DF Modding / modding special nobles - feedback on raw set-up please?

Hi all,

I haven't played DF since pre-pandemic, but am looking to get back into the game now that some things have settled down.  My question is this: Is it possible to mod in noble positions such as priests for the various deities and/or labor group leaders in the 47.05 version?  I'm looking at that one because I have a Mac and none of the 50.## versions seem to have a Mac port yet...

I do realize that this is pure flavor with no current in-game purpose or value.

Quick question: in V50, does setting "enemies" to [OFF] also stop forgotten beasts from coming into the caverns?  Thanks!

DF Gameplay Questions / Out of fish, permanently?

Hi all!

So I'm building a fort on a map where the only fish present are in the caverns.  I recently appear to have removed all fish from one of the cavern lakes (and haven't started fishing in the other caverns yet).  My question is this: is there any way to restore the fishable-fish populations once they've been fished out (DFHack's region-pops boost doesn't seem to do it)?  If not, is there any way to achieve sustainable fishing?

DF Modding / Adding pedestals to a 43.03 fort in 44.12 - SUCCESS!!!

Hi!

I have a fort that was generated in 43.03, then eventually ported to 44.12.  I know NCommander was able to add display pedestals to the Archcrystals save file, but can anyone give me a step-by-step "idiot's guide for dummies" explanation of how to do it in mine?  I realize that making a back-up of the save file is the first step, but I don't know what to do after that.

Hi!

Apologies if this has been asked somewhere else and I missed it.  I recently received my outpost liaison in a fort that got ported into 44.10 from 43.03.  The liaison said: "There is much to share...(Information added to Civilizations/World info)".

My question is: how do I find out what information was added?  When I look at those screens, nothing seems to have changed.   ???

Hey all,

If I design a track as follows:

where: = is a track with exits E/W
± is a track with exits E/W/N
| is a track with exits N/S
# is wall

Am I correct in thinking that there is a 50% chance that a given cart entering from N will exit E, and 50% chance that it will exit W?  (And equivalent for any other 90° orientation of the same diagram?)

DF Gameplay Questions / Hair-based thread stored using which settings?

This question may have been asked before, but if so, I haven't been able to find the relevant thread.  My question is thus: which stockpile settings should I use to get hair thread stored in a specific stockpile?  I'm talking about things like "horse hair thread," "muskox hair thread," "goat hair thread," etc. (in other words, the non-weavable threads). 

I'm trying to set up a stockpile that only accepts the non-weavable kinds, so that I can get my bookbinders to use only those, rather than the plant/wool/silk thread which has other uses.

DF Gameplay Questions / What happens if I refuse a citizenship petition?

Hi!

I have a long-term resident (petitioned two game years ago to stay as an entertainer) who now wants to be a citizen.  However, I've changed my mind and now want them to leave.  If I 'd'eny their citizenship request, will they forever be stuck as a long-term resident, or will they leave the fort to find someone else to sponge off of?

The wiki doesn't know.  :-\

All,

So I've been playing around with the createunit command of DFHack, and I was wondering the following things:

1) Is there a way to make the name actually appear in the creature's language rather than English?  (E.g. If I spawn a MOUNTAIN (dwarf), the name "ROPE" appears, instead of "GODEN".  The second name appears to work fine.)

2) Is there a way to either spawn a unit with specific skills, or to retrofit a unit (e.g. a previously-spawned unit) with specific skills?  (If yes, could someone walk me through the command sequence step-by-step?)

Hi!

I'm using 43.03, and I just used the manager to queue "make leather armor (135)".  I just got the notice "Make leather armor (135) has been completed."  However, there are only 66 suits of leather armor in my inventory (the rest is imported clothing, other than 4 fort-made dresses), and there is NO other leather clothing.

What happened?

Note: because of a bug (which was resolved for 43.04) I only had ONE manager job for the armor, so that's not the problem.

Edit:  I think I found it.  Somehow the armor was getting stored in the refuse pile  ??? and was degrading.  Now the question is, why was it getting put there...
