I went through two vaults, and found two things:

1. Only one had an accessible slab
2. Both had assistants and a beast each, but neither had soldiers

I'm quite certain there can be instances of inaccessible slabs, but is there any reason why neither of my vaults had soldiers in them?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Claiming and Keeping a Site

Outsiders can make claims to sites. However, they can't make claims in civilized sites, at least not at first. They'd need to become lords of more wild locations, such as bandit camps, caves, and lairs, before they're capable of making claims in more populated areas.

when choking an enemy do they start to lose air as soon as the choke hold is put on them and strangulation just speeds it up or do you have to perform the strangulation to achieve anything

From what I've seen, choking does remove air, but it takes a really long time before getting any significant results(like, many dozen turns). Accidentally killed someone this way.

NOOOOOO!

Well, it's very easy to mod back in anyway.

Higher weapon/fighter skill will give you a higher success rate, but that won't be reflected in the advanced combat menu.

It seems raised megabeasts, semimegabeasts, and titans/forgotten beasts are hostile to everything, including their "masters" and other undead.

Moreover, zombie humanoids don't seem to attack their own (still living) civilization members, at least not all the time.

Very yes. Dark Pits and Fortresses are already hard enough to traverse.

Burrows won't keep him from feeding on dwarves when he's thirsty enough. You'll need a physical barrier to keep him away from the rest of the population.

Really, really hate web-shooting Titans now. Had to save-scum against the same one three times in a row before relenting and getting back-up and a bow to fight it. But not before it died from a mysterious magma burst. Reloaded several times until that didn't happen and then... cheap first-hit headshot kill against it. Also reloaded several more times so that wouldn't happen, and gave up after about the third time when I kept getting similar results anyway.

With Othom, the same adventurer, I managed to make ladies out of three Cyclops sisters that lived in the same lair. One had control of the lair itself, while the others took control of a Dark Fortress and a town, respectively. The latter two even moved into their new homes, though I could only find Utthok, the Cyclops that went into the town (Dark Fortresses, especially abandoned ones, are not a fun place to play hide-n-seek in).

By the time Othom went back to that town, Utthok had somehow already replaced by some scrubby-ass dwarf lord. I checked legends mode to see what happened to her, and strangely enough, she was still in town. In fact, once back in adventurer mode, I found her chilling in one of the many taverns in the area. The citizenry were generally tolerant of Utthok and vice-versa, though nearby drunks were understandably privy to run away at the sight of her. Apparently, she was still as naked as when I first found her.

When Othom was nearby, she would occaisonally greet him, but didn't respond kindly to his own greetings. She somehow retained the privilege of granting hearthperson-ship, but she refused to do so, and likewise would not become a hearthperson nor adventure with Othom. She was likewise unappreciative when Othom reclaimed the town and granted her ladyship once more, further refusing any of his requests to become a hearthpoerson.

After a short stroll through town, rumors of her death at the hands of some random goblin peasants quickly spread. But I managed to save-scum out of that result; there's still more to be learned here.

EDIT: I also tried granting ladyship to a nearby giantess, but she refused any attempts. I wonder what's the trick to get that to work?

@Detonate
Which reminds me...

As I was looking through Legends Mode, I noticed that Zombies can make the conscious decision to turn to banditry. Guess they resort to that after turning their former masters into ground meat.

Just figured out that jump-tackles are always successful on airborne opponents (that is, one that's been thrown, tackled, or falling). Doing this repeatedly allows one to get an extensive tackle combo on a single opponent, giving them little to no chance to retaliate if you're lucky. I managed to kill at least 3 night trolls and 7 bogeymen this way. Now I'd just like to know if this could work on Bronze Colossi and other gigantic monsters.

Heh. Reminds me of those crazy-long combos from fighting games like MvC2 and GGXX2.

Check for a book with the following in their titles. These would have a good (but guaranteed) chance in containing a secret:

That last one would require a retired fortress though.

Ideally, a shelter made out of Bogeyman leather.
