... I'm not seeing the bad in this. Not only fire, but poisonous gas and viscous flesh melting puddles? It's christmas come early, with more screaming.

Yeeeah, but your e-book, with its limited app selection, color capacity and refresh rate, is way less of a functional computer than a tablet would be. It might be at some point in the future, but not right now. To me it's a choice between having a functional book and some sort of inferior untertablet, at least at the moment.
*shakes fist* Reader. My ebooks cannot into programs, unless something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

That said, it's... an android OS, and amazon didn't try nearly hard enough to lock the machine down to amount to much. The app selection's as good as anything mobile is and easily covers everything I actually want to use the thing for, and color capacity and refresh rate I give less than zero complimentary fornications about I'm actually not sure why capacity matters at all, tbh. This thing's a fire, not an e-ink machine. It is less functional than a lap/desktop, but... I don't need it to be that functional. It actually does about everything I'd want to do with a touchscreen, right now. Actually didn't think I'd be as fond of the thing when I got it as I am, now, and probably didn't when it was initially gifted to me, but after a few months of pointedly ignoring amazon and everything it wanted me to do and finagling the thing like a budget pimp in a back alley (and several more of just using the thing, after it was properly broken in) I'm pretty happy with it.

That said, circadian rhythm person above: Thing I use's called twilight. There's other f.lux equivalents, too. Helps tremendously for low-light usability, particularly if you like curling up and reading before you go to sleep. Vis a vis the versus thing, I'm not actually against books (been a bibliophile of limited means most of my life, and still have trouble stopping myself from getting books on the cheap when I notice them), m'just pretty certain digital wins on... basically every front except maybe tactile and durability (and that one's iffy... there's different concerns involved). Like paper well enough but y'know. Library in pocket. All the rest of it's just garnish. It's very difficult to drag a library around with you otherwise, and when you can and often do go through a trade paperback in 3-4 hours or less, you kinda' need a library :V

@Av: There probably is a push for that. Most folks seem to like the convenience of having a small mostly-functional computer they can carry around more than they like a charge life measured in weeks. I certainly do, ehehe.

Probably would have gotten an e-ink reader instead of the kindle had it not been a present, but... I don't regret it. You can get everything to work on (some) e-ink stuff, but it's usually more effort than what's involved just dealing with a tweaked android OS, and being able to casually put new stuff on the thing is... nice.

... also, it's totally ebook readers, not just ebook. The ebook's the book file :V

Plenty of ereader stuff has a backlight these days, anyway. And many of them also have f.lux equivalents if you prefer something gentler on the eyes.

And yes, they're several metric fucktons more practical, convenient, etc. Not only do I carry a small library around in my pocket these days instead of a book, it can easily read .pdf, .html, and so on, so non-standard format/publishing venues, etc., are easily accessed as well. Power can be an issue but eh.

... also it's an android OS so I'm making this post on the thing and all the other junk involved with such. Do recommend, pretty heavily, so long as you can manage the input et al, anyway.

Today's morning wakeup call: Spatula del fuego. No, I don't know spanish, no, I don't care about whatever extent that's wrong.

Smoke alarm and a hazy, choking house is not nearly the worst thing to start a morning with, but it's gotta' be at least bronze league competitive.

There's a small handful of nation locked (ish) items, actually. C'tis has 'em, ferex, and beyond ragha you could make a half-hearted argument that some of the reanimation nations do, too, since the boosting amulets only work for specific corporeal undead (not manikins, not incorporeal ones, etc.). Pretty sure one of the UW nations got some kind of jellyfish stick or somethin' relatively recently. Probably some I'm forgetting, heh.

None that start with them, though, which is a thought. It'd probably be hell and a half to balance for anything outside of fairly specific scenario setups.

As for rag's one, I've forgotten exactly how it works too, but I haven't forgotten it being kinda' useless. Something about the only thing that can equip it just not being very impressive, iirc, or at least not particularly suited to what bonuses the item gives.

Eehh... the sac thing definitely is compatible with D4's system, if maybe not 100% mod supported right this very instance. There's a handful of spells already in the game that effectively blow up units in battle for various effects, and hitting your own stuff with negative effects is very far from mechanically difficult, so far as I'm aware. Not even getting into blood magic, which has that sort of thing as pretty much its entire battlefield shtick, heh. I wouldn't be too surprised if you could mod up something that kills a random number of your units and then summons something nasty.

... though now I'm thinking of some kind of spell, probably blood, that soaks up a certain number (of gems worth) of battlefield wide (or maybe just buffs, period) persistent effects and then explodes the caster. Maybe an actual explosion, maybe it spawns a higher level horror, maybe it marks and after a certain number of marks triggers the effect (so you couldn't use someone casting the spell very long), something along those lines. Probably have to be fairly high up, magic level wise, just to make sure it's an investment rather than something spew B1 chaff at to shut down enemy casting. It'd be a neat spell.

... so is secundus pathos's great-something grandparent, or just the name it took before the internet?

... I have had a song, or at least part of it,* stuck in my head for like the past... week. Fucking incessantly. It doesn't go away. It's actually been causing headaches. The wall has been driven up and we are now in ceiling donut land. Is the worst case of this I've ever had, and I wish I knew what was causing it besides a freakishly effective earworm.

*Background music from the first real town in voidspire tactics. Can hear it kinda low here, starting around 14:48 if the link doesn't take properly. Probably a better example somewhere on youtube but effort.

Eheh. Glad it helped, and yeah, it can be easy to overlook finesse on a rogue. Between some of the more common rogue inclined races having it naturally and it being as thematic as it is for the class forgetting you don't actually have it by default isn't terribly difficult. Can be hard to remember there's actually strength build rogues that neither want nor need the feat out there some days, heh.

8651
*coughs* Do, ah. Do you have weapon finesse? Because if not, you're using your strength score (13, so +1) instead of your dex (18, +4) for to-hit calculations. It'd make a difference. Can't recall if the dual wield feat you're talking about helps mitigate that penalty to using an offhand medium weapon, too -- you might try swapping the offhand rapier for a dagger or somethin'. Nix that, I just noticed you said you were offhanding the shortsword, which should be fine.

Beyond that, if that weapon description is entirely accurate, those are +0 weapons with a neat bonus -- basically they're not helping you hit things at all. And beyond that, I'm pretty sure I remember NWN having damage reduction, which may mean you're trying to hit things with them you very literally can't damage with those particular weapons. Though checking, the daze version for both is +1 -- still not helping that much, but more than nothing. Don't remember what enchantment level was normal for that part of the game, but I'm fairly sure a level 8 character should be at like +2 or 3 at a minimum, if my memory's not completely shot. Also probably want to keep an eye out for +dex items, as that'll help your accuracy if you get finesse (alternately continue getting strength up). Add on some basic buffing (Bless, cat's grace, etc.), and you should start hitting significantly more often.

Basically, if that half-orc is using a +3 or up weapon* and not dual-wielding, has high strength, and is a higher BAB progression class (fighter, whatev'), it's definitely going to be hitting (a lot) more than your rogue/assassin dual-wielding +1 weapons and pinging its to-hit off its low-ish strength instead of its high(er) dex.

*E: Ah, and can't forget any weapon specialization feats it may have. That can be a few more points of accuracy, iirc.

Also, I'm like sixty percent sure you can turn on more detailed roll information one way or another. If you can do that, it'd make it a lot easier to see what's going on.

TIL that Heaven is just a scheme by Judeo-Christian God to surround theirself with virile Men.

Thanks for far-improving my religious headcannon, thread.
Hey, the turn the other cheek bit can be interpret as divine command to full monty folks. Streaker J gets things done, good gasbug.

There's always a reason to try. Even in failure or impossibility can you find the seeds of a future endeavor. Or a crushed sword doubter, I guess. Their place of residence made rubble, if nothing else. All good things, to the one that calls an oversized bread knife a sword.

Alternatively, of course, is that having no reason to try is no reason to not try, heh.

8654
When you need to accelerate your sword to a significant fraction of C in order to kill someone with it, it's not a very good sword.
Need is not necessary, good fellow. Sometimes you make a city destroying oddly labelled butter knife not because you must, but because you can.

Though in either case, not accelerated. They who demeans the mighty blade moniker of excessive loaf annihilation get naught but a tilting and the inevitability of a tryst between gravity and several tons of an indeterminate metal.

8655
It will be if the thing's large enough to flatten the building you're in. Sometimes a sword is just a sword. Other times it's a toppling kinetic kill vehicle in the shape of a bread knife. Me, I'm not going to argue with someone able and willing to go into demolition work via upscaled cutlery they decide is either going to be called a sword or an invitation for pro bono deconstruction.
