... you do realize you're calling several billion USD worth of money added per annum -- not counting replacements -- "not much", right? About 95% of the states' printed money per year goes to replacements, but that still leaves several hundred million new bills worth a number of billions.

It's not much compared to the GDP but it's still a pretty ruddy big pile of dosh by most folks' estimate, and one that cheerfully adds up over time.

Leave the rest to someone else, but still.

... mostly because we haven't actually replaced our politicians with robots, yet. The seat thing's there to keep shit from getting too unwieldy. If all they were doing was giving a vote it wouldn't really matter much, but there's a hell of a lot more a representative is expected to do, and a lot of that involves interacting with other representatives. If there's fifty thousand representatives good goddamn luck with that.

Pretty sure valkyrie drive actually qualifies as softcore porn in a number of countries. Just not where it's produced, heh.

Today I have met a person that thinks a fairly richly upholstered chair -- pretty big, faux leather, fine stuffing, etc., etc., the kind of thing you see behind a large solid wood desk in someone's home office -- is going to last any meaningful amount of time outside in florida weather.

It's, like. Yes, it's not going to get directly rained on (probably, sometimes the rain decides horizontal is a fun direction to travel). But humidity. Dew. Bugs. Heat, even without direct sunlight. The chair was already not in the most amazing of shape, really. Far from bad, but it's definitely used. And now it's been given the death knell of decaying furnishings. Within a few months, the stuffing will be molding and infested with bugs (ticks, fleas, bedbugs, who knows! The floridian roulette of vermin infestation has many results, none of them good), the covering will be chewed upon by who knows what, and there's non-negligible odds the wood involved in its construction will have started to either warp or rot. God help anything that's metal and exposed -- there's some that can manage that, but they're generally not used in chairs designed for interior use.

Folks. There's a reason if it's sitting outside in florida, it probably doesn't have much on it, and what it does is probably cheap, easily removable for cleaning, or of a material that doesn't weather hard. This chair is none of the above (though I think it was got cheaply, even if the original cost wasn't).

... there being worse doesn't mean it's not particularly bad.

Bleh. Second time in the last few months we've noticed grandparent forgot to pay a bill for... a few months. Last payment in july, just put one in the mail today. Lost the mail from 'em, didn't remember they were behind, etc. Starting to look like someone else (probably me) will need to start keeping track of that instead of giving the person the benefit of the doubt that they're on top of things. Another sign of a mind going to rot from age, which is as unpleasant as ever :-\

... have you actually checked to see clinton's platform regarding environmental protection, rol? She does actually have incentive to care about the environment, and it's called the democratic party, among other things.

And no, it's not an illusion of representation. You get out what gets put in. If you're not getting enough out, y'got some work to do to get more folks to put in. Yeah it sucks when your pet issue gets kinda' shat on, but that's how majorities work. If you don't have the support, that both agrees that something needs to be done and how to go about it, you're not going to get much out of a democratic system. Unfortunately, environmental stuff only has the first part of that, at best.

And track it, msh. If you think fuckall is going to be done, look and see. I'd wager better than half, myself, and most of the rest not due to lack of trying.

This... thing. Soul Armor Recollect. Android app. Action RPG... sorta'. What it is, is a ARPG by way of arkanoid, with the player playing the part of the ball, sans bumper. Enemies are made of blocks. You flick your character at the blocks, and win when you smash them all away with your face, aided by weapon-locked skills of varying complexity and a limit break that turns you invincible and shoves a rocket up yer arse for a few seconds. While you're doing that, the enemies are jumping around, firing projectiles at you, occasionally shooting lasers and whatnot... it's not quite bullet-hell level (at least up to the point I've played... it might be later on), but it's definitely the same ethos. Other than that, you move around a map clearing it out, fighting occasional multi-fight battles, collecting loot and mastering your equipment, (theoretically) trying to find out what the hell happened to you, the empty suit of amnesiac armor walking around that's had a talking flying cat(?) take up residence inside your body.

There's not really much too it, just a rather impressively engaging battle system and basic loot/grind/repeat mechanics... but the battle system really is engaging and quite nice for a pick up and play, put down and come back sort of thing. Plus it's free, so there's that.

Various other considerations... there are ads. Small banner at the bottom, video ones you can opt to do for extra loot, the rare push to review (or "revue", as the game calls it). Overall pretty unobtrusive by mobile app standards, but it's there. Beyond that, the overall gameplay and whatnot is pretty shallow and definitely same-y, and even the considerations added by your ever increasing menagerie of weapon skills doesn't do much to change that -- what you get an hour in will probably be mostly what you get ten or twenty later, too. And the writing... well, it's pretty obviously translated. And the translation is... not good. I've definitely seen worse (much worse) but if spelling/plot/grammar/etc. problems trouble you this is definitely something to avoid. You're not here for the plot, regardless.

Anyway, tiny thing, surprisingly engaging/well done combat of a style I've not seen much of, wrapped in a light crust of RPG, served cold on your mobile. Decent way to burn a few minutes if you feel like doing something fun and fun to watch that doesn't take much in the way of thinking.

Democracy is a lie, even in America.
Everyone in America could want a change of pace and it wouldn't matter, we'd still get a another Rep or Dem figurehead.  No wonder people tried to vote for the ineffectual change candidate, and are now flocking to the "fuck ALL this" candidate.
... no, if everyone actually wanted change it'd be pretty trivial to get someone that wasn't a republican or democrat, assuming they wanted someone that wasn't a republican or democrat. Like, if everyone actually wants change it wouldn't be particularly difficult to rewrite most or all of the constitution, nevermind something less involved or far reaching. Time consuming, but that's about it. People voted for the change candidate or the fuckitall candidate for all sorts of reasons, anger at the status quo they're not capable enough to get to change the way they want at the moment just one of them.

Thing is, a lot of folks don't much want change, or at the least don't want the same sort many other folks do. So like in a proper democracy the wheels just sorta' spin in place. Because you don't have much in the way of consensus. That's democracy working, not being a lie. It just happens that because no sufficiently large body of the polity can agree certain shit needs to be done and how, the shit doesn't get done.

Now, you can say there's a problem with that lack of consensus, but that doesn't really mean the system itself is broke. Just that folks are being stubborn and not letting it work all that well, from one point of view or another.

... y'know, now I just want to know what it'd take to consider that imperative completed. Are we talking a certain amount of fluids per square meter, per capita, coverage on notable landmarks, what sort of heuristic are we meeting before we can agree that venice has been fucked? How many faces are we talking, here, and how thoroughly?

More, if you accept that that ongoing plot isn't something you want anything to do with. Most day-time soaps actually seem to have a non-negligible amount of action sequences in 'em, ferex, if not quite as action-y as your average series or movie focused on it. And they have an ongoing plot! It's just, y'know. You probably want to vigorously advance to the rear the moment there's even the suggestion you may be stuck having to interact with said plot. Maybe promptly defenestrate yourself if you're high enough off the ground and there's a near enough window.

Think it's sorta' true for a lot of cop dramas and whatnot, too -- still fairly episodic or whatev', but with overarching plotlines and such alongside 'em. Hell, a lot of 'em pretty much nail lev's list dead on, from what I can recall of being stuck in hearing/sight distance of the damned things. It's just that they're kinda' shit, and the plot is of the sort you might have a more enjoyable time inserting rusty nails into your frontal lobe.

... if those were your go-to for trying to remember an anime that tones down or avoids the sexual stuff, I don't think you're actually thinking at all, nevermind needing to think harder :V

Yeah, that's gate. Also maybe avoid the manga if that was crossing your mind. Apparently the LNs, too, though I haven't experienced those myself. Haven't watched the anime (and won't), but from what I've picked up it's probably the version with the least amount of... problems.
