Yes, that is correct.

Apologies LW for being a bit short.

It was intended as a good natured dig,  Also it was meant as a humourous comment in the context of the wider thread, since a large part of what the internet has historically encouraged is 'hookers and blackjack'.  These could be seen as serving the interests of the state as much or more than twitter censorship (though the swamp in banality factor of twitter, etc. should not be underestimated).

Shit, explaining my own poor attempts at jokes on the internet, have I really come to this...  :'(

Wow that was a big leap!

I wasn't accusing wikileaks of anything...

General Discussion / Re: Intersectional Idpol General
« on: July 24, 2016, 04:08:06 am »
What I find interesting is the way the 'intersection' is staged as a confrontation - Us vs. Them - both between identity politics and liberation ideologies, and within each respective discourse/movement.

Identity politics is good in outlining some of the specific processes and mechanisms for socialising (aka brainwashing) various people into prejudice against or compromised behaviour towards others.

Liberation writings are good in envisaging how the world could be a different and better place.

I guess that's my ability, what's your need?  :P

In short: My own twitter, with blackjack and hookers

Sounds like "state interests, social engineering or feudal information control" to me.

I'm rather shocked the greens and other independants didn't get more seats, I thought more people see dismayed at the ineptitude of the libels and the belaborers.
That Medicare bullshit will bite labour in the ass come the next election.

"Nearly a quarter of Australians have given their first preference to parties other than Labor and the Coalition, a trend that has been in the making since the 2007 election and was hinted at during the 1998 election."
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-07-03/election-results-historical-comparison/7560888

The way the electoral system is rigged we will not see 1 in 4 lower house seats going to candidates outside of the red and blue teams.

Whilst the medicare issue was classic mudslinging it bit because although not as extreme as the puppet MT has already instigated big cuts (or axed already slated increases) to health.  For example coag funding to the tune of about 5 billion dollars (over the next three years).  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-08/has-the-federal-government-cut-health-funding/7284138  And he would have cut more except for the outcries from the australian public.  Oh yeah, and then there was the influence of trying to look good for the election campaign.

Political advertising is specifically exempted from the 'truth in advertising' legislation.  Just another media stunt.

Starver was not happy about some previous posts and in a better move (imo, of course) than ignoring or reporting has attempted to discuss the matter.  Lord Whiskers has (rightly, again in my opinion) held their ground.  Various others have contributed more or less spiteful, thoughtful or humourous comments.  But feel free to spin it another way... since nobody really knows what a conversation is.  :)

Part of the problematic is that the discussion is about language use - free speech, toxic discourse, memes and political correctness all being involved.

It is good that your lack of omnisicience is admitted and even better that you are enjoying yourself!

Apologies for my low brow approach.  Here's something to throw into the alphabet soup:

I'm not sure the pathing issues are bugs per se, but I too am of the opinion that this is what most needs to be fixed in the game. Easily said but probably a royal pain to implement.

I'm considering moving the current version to a 'QT4' branch, stopping support for it, and cleaning up the current branch to remove all the ugly checks for QT4. However, I don't know how many people would be affected by this (ie. how many linux distros do not have QT5?).

Can't imagine there will be any problems - maybe one or two edge cases but 3+ years means a distro would be pretty much unsupported by now.  And users can always build Qt5 themselves if affected.  (Note: lower level user shooting from the hip.)

General Discussion / Re: Minimal wage - should it exist?
« on: June 24, 2016, 09:54:48 pm »
I am going to keep coming up with bad ideas until people fill in what we should have INSTEAD of minimum wage as a sort of stop gap against worker exploitation for low income individuals.

I think you already have an answer.  Perhaps it is worth thinking through the implications.

snip replace minimum wage with unconditional basic income snip

One notable outcome is that the Great Toad would have some competition, and no doubt there would be a veritiable flourishing of independent projects not bound by corporate agendas - music, art, perhaps even low budget science or works of philosophy.  Then more people wouild lose their jobs and get on the bandwagon.

There would still be work but it would be a proper market with supply and demand rather than the current system of being forced to sell at whatever the law mandates (aka slave labour).  The disappearance of work which has been underway historically now for several centuries would take on a new and unreservedly positive meaning.

Okay, I'm sure there will be lots of differing opinions but it is a real answer and a real alternative candidate (unless you are thinking only of a two-horse trumped up poltical debate).

Enrichment often stands for a Cultural Empoorment.

How quickly it is forgotten that language is a living play; I would reserve Nazi for a very precise and emphasised subset of nazi, just like there is a (even more) marked difference between liberal and Liberal (read big L liberal) at least in my part of the world.  But this is language in its primary state outside of the Dictates of the Classroom, riddled with life, regional and cultural variations, consuming and giving birth, mocking the realms of known certainty.

tldr get over it mate   ;)

Life Advice / Re: Help with trying to stop cheating.

There's probably a dopamine hit involved in it somewhere, but there always is :/

Yes.  THe simplest explanation runs something like engaging in behaviour which could be punished increases anxiety leading to a release of andrenalin and subsequently endorphins.  After this behaviour has happened once or twice a positive feedback loop ensues, the adrenalin increases acuity whilst the endorphins increase pleasure.  Assuming this then the above suggestions are good ways of blocking the loop.  AN alternative would be to engage in an activity which places you in a heightened state before sitting down at the computer, like going for a run or cycling, for example.  BUt it is worth considering other possible causes of the behaviour since if they exist stopping this behaviour will cause the emergence of some other release mechanism.

Perhaps another case could be to learn to be happy with who or what you are, if for example school is not a good learning environment for you but internet surfing is, but be aware of the consequences of not having that bit of paper which purports to dcument your abilities.

I might've written it wrong. Instead if doing the work im supposed to, I do other stuff. And it's silly little things. Stuff that could've waited a bit. But for some reason I can't resist it. And recently, I was in a situation where I could've used my phone, but no, stupid me had to interrupt my schoolwork on the computer, even though I could've used my phone and be ok. It's like an urge you can't resist at the time, yet later you kick yourself for doing it.
My emphasis.

It is clear what you are doing but the question is why.  That irresistible desire comes from somewhere/something.  Some quick possible candidates: schoolwork sucks/internet is cool; f*** you parent(s); or, I get lots of attention when I'm in trouble.  Or it could be something more event based, like that one time you got a good grade last year was the time you f'ed around and rushed something out at the last minute but the more effort you put in at other times the worse your grade got. It is even possible it stems from a seemingly disconnected traumatic event.  Or it might be that the only situation you currently feel unstressed/happy with is stuffing around on the computer.  I honestly don't know what it will be, and it is quite possible that you are not conscious of it either.  Take some time and observe yourself as a scienfific experiment, see if it can be puzzled out.  (When did it start, when does it happen most/when are the odd times you can resist...? etc.) Then deal with the cause of the beviour rather than sticking a bandaid on top of the symptom.

My advice would be to try and figure out why you are persistently doing this since this informs how to deal with the behaviour.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: DF2014 Question and Answer Thread
« on: June 14, 2016, 07:12:47 pm »
The system I usually use is to fill a cistern through a grate (from below) using water pressure and then draw water from the cistern with a well.

I usually prefer to source my well water from a river, brook or aquifer tile, and let it fall down into a cistern.  But if I can't do that, and instead have to source water from a cavern, I prefer to pump some water from the cavern lake into an isolated cistern, with the well over that.  If I'm careful about it, I can arrange for the pump operator to be protected while pumping (remember, pumps can suck through a floor grate even though wells can't drop a bucket through one).  There is definitely a period of exposure while initially setting up the pump, though.

That is a nice method for cavern water.  Even though I do something similar for magma I had never thought to use it for water!
