Where are the Russians? And the cyborgs? Just you wait, once my friend gets online who has the message log, we have the Ultimate Thing (tm).

Assuming he still has the message log. I think there's been some computer changing.

Blargh, thank you. You just reminded me of a vital fact which will help in my convincing of another forum's populace that pirates are, indeed, better than ninjas. Of course I made up my mind the instant I learned the chick I was talking to at a party a few weeks ago was, in fact, the closest thing to a pirate most people will ever meet.

Note 1: Napoleon wasn't French. Also, you seen to have forgotten Joan d'Arc.

Note 2: The ninja/pirate discussion has been done a few hundred times, but I really don't think that vikings come even close to either.

Note 3: I <3 U JT. The Lost Vikings was awesome. And they're in WoW too  :D

Frenchmen, like ninjas, can be badass if they are individual (i.e. not in an army) and are not speaking English (i.e. are speaking French). If you don't believe me watch the newest Die Hard movie. There's two French ninjas who, although they do IIRC eat it in the end (like all villains) are pretty badass right up until then.

As for carp vs elephant... the only animal that's killed my dwarves has been giant leopards.

DF General Discussion / Re: Bats?!

I had bats once. I'm still digging. And I've yet to find anything interesting under the sands, save a lot of iron ore, and a shitton of pale, almost-worthless stones. Ah well. They pay well back home for instruments, even if it's made of rock. Now if only I could get some mail-order trees...

As slow as a zombie is, at least you can take the limbs off of skeletons. They may not be threats but they're damned annoying.

Well shit -- who would? I mean, aside from us sadistic expedition leaders.

DF General Discussion / Re: I just captured a live dragon: how do I tame?

You said this dragon has no wings? Put it in a pit. Use that as your combination anti-invasion/anti-immigrant device. If you wanted to be really dramatic you could put it in the room NEXT to the pit, with a floodgate attached that you can open with a lever from above.

That's what I thought, but I've never been able to get an option to grow them (quarry bushes) either. I have the nuts, but not the option. Do they have to be grown on muddied stone, or can you grow them on sand/loam/etc?

Also -- deserts somehow tend to have a lot of fast growing pickable plants up on the surface. Pretty handy for early-game survival. Not that it takes long to set up farms when you have sand to work with... a pick will go through sand damn fast.

I'd put that cage up in the middle of my meeting area. Or better, just outside the entrance to the fortress. Then, when the goblin army shows up, the first thing they'll see is the dragon you captured. That might make them think twice...
