that really makes me feel wanted thanks ;(

All that aside, the server is whitelisted.  Generally, random people with day-old accounts don't get on the whitelist.

You clearly didn't read and/or understand the information in the OP, and you don't seem interested in anything but accessing the server...  why should we accomodate you?

Has anyone done a Bad Moon run? I've started up on my alt, aiming for 100% Black cat.

I did a Black Cat run about as early as I possibly could, on the logic that it would be easier to get done before I got used to having things.  It was before I found mafia, and before a lot of the quest revamps happened... but it wasn't too bad, really.  I soft focused my eyes when combat finished so I wouldn't get angsty over the cat knocking items away, otherwise played as normal as you can in Bad Moon, finished DB(34/3735).  Having a better sense of the game now, I could probably do it again inside of 20 days.

Using mafia will probably help a bit, if only for simple combat automation....  you won't even see when the cat knocks things away!  ;)  The only superscript I know for 99% automated ascending (bumcheekascend.ash) does not have, and will never have, specific Bad Moon support; it may work okay for a lot of the run, but if it barfs, you're on your own.

Disappointed? Absolutely. Surprised? Not at all. There was always something fishy about how they'd talk about the game but never had anything to show. Can't really blame them though. Creating a workable, fun MMO out of what WoD is about is tough in and of itself.

I am also not surprised.  But these days, you could truncate that last sentence to:

Mumorpergers are a tough space to do business in now, even without accounting for WoW's 800 pound shadow cast over everything.

I can't even work out how they would keep the game from being All Griefing, All The Time between the vampires and werewolves, even without a day-night cycle.  If anyone could pull it off, I'd have bet upon CCP.

I guess it doesn't help that White Wolf didn't give them a stable foundation.  Each new major addition seemed to trump the last, as if to say "buy this book or your characters will no longer be the masters of the universe, and will suck forever!!!"  (at least with old WoD; dunno about reboot stuff)  I can remember a few friends with absurd anecdotes about WoD games, and it didn't seem like they were trying to break the game that hard...  just going by what was front-and-center in the books.

Maybe they at least developed some good code that can be used for other things?  Hopefully?

(werds...  ha!)

Yay, science!!!

As for the general topic of CBE, I'm hoping that this is more than Civ5:Sci-Fi Edition, like the screenshots suggest.  It will be difficult to tell until it ships; Civ5's interface is clean and functional, and I'm fond of hexes...  but the UI != the game.

On the topic of 1UPT (from page 1)...  In principle, I understand why it's used as a mechanic.  Grinding through Stacks of Doom(tm) wasn't any fun in Civ4.  In practical terms, I think it would work better if the maps had more hexes overall, and movement was scaled to match.  City cores would take up more than one hex, and actually capturing a city would be a little more involved than it is currently.  My ideas for that don't really work with the level of abstraction at which Civ games tend to stay, though; I'm wishing for something more like a zoomed in Panzer General or analogue.

Okay thanks,it's just the job system seems like a nice feature,I wondered if any other games used it.

Outside of the digital realm, Dungeons and Dragons 3.x Ed. has a handful of basic classes (de facto jobs), and lots of prestige classes with widely varying prerequisites.

I forgot that most dorfs here tend to have a very different taste in music than me. Is there anyone else here who really dislikes heavy metal and hard rock music and prefers electronic?

I'm very partial to electronic music, but I spent a lot of my youth steeped in rock and metal.  I'll still listen to familiar tunes on occasion, but I don't really seek out new stuff.  (but I will give new stuff an honest listen when it finds me)

It may be the weekend before I get a chance to play this... vexing homework.  :P

because there's a leaderboard function and most of the songs I'm playing have no scores set except for my own. Would be nice to share some song files and compete against each other, or at least share what songs are most fun to play.
...

Things like Soundcloud and Jamendo could be quite useful for making sure everyone can compete without hassle, using free-and-legal songs.  That is also an added bonus for potential dorf tourneys, as the files will be bit-for-bit identical.  The devs have previously said that variations in the levels are possible (but probably minor) between different encoding details for the same song.

I have been sorely tempted by this game since its release...  I have an absurd amount of music, and a video game that leverages it is like pure heroin injected directly into my brain.

I wonder how Glitch Mob will play.  Also Astral Projection, 1200 Micrograms, Juno Reactor, Celldweller, Lords of Acid, KMFDM.  And Stratovarius, Nightwish, Danzig, Lacuna Coil, Rammstein, Type O Negative.  Oh, and VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Way Out West.

Hnnnggggg.

Okay, enough of that.  I don't need to give myself a brain clot and die before I get to play it.

Only a dollar...  for a limited time...  The temptation, it is too great!  *unzips wallet*

If this affects my grades, I'm blaming you, Sappho.  ^________^

I, for one, welcome our new obelisk-headed land squid overlords!  ^__________^

I hope the AI is as good as RPS seems to think.  I am fearful of what that means for the hardware requirements, though.

The game is already turning into LoL insofar as there are "orthodox" ways to play

NOTHING kills a card game faster IMO then this. It is why I cannot play Yu-Gi-Oh anymore.

This happened with the early years of Magic, also.  Nowadays, what is considered orthodox in Magic just rotates on a regular basis, and is considered a feature.

They nerfed the fuck out out of Spectral Throw and the Scion tree :(

Of course they did.  The Scion was given favorable balance as a draw when she was added @ Official Release... now that the newness has worn off, the nerf bat comes out.

I can speak as a 4-year corp CEO that even when your members are focused, it's damn hard to keep a corp together. And even in the bay12 channel, there are a ton of different players with different play styles, some that I can't even possibly comprehend.

Yup, it is for situations like these the term "herding cats" was invented...

More to the point, it's the by-product of any volunteer structure.  Yes, I know, some corps screen applicants... but once they are in, the only thing keeping them there is the choice to stay.

It was enough not-fun for me that I burned myself off the game.  Autosold and deleted everything.
(words)

Perhaps you missed this part.  Soapboxing about how to fix desync at someone that has already moved on is myopic at best.

I do not suffer games that punish me for bad IO code that I did not write... Life is too short, and there are too many other ways to spend my time.

I can acknowledge that the nature of the server/client relationship is gonna have some desync.  What chaps my ass is how the server handles it.  Going from "cautious steps, looking for things to plink" to "lol, you were really facegrinding that blue mob, for like 10 seconds!  oh, btw, you're dead"...  Several shades of not-fun.  The game can be difficult and challenging without the surprise corpse mechanic.  If I die because I got cocky, or misread a mob, sure, fine.  Dead.  If I die because of server shenanigans I cannot control, nor detect in time to not-die?  That's bullshit.

It was enough not-fun for me that I burned myself off the game.  Autosold and deleted everything.  (sorry, fellow dorfs... no wealth redistribution this time)

It's still looking good, but I'm a bit worried about whether there is anything interesting to do if you get through the initial surviving.

I'm sure you could engineer a catsplosion, for old time's sake.  ;)

It seems worth keeping an eye on, but I'm with greatorder; let it be weighed and measured first.
