I've also have 2 FB in my 2nd and 3rd caverns. Maybe I should dig them a tunnel where I can trap them in the pit too.

I've tried shooting them from the top of the pit and there are crossbow goblins in the pit. They don't seem to shoot back though. My theory is that due to gravity they can't shoot up that high but because I'm shooting down it means that I can shoot them but they can't shoot me.

The pit is only 5-levels deep and I just had a Cyclops appear on the map. If I throw him down there too will he attack the goblins?

When ever I get a siege the goblins seem to bring large numbers so my solution is just to drop them in my pit. There is approximately 100 goblins, 50 cave crocodiles and 25 trolls. So I have more creatures in my pit than I have dwarves in my fortress. But the question is how do I deal with them? I can't flood the place because the crocs would survive and I can't cause a cave in above them because there's not enough rock to drop on them.
My plan was to filter out the building destroyers and then catch the rest in cages.
Or I could just get my archers to shoot them from high above.
What do you guys think?

The wiki doesn't directly specify how it's done but you may be able to try making large amounts of beer and have it taken to a stockpile in a burrow. Then you build a kitchen in the burrow and assign a dwarf to it. Hopefully they should only use the beer that's available to them to make the boozecooking.

I believe there is a mod like that called dwarf therapist but I've never tried it. However I think it would be a good idea to add it to the game.

Forgotten beast's secretions vary quite a lot. In my personal experience I've found that they have range. I think they can be blobs, liquids or gasses, It varies though.
However I think you should take this opportunity to put it in the bottom of a pit and use it as a way to dispose of goblins and pesky nobles your most useful dwarves.

I find on my current game I'm having the same problem and I find that if you de-constructed the depot then the traders will leave. Almost every season I destroy and reconstruct the depot for the next caravan, However when I do that they tend to leave a lot of the stuff they're carrying behind.

I've got a pit full of about 50 goblins so I will check to see what their combination of armour is.

EDIT: I sampled 10 goblins in the pit and found that they all wore the same thing: mail shirt & metal helm

No I hadn't noticed that. In that case I suppose the use of uranium oxide seems plausible.

This game is based at a time around 1400AD and uranium wasn't discovered until 1789.

Loo(k) at it and make sure that it's not forbidden. If that's not the problem then maybe you should try dumping it and then claiming it again after it's been dumped.
