General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Technically, a queen bee screws her own male children quite frequently. So they do.

Yes but they're animals. They're not sapient on a level anywhere near approaching ours. To be grumpy at them for breeding with their children is anthropomorphising and not really relevant.

What if bees knew what I meant?
What if bees knew incest statistics?
What if bees were rape staticians?

Are you trying to say anything in particular or just saying nonsense for the sake it?

e: see above, i guess so

Incest is bad in the same sense that living near a nuclear power plant is bad: it probably won't hurt anything if it's a one-time deal, but if you keep doing it for generations things will end with extra heads and insanity.

From a page or two back, but it's pretty disingenuous to assume that people's issues with incest is purely a genetic issue, when in reality it's a massive issue with abuse of parental privilege and responsibility, and in many cases is just outright (sexual) abuse. I'm sure there's plenty of anecdotal tales about fathers and daughters falling in love, but the overwhelming majority of incest these days would come from rape and sexual assault, and not at all a consenting act between two albeit creepy people.

Wincest! It's not a thing.
What if bees commited incest?

what does that even mean

we do challenge each other. somewhat frequently. it's just that most people that come to bay12 appear to have a similar mindset to other bay12ers, resulting in fairly seamless assimilation integration.

I still don't see how it's a good thing, is all. It just creates the problems that Reddit has at the moment; an endless parade of shitlords who tow the line of the biggest power-users who define the culture of the site as 'think what I think' and they have a meltdown every time anyone, no matter how reasonable, interrupts them.

I've browsed the forums for a while now and I certainly can't recall the last time anyone challenged anyone where it wasn't shouted down as 'being mean' or 'going against the culture of the forum'. That's not a good environment to foster!

Yeah, I quite like the emotion threads. Interesting chatter.
For varying (sometimes by the post) definitions of interesting.
Jesus, WHY DOES EVERYTHING INTERESTING HAPPEN WHEN I AM OUT!?!

I spend limitless times on the forums waiting for something particularly stupid to occur, and when it does, I'm not even there to enjoy it!

I'm glad you think I'm stupid???

First time in a while I've seen someone be vocally (ah, textually, I suppose) adverse to the routine here, as opposed to either fitting right in or slipping silently into that good night. There's my WTF of the evening, I suppose.

That people who don't automatically carry the status quo is a 'what the fuck' moment to you is a pretty what the fuck moment to me, I guess. If all you want posting in threads is people that just go with the hivemind and post non-challenging things you agree with, then what's the point of posting? If all the content has the same voice, then it doesn't matter how many people are saying it, it's all the same pointless nonsense. I know some forums have problems with there being a new thread for any little thought being posted, but I'd rather there be a million threads for posting content to be discussed than a half-dozen megathreads where it seems to be the normal to not actually discussing any single thing in particular. You've just shifted the problem from 'a million pointless threads' to 'a million pointless posts'.

But whatever I guess. Every good forum needs a discussion on what stuff like this every now and then.

as long as you delete all the bad things(yes than means all the good games)clean up the pc and defrag it you will be fine.
go get one of those child  web site moniter/guard things.

real as long as thay dont find an old copy of your xxx or gore massacre 5.

I know, right. Gore Massacre 4 is art. The series went downhill from there, I'd be ashamed to be caught with a copy myself.

I don't understand. Your solution to threads that you admit go wildly off-topic and without set purpose for actual discussion is to... create another thread that does the exact same thing? I'm not new to the internet, but I appear to be new to forums where stuff like that is allowed to happen.

This just made me WTF'd all over the thread

Yeah irony is only funny if it's... funny.

Well I've got each page of a thread to 50 posts, so for the past two pages I've seen nothing but you guys invent weird internet relationships with each other, which I know became An Internet Thing because of Homestuck.

I'm allowed an attention span that's more than the last 5 posts of a thread.

yeah. STOP HAVING FUN GUYS! JEEZ.

It's not about 'not having fun'. I'm sure you guys and gals have a whole bunch of fun doing it. It's just that this is supposed to be a thread where you post things that you find that make you go 'what the fuck', not create the 'what the fuck' content itself.  Like I said, if you're going to have this huge emotion megathreads, you can't let them get meta otherwise they bottom out as contentless nonsense pretty quickly. If it tickles you to have pretend relationships with people on the internet, that's your thing, but that's not this thread.

Yeah that's not a creepy thing on the internet at all. If you guys want to roleplay weird Homestuck sex with each other, couldn't you take that to the Roleplaying part of the forums? Otherwise this entire thread would fill up with you all softcore molesting each other and people just reacting to it. A WTF thread shouldn't get meta.

Life Advice / Re: Windows XP, 7 or 8?
« on: October 27, 2012, 04:41:59 pm »
Go with 7 - either way you go, it'll break a lot of your old games, but 7 has been around for long enough now that the most popular ones have had workarounds figured out.

Don't get a touchscreen. They're great on phones, tablets, and POS systems, but you're honestly not going to be using it more than a mouse on a day-to-day basis. If you're going to get something 'extra' on a monitor, get 3D support, because that shit is cool as tits and tonnes of games are supporting it.

If they manage to recover deleted porn, they deserve to see it.

Parenting, amiright.

The problem is not that kids will look and see porn if they want to, the problem is Nadaka doesn't want to enable or condone the access of it by inaction on his part. I'm sure that they'd probably not bother looking in all likelihood, but a little bit of honest 'I did everything I could to make sure it couldn't happen' is about the least you can do. It's better to be more paranoid than probably justified in this situation, because do you really want to be dealing with the fallout if it all goes pear-shape?

Well what library are you using? They each have about three different ways to load JSON via AJAX. If you want to roll your own, security features prohibits javascript from accessing local files, so you'd need to serve them via a server and still end up doing the exact same thing anyway.

For JSON you'd use whatever built-in AJAX methods your library of convenience uses. JSON is already a subset of javascript, so there's nothing really flash about it that requires anything third-party.

I think I can confidently predict that the end of the world will be so boring that nearly no-one will even bother talking about it the next day.

45
So apparently our modern day survival horror game based around the fears of 12-year-old children is going to take place during colonial times.  Because colonial times.  I know, right?  Because I've always wondered what 12-year-olds were afraid of 300 years ago.  So much so that we need to make an entire 2 hour game out of it.  *sigh*

I dunno, that sounds pretty interesting. If you only make things that you're personally interested in you'd end up stunting yourself as a creative person pretty quick. It's good to try things as 'jobs' rather than 'hobbies', and it's not like a colonial setting has nothing interesting at all about it that you could work with.

And I'd wager that 12 year olds today would be worried about the same sort of thing as 12 year olds 300 years ago, just the context has changed. Growing up, adjusting to new responsibilities, keeping up with the expectations of family members, being mauled by bears. Typical pre-teen stuff.
