DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Famous dwarven last words

Famous last conversation:

- The hordes are coming!
- Close the gate!
- There is a caravan and half of our unarmed military outside!
- Open the gate!
- The goblins are right after them!
- Close the gate!
- Urist McLegendary, our baron and Urist McPlayer'sFavoriteDwarf are amongst them!
- Open the gate a little!
- THEY HAVE ARCHE-

-Does armor or clothing protect against fall damage? If so, how much?
-What if they subject is carrying something heavy, does that make them hit the ground harder and die more?
-if there's water on the ground, does it reduce damage? Does more water reduce damage more?
Armor does protect a little. Sometimes I see reports of dwarves reflecting the blows of the gobblins... And then suddenly reflecting the fall damage.

Carrying heavy objects makes fall a lot deadlier - because that object will propably fall on test subject's head. However, if it is in his inventory, I don't THINK his mass will change

Water, surprisingly for the uber-realistic DF does slow them down a little. But only a little. It was confirmed in another thread, I don't remember.

A REAL MAN(YEEEAAAAAAAH) learns it by trial and error! In case of Dwarf Fortress, mostly error, but hey. Look, for example, at me. All I used was wiki from time to time to check why all options in smelter are red and stuff.
While DF's learning qurve is quite legendary, I would dare say that it IS little more than a legend. If you don't really care about your dwarves dying horrifcally you can learn all the basics in 3-5 fortresses.

We have been studying the effects of dwarvern rail guns, burning zombies and evil fog on chained prisoners; results were a little too promising with the last one when we had to abandon our test site due to several large groups of thralls and the loss of a significant portion of our booze stockpile (and dwarves) when a burning zombie managed to ignite a thirsty technician (spear dwarf) who was cleaning up after an experiment.
Secure. Contain. Weaponize.

Dwarves think?
However, their beards and cats (secondary brains... In case of cats, ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROLL) probably appreciate them. If it improves the surviving % of dwarves, new victims, yay!

Why necromancers either don't come, or come with 200 zombies, while other players get 30-70 waves most of the time? ;_;
And why do my dwarves cancel building the traps saying that job item was misplaced? I'm not sure how can you misplace a damn boulder. And a mechanism, when there are thousands of them at the stockpiles.

Considering the Artificial Stupidity of Dwarf Fortress, it is possible that the mountainhomes are worse. Yes, even worse than Boatmurdered with acid rains, necromancers, even more evil terrain and circus. All at once. Y'know how stupid and suicidal one Urist is. Imagine a whole mountainhome without a player trying to stop them... Ruled by one of them.
Urist as an overseer
URIST AS AN OVERSEER

Why the combat log of my mechanic is full of "the mechanic falls over/the mechanic stands up" while he has all his limbs intact, nothing is attacking him, he isn't jumping out of the way of a cat or anything...? Like a "kdjldskfjsdsfjkldjfljdskajlsdahsjkldhajwjdajs *rolls on the floor* I forgot how to dwarf"

"I want to live"

The mother thought that he is going to steal her alcohol.
HER ALCOHOL
So she threw the baby at him.
Ale has been saved.

How do cats know where are my most important stockpiles and WHY THEY COVER THEM IN A 2 METER THICK LAYER OF HAMSTER REMAINS so I can't store anything there and everyone is busy taking the hamster to the atom smasher?

Dear Ponies of Bucklace;

Stop....err..... actually, you're doing good. Keep up the good work, and you shall be rewarded with nicer houses and little things that make life better for you simple little guys.

IS THIS REALLY DWARF FORTRESS

Dear Urist McDumbmechanic

Waiting with conneting our gates to a lever for a year and then running away screaming when the zombies attacked was quite dwarfly. So dwarfly it was overly dwarfly. Therefore, I nominate you The Real Dwarf. With that position comes an axe and a boot outta the fortress. Have luck fending them off while other mechanics try to fix your shiet.

Your family and pets have been already assigned to Strike Force Z. You will see them soon.

116
Why do dwarves prefer fighting with their fists and feet instead of the adamantine weapon they are holding?
It's all the densinity and weight that matters when it comes to fighting. At least that's what one dwarf heard from his overseer. And this rumor has spreaded far. Far.
Fists are heavier than cotton. Thus they are better. Dwarf logic.

Why do my dwarves get unhappy thoughts from a bit of mud in their water... And don't give an elf for all the decaying bodies in the well? And vermin remains? And blood?

117
Argh. Just argh. I'm never joining any succesion game. This is third one where my savefile gets destroyed by unknown forces just in the end.
Whatever, skip my turn... Sorry...

118
Didn't manage to do it in time, sorry. So... I will upload the save as soon as I find out how to retire my fort. Why retire? Because I hope one day I will be able to continue it. One day. Looking at the current list of players, that "one day" will be winter or later.

SAVE: *sooner*
EDIT: Save is being uploaded right nao. Have patience.

119
May I request additional time? DF runs very slowly for me, y'know, 700 MB ram...

120
Damn them boogeymen. I got ambushed by them, broken spine here, severed hand there, then... Over-exertion kicks in. Why, toady, why, I almost slaughtered them all...

So I guess I will build a fort, why not. How much time do I have left?
