurb reminds me quite a lot of Keyman. It's been a while since something reminded me of that manga.

Can... can't really ever recommend it because the loli fanservice is pretty strong, but on the same hand basically everything outside of that was pretty bloody amazing. Has one of the best skullman character designs I've ever seen. Lots of just amazing design work.

Hey, I think a lot of things supersede copyright issues, too, so I'm with you on that one... but unfortunately news org lawyers don't tend to agree. One of the myriad problems with for-profit journalism, probably.

Anyway, it doesn't look like there's a specific rule for it here, so maybe boss Toad ain't worried about it, but it (not posting entire news articles) is not a bad habit to get and stay in, just to save admins trouble.

Maybe truncate/summarize it, too. Iirc there's actually legal issues with just pasting a whole news article elsewhere, though I don't quite remember the details -- couple of other places I loiter have a 200 word limit or thereabouts, if it helps any. Probably safer to not unless the org that's putting it out explicitly allows it.

Most of the time? Not always (I've seen both reptile, fungal/plant, and construct renditions, off the top of my head), but generally yes.

Parts of the world it might not be safe to, in some situations, though. Just depends on how prevalent and violent the local bigots are, but that's standard for most religiously aligned well wishing. Sometimes the stuff that isn't, too, really...

Nobody ever told me growing up that the biggest thing I'd be dealing with as an adult with my parents wouldn't be them being infirm, but their mental states.
For what it's worth, the separation between those two is often pretty blurry, where it exists at all. Aging, especially if there's previous issues, often just kinda' compounds cognitive issues, with progressively degenerating physical capability making it all the worse.

100% fucking no one talks about it, though. Lots of aspects of elder care are just not goddamn spoken of in many societies, so when that shit comes down like a ton of bricks for whoever's close to the person in question everyone involved basically flounders. Don't help one damn bit in a lot of places there's just functionally goddamn zero societal assistance for older folks or whatever family or friends they might have trying assist :-\

There's just not many people willing to tell folks ahead of time it's probably going to be fucking miserable trying to take care of your older family. One of those things not talked about on the health front that just makes everything worse for basically everyone, bleh.

Ah, I thought the problem you were referencing was racism on the part of the people making the ads, not that they were targetting a racist demographic using racist-comfortable imagery.
I mean, hell, there's no space between those two. It's the same thing, y'know? The WTF was more how persistent it is, most times you'll at least get 1 token black or middle eastern or latine person or something, but this mess was just, "Nope! Our ad for Jerusalem will have no jews on it."

I've been thinking a bit about a book I read back as a teenager, when I was still reading regularly. Others, by James Herbert. That book was fucking weird, even for a horror story. Grim, somewhat misanthropic, delved into body and sexual horror more than a bit. Generally a very disturbing book, not light reading even for me when I was reading a ton of horror books, a few of which featured elements of sexual violence.
I occasionally get that, too (though I've definitely not stopped reading regularly, heh). Anthony's Firefly is the primary one that pops back up from time to time, though I read it as a pre-teen. Was were I learned the word necrophilia! Other messed up shit happened, too. That book probably shouldn't have been accessible to an 8 year old :V

The use of white crowds is because a lot of older people are racist uncomfortable around people who don't look like them, at least in the abstract, so using white people in the photos helps reassure them and make them more likely to actually follow through on a holiday.
Trust me, I'm 100% aware of why the company's doing it. The decision making involved is pretty well trod if you've been paying much attention any time in the last, uh. Century? Plus? It ain't new, anyway. It's just persistently offputting ever since I started noticing that nonsense. One of the more irritating parts of processing kids books/anything graphical at my job, especially older stuff, tbh. It's hard to miss once you realize what's happening.

Like I said, tell me you have problems (intentionally catering to racist demographics, with all that's likely to entail) without telling me you have problems, heh.
