General Discussion / Re: Railgun and Spirituality Discussion

Eehh... depends on the nailgun, and how you're counting it. If there's nothing to penetrate, a nailgun (or, bonus points, a staple gun) would probably be able to win the contest in terms of sheer quantity of holiness, since they shoot faster and can have multiple heads (i.e. they increment the holiness counter by >1 each time). If there is, a railgun may be able to win out, depending on how much it can go through. And if you're counting not just the quantity of holiness, but the volume and overall ft2 involved, the railgun's probably going to take a lead just due to the perforation sizes involved.

Comparative holiness in firearms is a tricky subject, is what I'm saying. Ultimately irrelevant, for we all bow our erogenous zones to the unsurpassed majesty of the Over Dakka, but full of areas to quibble within nonetheless.

Nah, it was determined pretty early it was at least possible. The relation is tenuous and probably not terribly expressed in the current time, but existent.

Their typical egalitarian attitude and idea that loyalty is something that must be earned rather than something that you are intrinsically owed?
... okay? How do you get that loyalty isn't considered a virtue from that?

No, it is. It's just the ideal vis a vis virtues and the practice are often farcically different things.

Not really sure where you got the idea that loyalty isn't seen as a virtue in the states from...

As much as it is anywhere, so far as I can recall.

Yeah, boiling soda basically turns it flat. If you've got a sweet tooth, some types taste pretty good.

... you really need a sweet tooth, though. "Molten sugar" is one way to describe how it tends to turn out. Kinda' miss it. Can't really drink anything caffeinated, these days.

So... soda tea.* Most heretical or just extra heretical?

* Tea steeped in carbonated drink base instead of water.

Uh. What if they are heretics, though? I've met a few radicals that considered themselves heretical christians, ferex. And the appellation does have a definition, one that's actually fairly important to recognize and use, particularly in relation to theology or religious history. Certainly using it as an insult would be inappropriate, but in a discussion about religion being able to frankly discuss why you consider a particular sect or tradition heretical is... probably important.

E: Also I'm now getting kind of tempted to try to make something like a shipping chart of heresy. Get as many major (or not) religious denominations together and start making links based on type and extent of divergence. Maybe separate them out by umbrella religion, maybe not.

This... this drink. Some kind of offbrand "red" creme soda. It tastes like kindergarten suffering.

More explicitly, it is a dead ringer for the "bubblegum" (scare quotes very, very needed) mouthwash they used to have kids use before PE, when I was that age. Why in the name of zeus's third testicle someone thought this was a good idea to produce and sell is something unknowable. How by the vacancies of his fourth it managed to sell enough to be worth continuing to produce, is beyond even that.

It tastes bad, folks. It tastes really, really bad. And yet some mad franchise out there stocks it.

It's worth waiting for a discount. S'alright game, and probably worth eight bucks if you were under a time limit where the funds are usable, but it's also probably not good enough to impulse buy if you can stand waiting for it to go lower.

Pretty sure most signs pointed towards a lot more than just that, though, neo. Lou's home life would probably have ended up with at least her mom in jail, were it in more modern times. Her mother wasn't very good at being one. Heart was arguably in the right place, but that was about it.

Also not just being looked down on, if the work was much to go by. You had folks openly mocking her in the middle of classes -- multiple ones, and by all appearances ones not part of any habitual harassing group. That points to a pretty seriously messed up social situation, to say the least. "Looked down on" doesn't cover the likely severity when stuff like that's happening.

L being abused and suffering an apparently wide spread and persistent bullying etc. campaign... well, it still doesn't excuse being abusive (to the extent it actually was, and not just anime tropes being themselves), because precisely bloody nothing does that, but it certainly explains a lot of it. Significant social maladaption/ostracization, severe class-related issues, all on top of an upbringing that would be abusive by almost any standard and hammered in a really messed up set of values, particularly in relation to personal strength. Then tossed on top of a series of events that would break a lot of (most, really) people in two, psychologically. If you're trying to take the series particularly seriously on that front you're dealing with a spectacularly fucked up set of main characters.

WTF invoking way to start the day #N+1: Being told people are coming over to stay for a few days the day before they arrive. When half the house is approaching a disaster area (I've been sick-ish-er than normal lately, so maintenance has largely been left to other house people, which, uh. Doesn't work anymore.).

Like. Why did y'all not see fit to mention this, say, a week ago? Or at least a day or two? No, it doesn't matter that they're close enough a mess isn't really a problem. If it was just a bit of a mess it wouldn't be. It's not. Or wasn't this morning, anyway. Fair amount's already been shifted somewhere else (mostly the garbage, tbh -- I'm not quite in purge mode* but it's getting close).

*That's the point where more things get set of fire than are already set of fire, and the possibility of generations old family heirlooms ending up in the trash increases substantially.

Incidentally, early voting is probably open wherever TBF is. Go vote, TBF.

Doesn't deathnote run along those lines? Not quite directly but fairly close.
