It usually isn't, from what I recall. Debates matter but they don't often cause really big shifts.

Angband is... not the most lore friendly, though. The original, anyway. Not as bad as zang descendants, but that's not exactly saying much.

Some the variants actually try, but as mentioned I've forgotten which of the various letter prefixes they are, heh.

... were pandas involved? Fending off the murderbears seems like an argument gun folks wouldn't mind using in favor.

... well, it's not open world, but there's Sil. It's definitely a LotR inspired roguelike, and by and large one of the better ones mechanically as well as being more true to the source than just about any other one currently available.

There's also a handful of *band variants based on LotR, several more thematic than the old ToME stuff was and still having a world map and whatnot. Forget what most of 'em are called at the moment, though. Pretty sure you can find a few over on the angband ladder, though. Can always browse around roguebasin, too, of course.

As far as I know, though, the closest to an open world tolkien roguelike you're going to get, at the moment, are angband variants, the older ToMEs (T2, mostly, with T3 to a degree. T4, the latest one, has diverged from the LotR roots pretty heavily) included. Fantasy based ones are a significantly larger pool to choose from, but it depends a lot there on what exactly you're looking for; like ToME, like ADOM, like Elona, or whathaveyou. Browsing around roguebasin is going to find you plenty, and you can pick and choose from there.

If all else fails, explode in a ball of fiery rage and rain down upon the landscape. Always a good last resort, especially if you get actual fire involved.

Huh. Never really had that problem, myself. Might have come from generally taking in strays? Even the cats we did keep inside most/all of the time didn't tend to do that sort of stuff, or at least cleaned up after themselves.

Have had more of that from outside cats, actually. Bits of various animals decorate the porch to varying degrees from time to time, when it was quite rare for inside cats. Usually momma cats doing the teachy-thing but *shrugs*

E: Well, them and dogs in general. There was one point we ended up with a cat's litter spread across most of the living room floor. That dog was given away pretty quickly. Not its fault, really, but... yeah.

... what even counts as the head in those cases? Head of state? Some number of miles from the northernmost region? Highest mountain? What do you have to cut off to quicken geography?

Indeed. This is what we call a "win/win", so long as you don't have to clean up the mess.

And you usually don't, even if they decide to play for a while.

This why you have cats. Then even if you need a trap and the mouse does survive you just have to point the cat at it and let nature take its course.

Or dogs, I guess. Most breeds are less likely to get along with eating the thing, though.

Though having cats around generally means you just don't have (or at least notice) mouse infestations. Also means you might have missing other pets if you have hamsters get lose or something, but those damned vermin get whatever's coming to them and good riddance.

Eehh... honestly, from what I can tell not really. It is looking like the first really major storm to hit in a while but that's... not really saying much, in and of itself. Depends on what happens next, but so far it's looking like FL is going to come out pretty lightly, at least inasmuch as notable hurricanes go.

Now if the thing u-turns and gets into the gulf who the fuck knows what's going to happen. Other than everyone along the coast praying it goes to a different part of the coast than where they're at. And doesn't just kinda' chill for a while building itself up to the point that Charybdis manifests in reality and lays waste to the entire south and south-east region.

Yeah, good luck to the rest of you, at the mo. Forecast for my area isn't even predicting rain, and wind only in the 20ish range. Probably change if the thing does boomerang, but...

Hey, you can actually find them in normal bookstores now. That's more mainstream than it used to be :V

Oddly enough the (political, anyway) ads I've been seeing while playing stick rangers on the kindle have almost entirely been positive clinton ads with the occasional attack on trump. Couldn't say what's on the TV, because it hasn't been turned on since tuesday and I usually try to ignore it anyway, but there you go. Noticed a definite slant towards her earlier work with kids, too.

US did pretty well during the same time period, though, and a fair few others over the years managed to varying degrees. Generally the thing seems to be putting them in camps or using them as labor, Av, if you don't just shoot them and not have to worry about much besides corpse disposal.
