Pretty sure philosophical zombies take free will and determinism to be something other than merely the statement of the problems and conflicts inherent in a number of common ideological schemata.

More likely something prosaic such as forseeing the confusion caused when half the world starts calling the nu variant the new variant.

Moderna are already testing several booster vaccines against the Omicron variant and developing another desigend hopefully to specifically target it.  Pfizer for their part have said that if a variant proves resistant to their current vaccine that they will only need about 100 days to develop a tailor-made version that targets that variant.

https://www.foxla.com/news/moderna-testing-3-covid-19-booster-vaccines-on-omicron-variant-pfizer-ready-to-adapt

Not so much shilling for them as commenting that vaccine development is ongoing.  And yes, regulator approval will be necessary for new drugs at the national level, as per usual.

Any member of the squad can become the administrator.  Don't know if it is truly random or some sort of weighted roll which accounts for skills.  Sending a messenger should be able to request all dwarfs back except the administrator.  It is also possible that after some time the administrator can change and that last dwarf can be recalled.

Not sure what might be going on with holdings in 47.05.

Out of Africa, here we go again with world domination... well maybe...

A new variant has been detected in Southern Africa (Botswana probably, although other sources say South Africa) that looks very threatening as it contains a huge number of mutations with a majority being on the spike protein.

Worth reading both to pair the conservatism (here,  ;D) of the guardian with the sensationalism of deutsche welle.
(The bbc coverage is somewhat in between: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59418127).

(Vaccines haven't been tweaked for this one yet.)

It seems that the requirements have changed with different versions.  From the following I would expect the fortress to need to be a duchy... and maybe some other things besides.

https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Monarch
Quote
Requirements for a monarch's arrival can be checked by pressing [n] [c] after a fortress has reached a certain wealth. A fortress may not need to be a metropolis in order for this to happen. [...]
With the presence of the monarch, a fortress becomes the capital of its civilization.

...digging a little deeper:

https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014_Talk:Monarch
Quote
I only have a Fortress Rank of City, and yet I am able to see the "Becoming the Capital" tab and check it, and presumably summon the king. Are we absolutely sure the fortress needs to be a Metropolis? I can provide screenshots if requested.

-Sidhwen- I am confirming, I also saw the "Becoming the capital" screen as rank of city, when I fulfilled it, I received the monarch.

[... also...]

The wiki reads "Requirements for a monarch's arrival can be checked by pressing [n] [c] after a fortress has reached a certain wealth." It seems that in v0.47.05 the fortress needs be a duchy for the screen to be available.

I'm pretty sure the 'fortress' page is out of date for some time - if that's where others are sourcing their information from.

A bit late to the party but I just wanted to add that (for linux at least) the installation wikipage truly deserves its =exceptional= rating.  Generally it should be the first point of call when df installation issues arise with linux.

On the last little bit, under debian based 64-bit installs

Glad that it all got sorted.  :)

Nope (unless you count toys and instruments   :P).  The point being that the artifact list on the wiki does not provide information about raw-definable possibilities which was the additional and conclusive thing fleeting frames had to say.

The tileset and colours are independent from the save.   The population cap is stored in d_init.txt and is also separate from the save.  Not entirely sure about the symbol but I would assume it is linked to the tileset - at least with the same tileset other players should see the same symbol.

In short, other players would need to installl/use the same tileset + colours and adjust the population cap at their end.

177
A destroying success, maybe?

I'd be fine with that - destroying used as an adjective, and the english languages as mongrels all the way down.

Grammar Fight!

Only if one wants to ignore actual history.  Seems to be all the rage recently!

So if we said the Smashing Pumpkins are a smashing success we would mean they are destroying success?  I think not...  On its own the use of the term in the name is ambiguous, hence None's question.

Edit: Usually in cases of band/brand names the intentions of the authors of said name are taken into account or even given priority.  Tracking down the previously cited comment to the Washington Post the bassist, D'Arcy had this to say:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1993/11/19/from-fighting-to-smashing/33ebd7b4-5944-469d-a3ae-fe967f5634f8/
Quote
"The name of the band is a stupid name, a dumb bad joke and a bad idea, OK?" she says. "Billy named the band before there even was a band. He was like, 'I'm gonna have a band and it's gonna be called this.' 'Smashing' is not a verb, it's an adjective. It's not like we like to smash pumpkins or anything. And we are not amused by pumpkin jokes anymore."

179
It's claimed here to be an adjective.  But it's the internet and band(member)s mythologise all the time, so who really knows?

180
It's good news.  But, yeah, reservations on the availability/pricing stuff.

Only firm price I found quoted was $700 (and only by one questionable source) but I wonder/suspect that they had crossed their wires with Molnupiravir.  I did stumble across Pfizer's 'commitment to equitable access' along the way:

https://investors.pfizer.com/investor-news/press-release-details/2021/Pfizers-Novel-COVID-19-Oral-Antiviral-Treatment-Candidate-Reduced-Risk-of-Hospitalization-or-Death-by-89-in-Interim-Analysis-of-Phase-23-EPIC-HR-Study/default.aspx
Quote
Pfizer will offer our investigational oral antiviral therapy through a tiered pricing approach based on the income level of each country to promote equity of access across the globe.
which stayed my snarky comment about 'Africa when?'

At the same place Pfizer claim to be committing about one billion dollars for 'manufacturing and distribution' although as to what that actually means in terms of number of doses/treatments we will have to wait and see.
