General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Huh. Encountered Zhen (link should be clean, it's to baka manga/manga updates, just basic info on it), something I've never seen before -- yaoi manga involving a male harpy.

Not, like, actually interested in reading it or anything (most of the summary blurb is just... no), but you don't see male harpies very often to begin with, much less in longer form works. Most of the artwork I saw was kinda' meh -- generic higher quality boylove style, basically, for those that are aware of what that looks like -- but the wings were actually remarkably well done. Some variety of parrot looking, too, which is double unusual for harpies.

Anyway, wasn't expecting it on several levels, so here we are.

There were a great many jokes made about that car, too, heh.

Humza if he was Swedish could have been forced into "hummer" which is Swedish for lobster, but I think in English that's slang for blowjob?
For a specific sort of one, actually. It gets the name from involving, well, humming.

The enhanced editions are on google play, yes. They're optimized for tablet, but they'll apparently run on a phone.

I... wait. The tip is that, when you don't have writer's block... stop writing? Something about that seems, uh. Less than workable...?

I mean, my eyes remain in their sockets instead of gouged out, so no :V

E: Though, uh, even if I turn default theme back on (out of morbid curiosity), it still isn't because I'm using windows high contrast mode to fix the system's coloration to be less painful, and that mostly renders default theme my, well, system colors. Which aren't white and blue. There's some of that mess in the images that make up the theme, because basically no websites play nicely with accessibility options, but not much.

And now back to darkling, may I never see default again.

E2: For reference, with high contrast on default looks like
Spoiler: this (click to show/hide)
It's like the worse of several different worlds. The last few years have actually given me something of a personal sympathy for folks that actually rely on accessibility options, instead of just using them to improve their browsing experience. After using high contrast this long, it's become abundantly clear that designing around accessibility functions is a very, very low priority for an extreme supermajority of website designers.

e3:for completeness sake, darkling in high contrast to see the difference:

It could probably be better, but it's at least an improvement of several orders of magnitude over default.

... using autocorrupt as an example, of all things. You're trying to prove AI has already developed malice, aren't you?

That... those things were popularized by the honor harrington books, weren't they? Least that's the thing I recall that concept (missiles that fly out and then fire lasers) being referenced to the most.

Go for it? No reason not to, there's apparently recipes online for all sorts of protein powder baking.

It's one of the bits about the game where if you have a background familiarity with xianxia/martial arts fantasy, you'd probably realize ahead of time eating something called Origin: Fire would probably make your head asplode. It's like thinking it's a good idea to nibble on the core of a star or a somehow solidified fragment of the big bang or somethin', heh.

I now remember why I love math, when I am on the cusp of proving something, haven't even confirmed the proof but it seems to work so well, I feel like a madman I feel like a god, I feel so good now.

Edit: Well, I feel more like a madman now, the proof fell apart, still felt good though
What you said

Yeah, I think that's the first time I've seen the name, and a cursory google doesn't show anything I'm inclined to care much about. Are they supposed to matter for some reason?

I... just hope that relief is well placed. People get a not guilty verdict despite factually having molested children on the regular, unfortunately. State of the courts being what they are, being not guilty just means they weren't guilty beyond a reasonable doubt (or whatever the local equivalent is, or that the judge was particularly bribeable/willing to look the other way, or etc., etc., etc.), not that they weren't guilty :-\ Though guilty verdicts are unfortunately in a similar state, sometimes folks get hit with charges basically by default, the defense lawyer fucking up or something of similar intent, and it still ends up with them in jail and a felony record regardless.

If there's also a civil trial involved, keep an eye on that. The degree of evidence needed there is less abusable, and often how folks that manage to get out of criminal charges still see at least some repercussions for misdeeds.

I don't think I could have possibly beaten this as a kid.  You have to be almost perfect with getting green boosts on zippers, and on top of that you have to know that you need to let off of the A button afterward to get extra boost out of it.
You absolutely do, and as a kid it takes you hours and hours and hours and many, many many failed attempts. I 100%'d that game as a kid back in the 90s, and it took months, probably well over a hundred hours of raw gameplay by the end of it.

Iirc there's things you just flat out cannot do without using the chicken, nothing else (well, other than the clock) can go fast enough. Some of the last bits of the collectables are just friggin' insidious.

e: Like, I've forgotten most of that game by this point, but I do distinctly remember being an engine of hate for parts of it by the time I was done. Kid frumple did not understand the profundity of the sunk cost fallacy being a fallacy. Put all that time into the damn thing gonna' finish it *gnashing of teeth*
