So does Deathgate II have any major goal besides "survive the voidspawn?" I mean we already colonized hell.

Ooh! Get voidspawn INTO Hell!

The only thing that saddens me is that the next DF version is too far off for us to have waited for it; the fact that Deathgate I effectively died a slow death by starvation deeply saddens me. We need the world to be filled with rampant boning in order to produce the expendable slave labor meat puppets we need.

Can we be dorfed without running a year?

If yes, I'll take the milita commander.

Name: Derm
Job Name: Military Overseer. Title: 'Fearbreak(er?)'
Profession: Axedwarf

Of course!  The more dorfs, the better.

Just remember, all dorfs are playing the Body Surf game.  We're basically ghosts that keep snatching bodies for fun and profit.

I'd like to be dorfed as Krosan, marksdwarf or axedwarf.

I'd also, if such is acceptable, like to request that the first baby born in Murdermachines be named Lashidang.

I'd also like to be added to the turn list!

You can also use ropes or chains. Chained wardogs or some other critter which can be chained but doesn't need pasture will work fine as first-line ambusher-detectors.

Wardogs work well because they tend to be plentiful and can usually hold their own against your average goblin thief.

Failing that, have the main courtyard to your gate be a massive bunny pasture!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Migrant waves of madness

I usually have a job title set up in Dwarf Therapist that corresponds to less-important work. Primarily jobs that I need done but which don't check skill level for anything but speed.

For example, 20 useless migrants? Butchers, tanners, what have you. Soapmakers! Wood burners and furnace operators. I'll even allow them to do masonry if I've taken time to set all my mason's workshops to have a minimum skill level.

I tend to have a good few dwarves idle, but it means that if something incidental comes up, I have a huge labor force to attend to it. Need wood *now?* You thirty guys, grab axes from the goblin loot stash and make some elves cry. Under attack? Well, I have enough crossbows; draft the lot of them and turn the main hall into a shooting gallery.

It means I have a nice group of dwarves to pull specialists from if I need them, and they make a nice emergency militia since none of them have really irreplaceable skills.

Boys, raise a glass to Deathgate. We did good.

We did good.

So that's how Deathgate ended, not with a bang, but with an angry eldritch abomination.

As it turns out, the save works if you turn off temperature. So you could have everyone drown in magma.

Confirmed, it looks like Terry came in the form of us completely destroying the game's temperature simulation...

Which is AWESOOOOOOME

308
The fact that Terry is liable to be the one to eat our fort now is perhaps the best possible ending we could have hoped for.

The moral of the story is, never turn off your ringer to sleep in.  Women will flip the fuck out.
Seriously, dafuq.

This is so absolutely true that any lingering unhappiness about the delays is completely banished.

310
The fact that a short while after instituting more severe "Slow turn" rules Anima comes up and himself gets bogged down with RL stuff... kind of an amusing coincidence.

That said, as fortress creator I suppose he can totally get away with whatever he wants, so carry on megabro! KILL 'EM ALL!

311
Bamp...

Any luck retrieving Deathgate's save?

312
We must slay the greatest evil the world has ever known.

SUICIDE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

313
He's flushing into a non-evil section of map, so any zombie pieces that get flushed should be easily dealt with and stay dead until they can get atomsmashed or thrown back over the wall.

314
Yeah, so it sounds like the question was a bit premature because he still hadn't really gotten to the whole "figure out how to survive on an evil biome" thing... My bad.

315
It was more a question of what could go wrong, than a blanket statement of "this is a good plan! what could possibly go wrong?"

It's a Terrifying map. EVERYTHING will go wrong.
