Exactly what it says on the tin.

Do physical traits and attributes pass from dwarf-dad and dwarf-mom down to dwarf-child?  Or are new attributes and traits rolled at random?

Hey Meph, I meant to ask you beforehand, but is it cool if I set my story in your mod?

A young girl stands in her room.  Today is the 1st of Granite, her birthday!
She has just turned 12 years old and is now officially considered an adult citizen of the Dwarven Mountainhomes.

What was her name, again?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ravines in World Gen
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:42:21 pm »
Let's say I want generate a world where ravines are more common (that is, rivers with shear walls on either side).

What settings would I have to manipulate for that to happen?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarven Language
« on: February 12, 2014, 01:28:43 pm »
Does anyone know what the dwavern language is based off of?  Did Toady use a source or did he completely fabricate the entire language?

My male dwarves are the only ones who have beards.  I'm curious as to how other people handle it.

Masterwork DF / Quick Farming Math
« on: January 27, 2014, 06:13:19 pm »
  • 1 unit of food produces 5 units of drink.
  • A dwarf eats an average of 8 food and 16 drinks per year.
  • That means that a dwarf consumes 11.2 units of food per year.
  • In Masterwork, underground plants take 1 year to mature.
  • A legendary grower produces 5 units of food per tile of farm (unfertilized).

Therefor, it takes 2.24 tiles of farm to support a single dwarf (minimum).

Am I missing something? I've 160 tiles of farm, legendary farmers, and 53 dwarves.  By my math, I should be able to support ~71 dwarves, but I'm continually running out of food.

Additionally, does anyone know the exact amount potash affects farming? The wiki doesn't know.

Masterwork DF / Which Tileset Do You Use?

I was just curious to see what the most popular tileset is.  Which one do you use, and what attracts you to it?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How to keep animals from dying upon abandonment
« on: September 25, 2013, 08:45:36 pm »
Suppose I wanted to make a fort with a massive vault of gold, and chain a dragon right outside the door to protect it from intruding adventurers.

Is there any way to keep animals from dying upon abandonment?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How do I stop this tantrum spiral?
« on: September 25, 2013, 04:08:43 pm »
So, yeah, my dwarves got pissy about something and next thing I know, they start going crazy.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've tried killing the ones who go crazy in an attempt to quarantine the insanity, but it just made things worse!  My military of 20 is down to 2, and one is in the hospital with a broken leg.  My doctor can't fix him because he's dead, and I can't appoint a new noble because my mayor died in office and a bug prevents the election of new nobles while a previous mayor is still alive (I don't know which one used to be mayor).

I'm running out of coffins, and I can't harvest any new crops because my farmers are running around babbling.  My metalsmith punched my fisherdwarf into the well (ironically) so there's no water to be had, and my hammerer went insane and clubbed all my brewers to death before the Guard could stab him down.

So...yeah, how do I save my fort?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Throw away your XX-pig tail sock-XX!
« on: September 18, 2013, 06:32:18 pm »
From what I understand, Dwarves are supposed to toss their ragged clothes on the refuse pile when they get too worn out.

I just checked one of my Dwarfs cabinets, and he has it packed with XX[useless crap]XX.

How do I make him throw away his ragged clothes?  There are plenty of perfectly fine socks in the stockpiles.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Why do burrows suck so badly?
« on: September 14, 2013, 04:44:43 am »
Dwarves take FOREVER to obey a burrow order, and more than once I've found dwarves who have entered their burrow, but then later just fucking ignored the order and started walking about.  Am I missing something?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A Barrel of Liquid[10]

Exactly what the title says.  Some merchants came by and tried to sell me a barrel containing, and I quote, "Liquid [10]."

What?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Deconstruction help
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:03:01 pm »
So I accidentally built a statue in an inaccessible location.

Code: [Select]
+++++#+++
+++++#+++
+++++####
#####S++#
++++#+++#
++++#####

I want to remove it.

I could dig through the walls to get obviously, but I don't want to do that.  Is there anyway to remove the statue without carving up my fortress walls? I prefer natural stone, and don't want to ruin it if I don't have to.
