DF Gameplay Questions / Re: *ahem* uhm... how to tunnel down?

You can't dig up into a lake, but you can dig a tunnel and then lay a channel over it to the same effect.

So will it not drain off the side of the map if the edge is lower down than it?

Because that is completely awesome.

DF Gameplay Questions / Eruptions
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:30:00 pm »
Did Toady implement volcanic eruptions in his last release or something? Couldn't find any information on this. As time goes on the volcano at my fort (which everything has been built on top of, in a stunning feat of real estate brilliance) has been looking more and more like this:

Draining lava off into a side vent further down doesn't seem to change anything, and it's starting to flow over its edges. So, is everyone gonna die or what?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Sand collection cancelled?

Yeah, it's showing sand collection spaces. It's normal, black sand, which I figured was some special useless kinda sand until I noticed in the wiki entry it's just like any other.

Sorry for the revive, exact same problem. Human town, both underground and overground sand collection zones but neither get recognized. Has anyone found a solution to this in the intervening time?

DF Gameplay Questions / Water and wounded
« on: December 10, 2007, 11:40:00 am »
So I just dealt with my fortress's first real invader, a legendary Titan. Despite having no weapons but the axes my woodcutters came with and a couple of crossbows with about five bolts apiece, I took it down with only one loss because I am awesome.

My awesomeness did not extend, however, to preventing about half the fort from getting wounded in some way while they beat a tore a giant flashing death machine apart with their bare hands. And herein lies the problem, because I'm on an ocean map and the dorfs refuse to touch any water anywhere, no matter if it comes from the ponds or the aquifier or wherever. I just patched it not recently- do the recent patches fix the water fetch bug to include alcohol or allow any drinking whatsoever on maps with bad water? It'd kinda suck to lose only one unit to the monster and then lose the entire rest to poor health care and alpha status.
