General Discussion / Re: Railgun and Spirituality Discussion

New covenant, yadda yadda. Homosexuality isn't necessarily in good shape from nixing the Leviticus et al stuff, since there's crap in the NT, too, but it's arguably better. Iirc it's a common interpretation but not necessarily the most theologically sound, though I can't quite recall why at the moment.

That said, hating other humans has pretty much always been explicitly contrary to the word of the new testament. Forget where but there's scripture quoted more than once in the thread. Lotta' folks can't really wrap their head around loving even the sinner, heh.

And sure, telg, you have to follow some of the rules but there's only two or three big ones and pretty much all of the minutia is of questionable relevance to 'em. Tends to be how folks not terribly interested in the shitty parts of the text rolls with things. One of the more fun interpretations I've seen occasionally is that much/most of the stuff in the texts themselves is a test. Stuff that's contrary or interferes with the big message (which basically boils down to love god, love your fellow man, treat both well) littered throughout and there to more or less see how well the people claiming to be faithful are actually paying attention. So hate gays, test to see if the message love got through. Stone XYZ, treat well. OT God, hell, maybe even that's a test to see whether you love god and its message enough to reject a presentation that's obviously against its loving nature. So on, so forth. Fun stuff. Heretical revisionist bullshit, more than anything, but the best kind of heretical revisionist bullshit, that's fun and seems to tend to produce some pretty decent folks.

Haven't used shapeways myself, but I wouldn't trust plastic at all tbh. Titanium's the way to go for glasses frames, in my experience, or at least the shape-memory alloys involving it. Bit more expensive on the initial investment, but I've had the frames I've got at the mo' for like a decade or something now, occasionally swapping in new lenses, whereas back when I did wear other kinds (plastic included), I'd be lucky if they survived a year. Memory metal ftw, yo'. Slept on 'em (regularly), stepped on 'em (unintentionally, obviously enough), pretty sure they've been run over at least once, etc., etc., etc., and the only things that have broke were the lenses and the nose bits that need replacing occasionally anyway. Bloody things are like the old school gameboy of eyeglass frames.

... that said, it does look like they've got the option, so... maybe check and see if there's reviews or summat?

... identity politics are a problem for humans, smj. That sort of thing is at least as prevalent for US conservatives as liberals. Treatment is different but presence largely is not.

You repeal the laws and other initiatives that were giving people formerly (/currently/likely to be) victimized a (degree of) legal means of resistance. Not very complicated, unfortunately.

Ain't Murrican election machines cheap and/or old crap in the first place?

IF electoral fraud happened, we had it coming.  IF it was a malfunction, we also had it coming.  Tentatively, I'd wager the latter is more likely to happen.
To a large extent, yeah. Is the kind of thing that happens when you've got half the political powers in a country trying to make the government small enough to drown in a bathtub. Go figure, constantly trying to shrink budgets and government responsibilities/powers can have consequences :V

Then either your nation or said empire needs to be burnt to the ground. The only thing to be humped in that scenario is the charred ashes of a nation's existence.

And those holding that perspective are quite welcome to go shrink down and attempt carnal relations with a bedbug.

... well, no, I wouldn't actually recommend that, or suggest it someone. No one deserves that. Not even a relativist or a duck.

Still not more fucked up than bedbugs and their ilk, imo.

Definitely a comfortable entrant for either the list of reasons intelligent design isn't, or the one of evidence that the designer is either malignant or mentally disturbed, though. I'll give the ducks that much.

That said, there are many such things on those lists. Nature is a gift that keeps on giving, even if you don't want it to. Even if you really wish it would stop. The screaming and curling into a ball, sobbing, doesn't help. Too much sees that as an invitation. Some days people ask me why I'm not actually that concerned about any particular species going extinct, even though I'm very biosphere focused otherwise. This is why. For all I'll advocate to keep it alive because it keeps me alive, there are many creatures in this world whose passing is a sweet mercy upon existence.

Oh. That? Well, SA's a different question but stateside the schism was... decades ago. Or about as much as you're going to see, anyway. US catholics have been rejecting the authority of the pope and vatican for a long while now, to varying degrees based on specific denomination/region/congregation/etc.

And antichrist is always, everywhere. Now, tomorrow, yesterday. All over, no escape, unfortunately no svelte competence leading the world to an era of apparent peace either. Wish that would hurry up if it's comin', because this watered down antichrist crap got old years ago, probably even before I was born.

Depends on what you call bad. Dude's catholic through and through, with exactly what that entails and little to nothing else. Just about the biggest difference between him and previous ones have been more framing and word choice than actual advocacy or whathaveyou. Same shit different package, to put it crudely.

Other Games / Re: [Kickstarter] Arcen Game's AI War II. Take 2.
« on: November 23, 2016, 08:01:12 am »
AI war is hundreds of hours of fun. Whats an extra 10 for a great niche company
Draco got it, but the answer is three to five days of food, or 1-3 days of gas costs, or somewhere between a half and an eighth of a doctor visit, or any number of other things :V

Four would be less, obviously enough, but it's still a couple days of not!hungry, enough gas to get to somewhere it's cheaper (with a bit left over to spend there), etc., etc. But it's the difference of between an extra ~1/20th of my disposable funds and ~1/50th, either way. Can manage to ignore conscientiousness sufficiently without that extra, but it's a close thing.

... plus I've honestly sunk more cash into arcen over the years than I should have, heh. Got a few of their games I don't even particularly like (skyward collapse, valleys, probably a couple others I've forgotten I have), just 'cause I wanted to give them money.

8727
I'd vote for it.

8728
You can't settle criminal proceedings though, can you?
You can, actually. There's some fairly strong limitations on settlement being for money, but criminal cases are settled pretty regularly. Usually admission of guilt for reduced sentence kinda things, iirc.

By all accounts I've heard, even those trying to play it up, it's the exact opposite. Some people enjoy that kind of thing, I guess, but there's plenty that very much don't.

8730
Well, okay technically yes, they can still prosecute him.

But, uh, do you really think that the lawsuits would still proceed against Trump? I think he has already settled the Trump University one for 25 million dollars, and he's probably going to settle all the others, too.

That, or they'll just drop the charges on their own, because making an enemy out of a POTUS with a short hair-trigger like Donald Trump, and with full support of all branches of government on the idea of "squashing the Dems", doesn't seem like a particularly wise move.
Oh, he was probably going to settle many or most regardless. But do I think some or many will keep fighting? Would say it's pretty likely. You seem to forget that for a lot of chunks of this country there's no "making" an enemy out of this POTUS, because he's coming into office having already declared himself one and at the head of a lot of people that have been declaring themselves such for many a year. The political control isn't really as iron-clad as would be necessary to be enough of a threat to really cow folks, and there's a fair chunk of incentive to start sticking monkey wrenches in as many things as possible. Maybe if the SC manages to get stacked or the 2018 elections go really badly for the country dems, but for the next couple years it ain't there, yet.
