General Discussion / Re: Election Day, USA!

Not much chance of an assassination, tbh. Not that it would change the relative merits of the candidates much, ha.

And gods, yes, yes there has been HL. Alt-right broke into our election cycle full force and we all suffered for it :-\

Stein was on mine, at least. Johnson and one or two other non-major party folks, too. Two, now that I check the online sample ballot. Castle and De La Fuente.

Especially in an area like yours. For whatever it means, thanks for the effort, misk.

That said, the civil rights act has a hell of a lot more legal precedent and constitutional support.

... also there's less than zero chance clinton actually would try to overturn the civil rights act. Not even most GOP wonks would go that far. Why is this even a question?

They aren't explictly saying that though, seems more being willfully blind to the effects of voter suppression and seeing it as their own echo chamber thoughts rather than the actual reason.
They word it like that, yes, but this is the NCGOP. Both the legal verdicts and their own goddamn words indicate they know exactly what's happened.

It's not, actually, not if it was 90 feet from the polling place, and especially not with the loudspeaker. Florida law prohibits political activity that attempts to influence people within a hundred feet of the polling entrance, as well as anything physically within that range. Whoever the hell it was is earning themselves some legal trouble.

E: And here we have the GOP crowing about the success of their voter suppression efforts in NC. Do believe this is one of the few things I've encountered this cycle that's genuinely pissed me right the fuck off.

Local police should be appropriate, tbh. Breakin' law's breakin' law. There's hotlines and stuff floating around, though. Xkcd's thing had one, pretty sure there's one on clinton's site... hell, even the GOP is running one.

9067
Dunno if it's a federal thing but that's definitely illegal under florida state law, yes. Video, maybe? Upload, send license plate number to cops.

9068
Hey, UK did basically run with that line despite their polling being even closer. Maybe this is some kind of odd linguistic drift.

I wish I could have voted Johnson in an effort to get the Libertarians over the 5% mark, as I would like them to be a better vector for ideas into the two major parties. Unfortunately, polls put Trump's margin of victory in this state at just within the likely margins of the polling error, meaning that I can't afford not to vote Clinton in an effort to flip a closer-than-expected vote.

I keep seeing that 5% mark thing, but I can't find any evidence for that anywhere else to find. Can someone give me a source on that 5% = public funding deal? The only thing I actually found kinda was bad news in that it said something along the lines of (but I might have misunderstood) that Obama signed a thing in 2014 that ended public funding for presidential campaigns.
Obama cut off funding of presidential nomination conventions specifically, apparently. You can check here For the five percent thing, under general election funding. Five percent is the bottom threshold to qualify as a minor party so far as funding is concerned.

And ninja'd, bah.

Yeah, you missed it. Somehow, considering it's about all they've been posting in here. Cod's been arguing against voting since they showed up.

9071
3%.
Still really not close. That's a large margin for Hillary. Better to be safe and warm in the house than standing in a freezing cold line all night.
Better to get out and vote, so we get a much larger margin and hopefully don't have to go through another election cycle like this one. Single digit margin is smaller than it should be. Double digit might just get the GOP to pay attention.

9072
Sorry not 20 people (I mistaken believed, apperantly, that one person controls ALL the votes for their entire state)... The 20 states.
Ah. Hell if I know, then. I'm not on enough drugs to think there's enough of a chance that a majority (or more than two or three at most) of electors turn faithless in 20 states to be worth crunching the numbers for. Better question in a scenario like that is how many of them would end up lynched or shot by the next morning, really.

9073
... gerrymandering, neo. Gerryrigging is jury rigging misspelled, and something a bit different.

Any case, she'd still need 270 votes, it'd just have been 290 if it weren't for the faithless electors, assuming none of them were being faithless in her favor.

9074
... 270. Same as anyone. That number's not going to change.

And yes, it's technically not impossible clinton wins the popular vote but loses the EC. Just rather staggeringly unlikely.

9075
Regardless, something more along the lines of a 10% at the end of the day would be a nice and solid "knock it off" to the GOP. US folks, if you're reading and haven't done it yet, get out and vote.
