General Discussion / Re: Would you want your SO to Fight for your honor?

Generally no, to the question. They're going to need a better reason than that if they want any help getting out of jail or dealing with the legal fees. I guess if they're okay with that and sufficiently wealthy to tank the costs I couldn't really stop 'em but collecting assault charges is definitely not something I look for in a partner's behavior.

... though now I'm kinda' curious how often shows actually show that aspect of things. I know I've seen it, like. Once. But generally the MC or whatever cheerfully decks some person in broad daylight in front of witnesses and you never get to hear about the pressed charges or the jail time or the bail and all that.

Working on it, anyway. We're already producing peripherals, we just need some more advances in A/VR. And thought control of electronics is coming along, if slowly, too. A matrix for every potential law breaker.

I thought the seduction immune tag was just [female] (because apparently there are no lesbians in Dominions).
Preeeetty sure it's not. It's just that female's close to it, because there aren't many male seducers. and by not many I mean there's two Easiest way to check would probably be with mari (troubadours) or LA pythium (satyr via the orgy spell).

Do want to say it's entirely het, though. And I had forgotten about the bear claw. Presumably the cat charm works the other way for any male seducers...

huh

I still need to watch those. I've read probably a couple dozen fanfics that involved crossovers with it at this point, but I've still not seen any of the series itself :V

Still applies much of the time, unfortunately. Lawyer might break the bank but it'll break it less than trying to go it alone, more often than not. Usually rather significantly so. That's just about the only bit of legal advice that's actually universal and cross-jurisdiction. Other notables include stuff like "don't cuss out the judge" and "don't punch the cops when you're in court". You'd think that sort of the thing would be obvious, but unless you're looking for business related legal advice (in which case for the nonexistent gods' sake you need a lawyer even worse) that kind of thing is apparently an oddly difficult sort of behavior to suss out.

'Course, if it's not an option it's not an option, but in that case trust absolutely no one that doesn't caveat most of what they say with something along the lines of "This is probably going to go poorly." Along with the good ol' sidealong to check local laws and regulations, because whatever advice they're giving has better than even odds of being either inapplicable or outright counterproductive for whatever your situation is.

Seriously though, online legal advice is a horrible, horrible idea. If it's your last option it's your last option but you'd be better off walking around the local streets or something asking business owners or whoev'. Just about anything except asking for legal advice online, really. Still, you can try. Just... be warned, and all that. It's not good juju.

Oh hey, that thing. The one single thing I actually found appealing about paranoia agent :V

Had it my playlists for... years. Many years. Very fun to whistle along with.

Eyup. Disease, scale effects, and the critter killing (holy fire et al) stuff are the only ones that operate while unfound, iirc. Ah, and unrest stuff, I do believe.

Death site is indeed the obvious. Other options are something with the bane venom charm effect, enemy units that spread disease in combat, spells that cause disease (iirc those come in both combat and artillery form), a series of terrible events, or starvation. Probably some things I'm forgetting but I do believe those are the major ones.

Pretty sure you can use whatever you want on those account names, though. No need to tie it to your real name, or even use the same account for more than one post, if you really feel like going whole hog.

... also, asking for legal advice online is an incredibly, incredibly bad idea, for about a half dozen different reasons. The possibility of being identified as you offline is only one of them. Just... throwing that out there. The only genuinely good response you can get from that is "Consult a local lawyer." :-\

Which part? As small town politickin' goes most of that was fairly straightforward :-\

... you do know that familiarity of some degree actually increases the chance of quite a number of crimes, right? Not sure how much theft is among 'em, but "knowing each other" also makes it a lot more likely someone (either a direct relation or someone familiar with them) will know exactly where you're going to be and where your shit is.

Out here, you may be a thief and people may know it, but it's also damn likely you know someone that's willing to employ you if it comes down to that regardless, or at least someone that has enough clout with a workplace to get you in. Family, someone you've got blackmail on or illicit bonds with, etc., etc., etc. Reputation is one thing but corruption likes to run damn deep in these places. And among other things it's real damn easy to exploit the kinds of closeness that likes to build up in these shitholes to happily roll along having a good reputation with one set of folks while shitting on another, and playing off the blandishments of the latter as various sorts of lies and slander. Half the town might know you're scum but the other half'll know you're a saint and the first half is bugnuts for one reason or another. Crap like that is bloody common, and that lessened anonymity means any particular person is going to be a lot less likely to call another a liar to their face and, more importantly, treat them like one. So even if you know they're scum it's not terribly unlikely you're not going to act like it, just 'cause the effect that'll have on your reputation with folks besides said scum.

... own anecdotal experience says that the less people there are, the less likely they are to turn to an outside group to deal with problems. Crime's never really seemed particularly out of whack between cities and small towns, t'me, it's just that things are significantly less likely to be publicized or pursued in the latter. Know for a fact any official numbers on rural/small town crime rates, at least insofar as actual convictions and arrests and whatnot go, are completely fucked, though. I'd probably guess half or less of shit that would see a cop in a city ever reaches one out in the boonies, never mind all the stuff that does but gets dropped or ignored or dealt with off the record. Rural areas are still damn full of "trash humans", they're just better at hiding it from outsiders.
