vjek's titan extermination challenge (look it up) is a nice place to start I'd say.
No migrants, no trade, no invaders. Only megabeasts and the like will attack.
Soil everywhere to get farming up and running. Flux, iron.

It did not rezoom IIRC.
The first was a controlled and perfectly normal cave-in, but I'm not sure the second cave-in zoomed.
If memory serves well, I was setting up the farm under the second cave in when it happened. I instantly checked whatever could have happened, but my checklist is really short on that: mining (no mining orders) and thawing (summer in a glacier embark? Yeah but why would it thaw underground?).

Worldgen cookbook thread will help you. As long as you are not extra ultra mega specific, we can do it. But "good" is really vague and there are a vast number of examples of "good" embarks in this thread.

So, somehow i got two successive cave-ins.

Z-2

With W as Wall, I as Ice, . as open space, F as Floor and _ as future farm plot.
This is an approximation of my situation (in truth, I is an 11x11 block of ice). Naturally, I at Z-1 dropped and transformed into water. Nothing new here.
However, one month and no thawing later (glacier embark, frozen all the time), i get the message that a section of the cavern has collapsed.
Another cave-in? why?

Whatever happens, this will be the fortress I'll submit for the 10 hour challenge. Currently 1 hour in.

Just to be sure about the rules:
I did Fortress One in 3 hours and 13 minutes and it was destroyed by outside forces. Do I reclaim and save it and submit it, or do I still have 6 hours and 47 minutes to do a better fort?

Your strength has been broken.
Oh god, year 2 4-squad elf ambush followed by undead siege.
Well, that was fun.

I've been doing the screw pump training for a time now, but i never see a noticeable increase. Maybe because it's too slow?
Is the increase a fixed amount? Should it be fast? By the time they reach legendary +5, should they have reached the maximum increase?

First day of Spring.
The storms have ended. The filthy goblins haven't given up, in spite of the cold, the hunger and the thirst.
Strand extraction has begun. Silver minecarts are being constructed. Our fearless leader expects us to kill the invaders, and we will prevail!

22nd of Granite.
Discouraged by the smell of the decaying bodies of their comrades, the goblins have run.
Crawl back to the gutter from whence you came, scum!

First day of autumn.
In the name of Armok! Why would I be sieged by humans?

A vile force of darkness has arrived!
Having heroically broken the last measly siege (one goblin squad, mounted leader) via traps, the Glacial Trumpets have enjoyed a period of relative tranquility, broken only by the attack of a werezebra, some crundles and the discovery of admantine. Praise the miners!

However, not to be undone, the goblins are back. And now they want blood!

24th of Timber.
A large number of goblin squads have arrived. Unfazed by the snow storm outside their large mounts carry them all towards the entrance. The tocsin has been rung, and all workers are running towards the entrance, leaving the frozen ocean behind them,  maybe for a very long time.

25th of Timber.
The drawbridge is raised. The first echoes of warhorns are heard. Large footsteps approach...
Life goes on in the fortress.

26th of Timber.
The militia is waiting at the exit of the Trap Snake. This first defense is incomplete, but it will do for now.

1st of Moonstone.
Stalemate.
The Troll frontline has been caged or killed. The rest of the onslaught has been stopped but not defeated by picks, serrated disks, spears and hammers hidden in the walls. Our fearless leader is considering mining the adamantine and outfitting soldiers with weapons forged from this prodigious metal in order to break the siege.
For the dwarves as well as the goblins, this will be the longest winter.

10th of Moonstone.
Curses! The traps have jammed!
The fortress has been sealed. It is self-sufficient, but how long before Armok's wishes bring it down?

I always take a special care in setting my tree farm correctly. If only because strip mining a whole z-level takes a damn long time.
Well, seems there's something to add to the wiki, isn't there? Who's up for editing the "Ocean" page?
