The king has put out a bounty on a dragon's head. That might seem like an overreaction, but the dragon ate, like, five of the king's sheep, and stole his favourite sceptre while he was out getting ice cream. That's pretty mean.
Originally, the king planned to hire two heroes:
- A knight, to go forth and slay the dragon
- A wizard, to cast a spell that would aid the knight
Unexpectedly, he received word from
many knights and
many wizards. Surprised, he took two days to decide what to do.
He settled on holding a
drawing. He will select
one knight and
one wizard at random. If they failed, well, the knight's
probably already dead, but the wizard would have to be
exiled.
The king also hired a bunch of spies to do spy stuff—using
the last of the kingdom's funds—and they brought back this
Dragon Report:

If you wish to be a wizard, post your name and the spell you will cast. The stronger a spell, the more likely it is to fail.
If you wish to be a knight, post the order of knights you belong to, your name, and your weapon of choice, which should be not out-of-place in a medieval setting.
