Other Games / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild

That... looks a lot like a very large, very purple, moblin. Actually almost makes me sad they're not taking a chance to go back to the dog-head ones...

Man, on one hand I don't think it really applies to clinton, but on the other hand I'm not sure how good a defense "only happens in poorly written movies" is this election cycle. Trump's been trying to hit all the bullet points associated with those for months.

Other Games / Re: Nintendo Switch

Name: Using a verb for a name...? It's not the end of the world but it just seems odd to me.
Switch is also a noun. Has been for a long, long time. Light switch, that thing with railroads, the thin branches et al probably best known as a corporal punishment tool. Apparently some kind of hair thing, too.

Part of me is now wondering if the name is a subtle declaration of intent to beat the ass off the competition. E: And to be fair, Nintendo's home country is very fond of that sort of wordplay. This is getting more suspicious the more I think about it...

... though, it's probably worth noting. Again. Since it seems to be coming up, again. At least insofar as the raw payment for the speeching stuff. 100k is normal for significantly notable figures. 200k is normal for the upper ranges of that (over the entirety of their speaking career to date, the clintons average out to about 225 per appearance, if I'm remembering what I checked yesterday). Your normal relatively unknown speaker comes in in the 50-60k range. These aren't outlandish sums being bandied about.

And when you're talking people like a former POTUS, his first lady and a later secretary of the state, they're not unreasonable, either. You're trying to tap one of the most unique people on the planet, with a body of experience and breadth of connections that are bloody close to unmatched by anyone else alive, who are/were still significantly active. The fact of the matter is that that's some damned expensive time you're trying to book by any sane measure, and that would be true for pretty much anyone in any field, political, industrial, entertainment, academic, military, whatever, that was an equivalent figure.

... no, it's not. At all.

Though I do want to take a moment and remind folks that clinton has said cat .gifs are an appropriate reaction to exposure to this year's election cycle. So if you watched, listened to, or read that debate and feel the need to degauss with fuzzy feline frolicking, know that a presidential candidate endorses your choice in life.

9352
Eh... probably an aspect of it, but most of that boom has less to do with sexism and more to do with media coverage. More a specifically anti-clinton thing than anti-women... though the latter tends to catch some of the shrapnel anyway.

9353
Yeah, that was probably the biggest single thing of the entire debate. Folks are already starting to come down on him like a ton of bricks for it. Started pretty much the second it squelched its way out of his mouth.

... y'know, I just noticed reading some other reactions to this mess that trump may have just libeled obama (and clinton) on national TV. Specifically in reference to that o'keefe/veritas video he brought up. If you're going to make a claim of inciting violence like he did you generally want to have really damn good evidence. And, uh. The video wasn't, given its maker's track record. Not sure if you could actually hit him with anything given the nature of the folks involved (it's harder to trip over that stuff when you're talking about major public figures), and I doubt charges would actually be pressed regardless, but...

I feel like I've been transferred to some sort of alternate dimension when people say Russia and the Syrian government aren't fighting ISIS. They've been fighting ISIS for years now. Am I just misinterpreting the people saying Trump is lying about that in some way?
I think the idea is that Russia & Syrian government don't focus on fighting ISIS as if they were their main opponent, instead mainly engaging with FSA. But it would be too long for a political soundbite to say all that context, so it's simply "Russia doesn't fight ISIS".
Yeah, iirc that was... mostly from the bit about the A-place? With the point being it was the named parties that did some/most of the damage that lead trump to try to state the city had been conquered or... something. Which the transcript that got posted while I was typing answered, I guess.

Though yeah, re: georgia, people have to remember that atlanta's in that mess, too. I'm sure no one wants to actually remember that, because no one sane actually wants to travel through atlanta be it air or tire or foot, but the metro area's there, it's urban, and it's fairly cosmopolitan thanks in no small part to that sodding airport. More pointedly for the state going blue, only around half the metro area's population is white and about half the bloody state's population is in there. So at least a forth of the state's population? Probably not voting red.

Wasn't actually watching the video, myself, mostly. She sounded more cheerful, though.

Also learned over the course of this debate that Donald Trump body pillows are apparently a thing that exists. I think it made my life a little darker, a little sadder.

9357
Technically, yes. If enough people wrote him in.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O
« on: October 19, 2016, 09:16:23 pm »
Nothing, really. Some mother cats just don't manage to raise the kittens, especially if it's a first litter. More than that, it's entirely possible the kittens are sick, which can cause a mother cat to abandon them to save themselves (and possibly other kittens). Other stuff beyond that, too... it's not that uncommon, and not particularly abnormal.

... though if they're a month old, they should be able to start eating own their own already, or soon will.

Incidentally, we apparently had an abandoned kitten ditched today, too, heh. Old enough to eat solid food, fortunately enough. Dunno if it can poop on its own yet, though :-\

That just means the next wave in clacky keyboards are going to be amazing. They're going to be built so the press noise is randomized :3

Look, even if it was true, a 5% markup in exchange for a project that invests in something actually useful is "extremely little corruption" by my (i.e. Russia's) standards.
Also doesn't give any background behind the 2011 promise. If it was for speaking fees, ferex, that would have covered around 5-ish appearances by bill on the upper end, quite possibly less given where it is. Could have just been a birthday donation of some sort, which wouldn't exactly be unusual for, y'know. A charity organization, particularly one as well known as the clinton foundation. Unfortunately, if there was any news giving reason behind the promised donation before this year, it doesn't seem to be online. And the email says sod all, obviously enough.

Not sure where the -8 million net worth thing's coming from, though. Checking some news from back in '08, it looks more like ~21m. Checking a bit more, it looks like it did hit that back in '01, apparently due mostly to legal fees. Bill brought in ~13m in speaking fees the same year, which at that below mentioned 200k/pop (though it was probably lower that year) would only have been about 65 speaking events.

And it's around 200k a show for bill at this point, isp, apparently. As a base line -- it can fluctuate up and down, obviously enough. One of the higher paid speakers out there, most definitely, but it's not apparently not abnormal by any means. It's probably worth noting that for a few years trump was doing 1.5 million per.

Though, uh. Yeah, per that bloomberg article's actual contents, pass-through type arrangements for businesses (particularly any with much in the way of legal and/or accounting budgets) are... pretty normal. Been long enough I've forgot a fair few of the details regarding those sorts of setups, and don't recall much about that particular sort, but there's at the very least a number of book keeping benefits. Never mind anything involving legal concerns (and before anyone kvetches about that, legal compartmentalization is pretty much literally the primary reason incorporation exists, and it's there for good reason) or taxation.
