DF Suggestions / Re: DF 2010 for the Mac
« on: April 19, 2010, 07:05:28 am »
Brothers, let us band together for a group hug.  There, there, it's no shame for a man to cry.  Now on the count of three we all begin to wail and bemoan our fate...

DF Suggestions / DF 2010 for the Mac
« on: April 18, 2010, 11:07:27 pm »
Dumb question which I am sure has been addressed elsewhere, but is so buried in 60 page long threads that I can't find it:

When, or will, the new 2010 version be ready for the Macintosh?

I'm pretty excited, but heart is breaking at inability to play...

thanks!

DF General Discussion / Re: Building a Real Dwarf Fortress

THere is a pretty good book, something like "Building an Underground House for under $200".  Covers a lot of the basic and advanced house building techniques, none of them are actually dug tunnels though.  It's generally a trench or notch cut into a hillside, roofed over, then covered in extra dirt.

Maybe they wanted to bury it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Recovered from a spine injury!

Well, I'm on the team that believed that spine and nerve injuries were permanent in the old version.  Hadn't noticed this addressed in the forums for the new version, so I thought I'd mention it.  Apologies to those who think I have a red brain injury of my own.

I imagine this has been posted somewhere already, but it seems that even the irrecoverable injuries are now healable.  My legendary Unbelievably Tough miner recovered from a brown lower spine injury in less than a year.  Heck yeah!

A melancholic dwarf walked to the edge of the bottomless pit and threw himself in, falling two levels to a ledge below.

I've had the unhappy stop and go before, but this is a one way freeze.  A freeze of no return.  A 'lock up', perhaps.

I didn't realize that below a 'fine' would cause problems.  I have a wounded fellow at 'fine' at the moment, I'll have to see about perking him up or throwing him in the pit.

I take back my take-back.  After removing my crossbowdwarves from the military, I still get the freeze.  Conditions still the same as above.

Actually, I suspect it might have to do with this:  http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001874

I recently destroyed a craftdwarf workshop and I know there were bone bolts in it.  I imagine my crossbowdwarf is trying to get bone bolts to practice with.  I'm certain that this problem was crashing me earlier, when I tried to draft a bunch of new crossbow users.

DF Bug Reports / Unknown and consistent freeze
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:21:00 am »
So I am having a freeze happen between five and fifteen minutes of my last save.  It's mid-Autumn, I think, and a siege had recently been lifted.  Nothing wacky is happening that I know of, no invaders, no caravans, no water nonsense.  No one is tantruming.

It's not happening at a consistent point.  I have a well, but I've had it for several years and it's been in constant use.  Any suggestions?

I'm getting these freezes as well.  Frustrating as hell.  I'm not really noticing a pattern, aside from they happened during late summer of my second year.  Haven't been crashing yet.  This is my second fortress, the first didn't have this problem.

I was having a repeating crash while the human caravan and kobold thieves were on the map at the same time.  Don't know if they were seeing one another or not.
