Considering the last forgotten beast I encountered was an eyeless, mandibled, feathered magpie:

The Sauropod just kind of... fails in comparison.

My militia commander, in her wrestling days, was strangling or throwing crundles into walls left and right.

She didn't even get touched, but now she uses an axe, it's faster after all.

I saw great success using a saguaro rib log as a play now human.

I swear it killed faster than my legendary spearman did with his spear.

Sit on a large, unpleasant spike.

Eventually gravity will lower you enough on it that it comes out just below your neck.

Let's be honest, it should be Dwarven, or Goblin.

Something with some... sparkle... off to the RNG!

Angennukad, "The Fair victim".

Ngôtun Atêk, "The Cult of Boring".

Moshnúnûd, "The suicidal Harvester".

Asàsrimís, "The Rapid Lesions".

Solamgorroth, "The National Disemboweler".

Libashlînem, "Axeface".

Othilottan, "Weakmind".

Or Goblin, if you prefer:

Osmsmanaspuz, "Buttockincests".

Ngorûgaspuz, "Manincest".

Dostngospûsp, "Cruelclobbers".

Dostngospxungô, "Cruelpuke".

My current fortress is called Bodicegrasped.

A civilization in a previous game was known as "The Mountainous Bodices".

Yeah.

My militia commander would randomly switch out her steel battle axe for a bronze, copper or iron one.

Assignment of Arsenal Dwarves doesn't always show up in the nobles screen.  Not at 20, not at 30, never, but only sometimes.  And thats assuming you have an expedition leader and the regular noble slots filled.

Also, even after assigning equipment with arsenal dwarf (which makes things 100x better), I've still had dwarves drop equipment, or spend 100% of their time running around picking up equipment and then dropping it in useless places when they get tired.  This is as of .3, haven't tried yet in .4

THIS!

I activated a squad in order to attack an incoming goblin raid. What do they do? They go and drop ALL THEIR EQUIPMENT in the stockpile and charge the goblins naked.

Dwarves also seem to randomly drop equipment or place it in bins for no apparent reason, this seems to happen more often when you have many different kinds of equipment. It's retarded.

And then there are the times where the Dwarf is checked as having certain equipment in the military screen while said dwarf does in fact NOT.

In my experience Body Parts requests have ALWAYS been satisfied by slaughtering an animal. Usually when they want shell, they ask for shell.

I've had a couple worlds where goblin civs were conquered in world gen, a lot more than I ever remember in 40d.

Knifestabbed (I love the RNG), 1st of Felsite, 1055.

There was an Elven Caravan today, normally the strange, knife eared folk are welcome to trade, but this time they brought stragglers.

A Goblin ambush party, 7 macemen led by the axeman Snamoz Seducedbitches.

They appear to the northwest, almost as if a mirage out of the desert sands. The blacksmith Mabzuth Copperwhisper is the one to spot them, while out gathering wood. Unfortunately, she is unable to escape, getting bashed in the guts, then the upper body, and finally in the head.

An alert is issued, the dwarves are all ordered inside. Our search for suitable ore to be used in making armour and weapons has proven fruitless, so our warriors are not equipped to handle this task. Once everyone is inside the gate is raised, and many animals are left outside to die. It is an unfortunate fate, but the gate could not be held down any longer. The search for ore continues below, while the laughs of the goblins "playing" with the animals, mixed with loud shrieks, reverberates through the entrance and into the fortress.

We cannot get out, and they cannot get in, for now. The militia are keen to engage them, underequipped as they are, believing their superior wrestling skills will see them through. I am not so confident.

This is the Sherriff and Expedition Leader of the Mountainous Bodices, Datan Onslaughtrooms, pray this is not the last letter to be delivered from our outpost.

Life Advice / Re: Lucid dreaming
« on: April 26, 2010, 10:55:17 pm »
Since it's somewhat topic-related, I'll post an epic dream I had last night, which was indeed lucid.

The dream starts with me at my cottage. (Wilderness of Northern Ontario, google it if you want to see what the terrain generally looks like)

There is going to be some sort of astronomical event, and my friends and family have gathered with me there. It is in winter, and the event is coming in a few hours. I'm not sure if it was meant to be some sort of 2012 doomsday thing, since I'm not really an avid believer of such things, even if my birthday is December 23rd. Anyway, we are eagerly awaiting the "thing" to appear in the sky, as it's supposed to. Some sort of "galactic alignment" that is supposed to occur.

Well, it occurs, and a lot of strange things start to happen, this kind of red, "eye" appears in the sky, the entire world starts to shake and shift, I literally felt like I was going to die, even though I knew it was a dream. We all went into the cottage to ride it out. We waited an undetermined amount of time (my memory of the dream is starting to fade, so I have likely forgotten a few details). When we finally re-emerged, the entire landscape had changed. Where once there were trees and low rolling hills, only mountains and barren snow fields remained. Where the mountains came from, well, I'll never know. We tried to figure out what the hell had happened, talking in the cottage, which seemed to be relatively untouched, if a bit damaged from the quakes.

There didn't seem to be anything else around though, all the neighbour's cottages, the lake, everything just "Gone". It was as if our cottage had been transported to another world with us in it. Eventually we decided to just "head out" anywhere, to try and make contact with other people, if there were any. We braved the freezing cold temperatures, carrying our supplies in a sled, and walked and walked and walked. I could feel the cold air on my face, the snow falling gently on my clothing, and later the bitter cold of the blowing wind. We walked for what seemed like days, each night passed with us setting up a small camp, with no fire as all the trees were just, well, gone. It was brutal. All the while in the sky was the red "eye" beaming down at us, the stars failing in its light, indeed, even the sun seemed to pale next to it. There was always this kind of otherworldly "glow" in the atmosphere, which I honestly cannot explain. It's not like the Northern Lights, but kind of like a wave that eminates from the "eye".

We crossed rolling hills of fields, finding ways through or around mountains, and our supplies were running low. There was not a sign of life anywhere. No humans, no animals, not even any plant matter. Our journey was hopeless, we were all going to either freeze to death or die of starvation. I was beginning to think this dream would not end well, and indeed there was not much else left to see, after all the changes wrought by this "event". This is where my memory becomes fuzzy, but I know I just decided to wake up not long after I came to that realization, and I don't think much else of importance happened then.

It's not the best dream I've had, but it's one that I'll likely remember for a long time, perhaps for the rest of my life. My fragmented memories and meager storytelling skills don't do the entire experience much justice. Indeed it had a kind of stark beauty to it that I just couldn't help but love, even though when I woke up I still had that feeling of despair in me.
