Oh, somebody just d/l the save and go.  It’s not that big a deal, just expand the virtual memory of whichever partition holds the game.  The last save plays at 27 on my laptop which is eight years old so it will play on anyone’s machine.  There are only 20 dwarves and 90 animals, half as many undead as in my turn.  I took over ☼Hearts of Banner☼ when it was abandoned as unplayable, brought the FPS from 14 to over 50 by futzing with the stockpiles and such.  Same here.

I would recommend forbidding that skull juice and nether wine in the stocks screen.  The surface water is frozen, seems nobody has installed a pump over the cistern, yet.
Btw, Grimmash: seriously good work on that grinder thing.

Why not just do what I did, upload what you have at the end of your turn?  This fortress has progressed only 2 1/2 years in the past 2 RL months.

Masterwork DF / Re: [DWARF] - Discussion & Suggestions - NEW POLL!
« on: March 25, 2014, 06:23:38 am »
Since this is for suggestions and is now five pages down (prior to this post),
Should there be a new thread as a Wish List for 4j?  Maybe a few polls?

People who study such things say there are (in the US) about a hundred thousand serious gamers and perhaps ten thousand with an asocial addiction (ever seen an episode of The Guild?  It’s funny/disturbing, available on Netflix).

Except, those plants WILL grow on soil in mountain biomes, both surface and subterranean (they have to or else there would be nothing growing in the caverns; are glaciers the same way?).  I've embarked Masterwork mountains before and ran irrigation ditches without problem, just not recently.  But then again, I hadn't tried recently until recently in a mountain embark requiring irrigation.  Perhaps there had been a tile of clay or soil in those previous mountains that I simply wasn't aware of.

Has anyone been able to farm on irrigated stone, the "dusting of mud" that is left behind?  I've tried a half-dozen mountain embarks that only allowed kobold bulbs and nothing else.  This never happened before 4i although I may not have tried since 3x.

Since Meph hasn't logged on for a week, my suggestion is that someone just go for it and leave a note here that the save has been d/l'd and play resumed.

Yeah, it’s an odd thing: the mined area contains both fireclay and dolomite.  The fireclay is as always for all plants.  To double-check, I mined a second area of dolomite, irrigated it and channeled over part (dusting of mud on all tiles).  This area is immediately adjacent to the fireclay tiles.
Fireclay: will grow anything.
Irrigated dolomite Inside/Dark: will grow any subterranean plants.
Irrigated dolomite Inside/Light: still limited to kobold bulbs, same as the surface.

I’ve never seen this before, just curious if anyone else has.  My dwarves are walking a long way to reach the fireclay fields and boozeberries and that’s not good for FPS.

Kobold bulb only surface farms – has this happened to anyone else?

Temperate mountain biome, all seeds offered at embark and Prospect identifies them growing in the region.  The surface farm only allowed kobold bulbs, green grass growing over dolomite.  Irrigating the area left a covering of mud but still, only kobold bulbs allowed and I’ve never seen that before.  There is an area of subterranean fireclay that – when channeled – can grow anything.  The dense, green grass over the surface dolomite is changing over the years to yellow, sandy-clay but still, only kobold bulbs allowed.  Irrigating the new sandy clay covers it in a layer of mud but makes no difference to planting.  I’ve had many embarks in mountain regions, first time I’ve seen this.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Any ideas?

What's the error message?
4i was giving me an AppHangB1 even with clean install after playing several games, turned out to be an unresolved conflict with an anti-virus program update.  It was necessary to restore Windows to a previous setpoint.  And turn off Rendermax to start; you can always turn it back on for screenshots.  If you list the error message, somebody might be able to help.

Is there any cure for rabies in game?

Nope.  That's one reason most players turn diseases off.  Maybe Meph will upgrade the system in some future release; he's always said he had more plans for the Apothecary.

OOC:  Honestly, I don't understand what happened ... it was probably lack of sleep and drugs.  I'll try to finish this ... tomorrow ...

Boy, if I had a nickel --     :)

I am not able to get the Dwarf Therapist utility to "connect to DF". (Understand that Therapist is modded for Masterwork, hence posting here).
Any suggestions? Does therapist need to be in a particular directory.
Sorry if this is too simple a query.

Asked many times, answered many times, something like this will get you a snarky response once Bay12 forums have a search engine worth spit -- but in the meantime, just open the .exe file as admin.  (And yeah, happens to me, too, and I had to ask ...)

There's no need to adjust the population cap until after the first couple of migrant waves (children don't count).  Fortress wealth is the primary for sieges.  Upping the invader skill level at world gen can bring some serious nasties the very first week after embark.

But, I thought the whole point of a community game was to put one’s fumbledefforts out there in real time for comments and suggestions, along with pretty screenshots.  Not?
